The Mikes were unanimous with emphatic "No!" Golic added something stupid like, "This is why Jeter was smart to announce his retirement in the spring so the team didn't have to deal with such questions all summer." Huh? I don't want him to be benched because I want him to suffer the humiliation of an entire terrible season. Later
  2. So, now we look forward to seeing Bartolo pitching in Colorado. Later
  3. Referring to that other thread, did the Mets really fire their long-time PR Director? Was it because of this campaign (it was too late to pull the plug on it) or is this an example of their attempts at PR after he's gone? This wasn't shooting themselves in the foot. It was shooting themselves 2 feet higher. Later
  4. No special consideration being given. Thanks. Later
  5. Biblical remake. Or is it a re-write? Good cast. Good special effects. And no animals were harmed in the making of this film. How did you like it? Please note, the poll is in inverse order - bad to good. Later
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Under suspension you ARE allowed to participate in team activities so long as it's not a regularly scheduled game in some sort of league. IOW, nothing that goes on in front of paying customers. --- I'm sure that's not the official wording of the rule but that's more or less the gist of it. 'Extended Spring Training' is essentially a bunch of intra-team scrimmages. So, what if A-Rod practiced at an MFY extended Spring Training session. Isn't he under suspension? Or is there a difference among suspensions? Not trying to be argumentative. Just checking out the fine print. Later
  7. Waitaminit! Michael Pineda was injured while pitching in an extended spring training game in Florida???? Isn't he on suspension for that pine tar thingie? Is he allowed to participate in a team organized practice? Are any of the reporters who follow the team wondering about this? Later
  8. Nymr83 wrote: I have a dream... the Yankees missing the playoffs by 1 game, Derek Jeter striking out to end their season and his career. Then, Earth will be attacked by Aliens. One Hundred Years later, men will be huddled in their post-apocalyptic caves, teaching their children that the vision of Jeter making the last out of major league baseball has kept their hopes alive. They tell their children, "We must survive, because he made all mankind better." There. I fixed that for you. Later

  12. Let's hope Mejia can show his middle finger to the Marlins all game long. Later

  18. TransMonk wrote: Duda will make more than $1.6M this season. Overwhelm him. For less than that (about $1.0M) I would permit someone to just whelm me. Later
  19. Was Thomas Hardy a MLBS? He wrote, "And yet to every bad, there is a worse". Later
  20. Vic Sage wrote: thornton is a rightie Then I'm not as optimistic. Thanks. Later
  21. My first memory of him was when I saw him play for Binghamton at New Britain. He impressed me by taking the outside pitch to the left center gap and flashing a very good glove. Later
  22. That Thornton was eligible for the Rule V draft, and nobody drafted him (when many teams are looking for lefty relievers with good K/BB ratios) doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy. But the old baseball adage is that lefties take longer to develop. So maybe he can be good. Time will tell. The PTBNL seems to be the key return. Let's find out who that is. Anyhow, Duda has to step up his game, or Sandy will get roasted until at least one of these guys develop. Later

It would keep falling backwards. Well that would be appropriate, isn't she only famous for spending so much time on her back? I want to say "touche", but in this case, the word is "tooshie". LOL! Uh, maybe we should rejoin the topic of the thread. Later
  24. If anyone would ever kill their team's mascot, it would be the Philly Phannatic. Remember, those folks boo-ed Santa Claus. Later
  25. Just a tangental thought. Isn't rewarding a player like that contraty to MLB contract guidelines? IIRC, you can only include performance bonuses for things like games played or innings pitched, not "counting" kinds of stats. And taking money away for outs? I'm sure the Players' Association would have severe heartburn over that. Later
