  2. Edgy MD wrote: There's nothing wrong with using Matz out of the pen. No small amount of good and great starters have debuted as relievers and spot starters until a spot in the rotation opened up. Certainly nothing wrong with considering it. Its a concern about his surgically repaired arm and whether it could stand up to the irregular use a reliever gets rather then the structured program of a starter. I'd consider it only after checking with several medical specialists that it would be ok. Later
  3. Lefty Specialist wrote: The Mets' other lefty relief candidates include Rule 5 pick Sean Gilmartin, Scott Rice, Dario Alvarez and Jack Leathersich. The Mets have Darin Gorski and former Tiger/Marlin Duane Below in minor-league camp. OY! I hope they don't even consider turning Matz into a reliever. Later
  4. G-Fafif wrote: Barwis and Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon met in 2008 at the University of Michigan, and they kept in touch and began looking for ways to collaborate. Always a good sign. That one sentence is almost enough to make me root for Michigan State. Later
  5. Get out your dueling banjos, folks. This thread is just getting into it. Later
  6. Proves he is a good "organization filler". He has a good year at Las Vegas considering it's, y'know, Las Vegas, but doesn't show enough to be called up ahead of the more highly touted prospects. Maybe next year. But while he's still training with the big club, (channeling Fmann) I can just see Daniel Murphy nervously eyeing the minor leaguers in the locker room, trying to determine which of them has learned whether Tyler was a bitter Pill to swallow. Later
  7. 6 man rotation: Pro: * Limits the innings of Harvey, giving him a chance to build up arm strength * Gives them a chance to showcase all of their starters for potential trade partners * Reduces the number of starts for Niese (always a good thing) * Starters can pitch in relief, if needed, on days when they would normally be "getting in work". This used to be done all the time. Con: * More starts for the 4-6 starters, fewer for the better pitchers, and resultant impact on pennant race. * Niese still pitches every 6 days. Later
  8. Wilpon also vowed to be around much more this spring training. ... He told me two weeks ago, Look, Im going to be here a lot -- a lot, Terrific. That's like telling the army unit that General Custer will be there. Later
  9. Gives the Mets another bullpen arm, which is good, Gives Terry another closer option, which is bad. Yeah, the sports adage says you don't lose your position due to injury, but this isn't football. He was a pitcher who had an arm injury. But I feel if Mejia has a burp in performance, Terry will put Parnell in the closer role, even though Familia will be having a better year. The result will be 2-4 3.96ERA 7 saves and 5 blown saves. 10. Neither MSN nor Yahoo has been posting box scores. MLB.com has, and they're tough to read. Later
  11. As for Conforto, he is going to hit very well at AA and AAA, showing 15-20 HR power (total). Then, in 2016 he'll hit his way onto the big league club. Later
  12. Zvon wrote: I like Floyd, man. He's like, all laid back. Niese done for the day. Got a lil bumpy there but he looked okay. Okay, or just okay for Niese? Later
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: In fairness to Brian Cashman and this retirement idea, after Jeter's leadership which took a team from 4 WS championships in the year's prior to his being named captain to One in the 12 years after he got the honor which included several playoffs misses, numerous 1st-round exits, plus the biggest post-season collapse in the history of ever, how can any mere mortal be expected to live up to such lofty standards. Despite your recent birthday, you're not getting older. You're getting better. Later
  14. d'Kong76 wrote: Traded to AL West team during the spring when someone's arm out there falls off for the season. Maybe sooner than that. Just read that Yu Darvish had an arm injury. I'm wondering if the Mets/Texas talks have heated up. Later
  15. He's going to stick with the club because he's out of options and MDD still has at lest one left. He'll play all three outfield positions and get about 200 at bats , hitting .245-7-24. Later
  16. dgwphotography wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Why not just retire the position of short stop rather than let someone else disgrace the memory? That's exactly what I was thinking. Just paint a big number 2 on the infield dirt between second and third bases. It would have the same amount of range.. So would a small #2. I know, I know. Two CPF-ers have already commented on this. I hat it when I can read the posts at work and can't log on to post my comments until I get home. F'n security software. Later
  17. Not as catchy as Abraham, Martin and John. Later
  18. A 3.99 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP and about one hundred hairs torn out of my head (there won't be many left after that) in frustration and a season long sore throat from screaming for Terry to get him out of the game before its totally lost. I can't wait until he is replaced in the rotation. I hope his numbers are good enough so the Mets can get something valuable in return. Later
  19. He certainly didn't hurt himself with that homer yesterday. But I think his homers will be cutting through AA and AAA air this year. Later
  20. You can pencil him for his usual .285 with 40 doubles, 10 homers and adequate defense at second. Not sure whether those numbers will all be compiled as a Member of the Mets. If he gets dealt to the MFYs (maybe part of a multi-team deal), subtract 10 doubles and add 10 homers because of that little league park. Later
  21. Did Parker wear the helmet to protect himself from the batteries that fans threw at him? Later
  22. I didn't realize he had that much pop (14 HR at Las Vegas, but 9 HR the prior year at Binghamton). Still has to get his BA up a tad for him to be recalled. Not brought up this year. Later
  23. 3 run dinger from Monell after an rbi single from Reynolds. Yowza! 7-2 good guys. Later
  24. Wright apologizes? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/wright-apologizes-prospect-scolding-him-near-media-192058967--mlb.html What a wuss. Later
  25. WFAN Sports Radio @WFAN660 A #Mets spokesman has said that Daniel Murphy will no longer be discussing the Billy Bean issue with reporters. http://cbsloc.al/17PXa8E #NYM 11:48 AM - 4 Mar 2015 Later
