  1. Hits the crap out of the ball at Las Vegas. And when a full time righty bat is needed, he will be brought up and stay. .286 - 9 - 63 (23 doubles) in 72 games. Later

  3. The two K's in his name are very descriptive. He'll have to cut down on his strikeouts in order to make a major league team as anything other than a defensive replacement. If he plays any (significant) time with the Mets this year, some really weird stuff must have happened. Later
  4. He is an embarassment to us nuts old guys. Later
  5. 61G, 66 IP, 21BB, 63K, 2.31ERA, 1.29 WHIP, mostly as 8th inning pitcher. 6-7 in save opportunities. Later
  6. 121 games, .277-16-65. Later

  8. .265-21-71. Later
  9. Not ready to predict yet. When is El Gordo going to pitch his first ST game? Later
  10. "The house that Jeter built"? Yeah, well, when you consider how easy it is to hit a home run there, I guess so. I don't want to give that editorial writer a wedgie, I want to Valdespin him. Later
  11. Lefty Specialist wrote: Sterling's going to miss him. No A-bombs this year, either. And no "Cano, don't you know" either. In fact, with the loss of power hitters in the MFY lineup, Sterling may have to make something up to say when they hit doubles. Later

  13. Regarding the show last night: The freaking show was going on its (seemingly) 25th hour when Ellen decided to order in pizza and waste even more time. (Why couldn't they have had Bette Middler sing while they were paying homage to the dearly departed, not after?) The poduim partner of Anna Kendrick was the Academy's way of telling Anna, "You're not a big star-yet". I wonder, if Gravity had been nominated for, and won, the Oscar for costume design, would they have awarded it to NASA? Later
  14. The WOR AM Radio signal is kinda' weak up here. But I read over the weekend that the Mets will still be broadcast on 1050 AM (ESPN DEPORTES) for another few years. I could get that today, so it looks like I'll be brushing up on my Spanish. Later
  15. It will be interesting to see how Puello does this year while under the PED microscope. The scouting lists still rate him highly, so they must feel that is a thing of the past. He'll be playing in the PCL, where the high altitude and dry air make the curve ball a distant rumor. Later
  16. Been there, done that, with the Polo Grounds. There's a plaque in the housing complex that pays tribute to the old ball park that once stood on Coogan's Bluff. That was our history. Later

Definitive proof that Intangibles Don't Catch. Dang! I wish they had that for infielders about 15 years ago, so we wouldn't have to listen to the Klap-trap about how good a fielder that guy playing short across town has been. Later
  18. Can somebody please post a link to a site where I can get spring training box scores? Yahoo sports doesn't - just game stories, and MLB.com still thinks its last season. Thanks. Later
  19. Vic Sage wrote: The Mets moved Flores off SS after 2011 because they felt he lacked range and quickness, not because he couldn't catch and throw. Exactly. I saw Dick Groat play short for the WS winning Pirates. He had very limited range. But he played the position for many years because he read the catcher's signals, fugured out where the batter was likely to his the pitch, and positioned himself accordingly. I thought he had the least range of any shortstop I ever saw, until I saw that guy across town the last few years. But they made up for any fielding deficiency with a live bat. Sign me up, too. I want Wilmer. Later
  20. That 90 win number from Sandy must make Terry Collins all warm and fuzzy. If they get to, or close to, 90, it was expected. If they fall much below that, then he'll be on the chopping block, no matter how many injuries the team has, because the guy who put together the organization must feel there's enough talent to overcome those injuries. Later

  22. Montero will start the first exhibition game later this week. Later
  23. I'm hoping that this spring, Ike will come out as an openly good player. Later
  24. Zvon wrote: That last one looks to be waaaaaay up there. The first banner was in last row at Shea. When banners first appeared at the Polo Grounds, fans who hung them over the railing of the upper deck were asked to remove them. IIRC, safety and/or blocking the view of people in the lower deck were given as the reason. Maybe that's why these fans went to the last row of the upper deck. Or, they got their tickets from Bob Uecker. Later
