  1. He doesn't even how to misuse a quote from another writer. Once you see the title of the piece and the byline, you know what its going to say. Later

They (GKR) were talking last night about Recker in an emergency although I don't understand why Cuddyer isn't an option. Hell, when Wright went down I wanted him as the first option (both because he's played it before and also in an effort to get Nieuwenberry some semi-regular work) but apparently the powers at be think that ship has sailed even in a pickle. he's stated repeatedly he's not comfortable there. With Niese pitching, I wouldn't be comfortable playing third base, either. Later
  3. Still waiting on Ed Bressoud, which shows an 11:43 posting. A couple of folks seem to be suffering from premature exclamation. Later
  4. The good news about the no hitter is that nobody around the country noticed. ESPN and most of the sports pages were featuring LeBron James stuff. I just heard on WFAN that the Washington Post headline sports page article was about a local high school team and the no-hitter was buried in the newswire out of town recap stuff. Later
  5. I forget who originally wrote it, but a sportswriter long ago described reserves who flourished in that role but got worse when playing steadily as "Bench me or trade me" players. Later
  6. Bartolome Fortunato pitched small parts of 2 seasons with the Mets, and was undefeated, with a 2-0 record and an ERA over 7.00. (The fact that was came to the Mets in the Scott Kazmir trade was too painful to lead with) Whaddaya' know about Ed Bressoud? Later
  7. It really flopped at the box office. I mean really! One theater in Arizona reported a ticket sale of $9.00. Yes, that's nine whole, entire, dollars for the house. Total gate is way under $1 million. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch of assholes who financed a movie to show the world how good they are. (Yes, it was financed by the guys at FIFA themselves) Snicker. Later
  8. 4th round: David Thompson, 3B, U of Miami BR/TR, lots of power Yikes! .333/.445/.658 19 HR, 87 RBI in 64 games Sickels liked Thompson as a possible first rounder: David Thompson, 3B-1B, Miami-Florida: Junior, hits right, mashed to tune of .333/.445/.658 with 19 homers, 43/27 BB/K in 243 at-bats. Huge power to all fields, good strike zone judgment, good track record with wooden bats. This is a first-round bat but shoulder injuries have hampered his throwing and many scouts believe hell have to move to first base. Hes not a butcher, however, and in my opinion people are under-rating him. Target Territory: Compensation round/second round, although personally Id consider him in the second half of the first round. Me likey. Later
  9. But none from Georgia. Are they all still destined to go to the Braves? Later
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: MFS62 wrote: At least it appears that he hits right handed. That's good! Because right-handed hitters are so rare! The top position players the Mets have drafted recently have hit left handed. Nimmo, Conforto and Smith are lefty batters. Later
  11. Interesting stuff: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/104473/mets-select-offensive-machine-desmond-lindsay-with-top-pick Committed to UNC. What's the name of that academy again? "Offensive machine". Maybe he has gotten rid of his hamstring problem already, so it won't slow down his run for Rookie of the Year when he gets here. Hope they can sign him. Later
  12. Novel , as in new and different. The rest was more about poetic license than about his baseball skills. B'sides, how often do you see Ernie Kovacs mentioned here? Later
  13. Not in the top 200? Really? MLB guys VS our scouts. Time will tell. At least it appears that he hits right handed. OE - BA had him at 102. Later
  14. If I want to see a novelty act, I'll (to paraphrase Ernie Kovacs in his novel "Zoomar") watch old tapes of the Ed Sullivan Show to see a dog fart the Star Spangled Banner. When the novelty has worn off, it will all boil down to how well he pitches. Later
  15. I used t think that Al Spangler was destined to be a Met, like Al Luplow. But alas, it was not to be. (Did I miss Al Luplow, or is he there?) Good job on the Boston Braves. Oh, and F'k YOU, Joe Torre. Later
  16. From the BA Prospect Hot Sheet: 4. Wuilmer Becerra, rf, Mets Team: low Class A Savannah (South Atlantic) Age: 20 Why He’s Here: .448/.467/.759 (13-for-29), 9 R, 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 RBIs, 1 BB, 5 SO The Scoop: It probably will never be known as “The Wuilmer Becerra Trade.” When the Mets traded R.A. Dickey to the Blue Jays after the 2012 season, the two prized prospects they received were Noah Syndergaard and Travis d’Arnaud. They also got the Blue Jays to include Becerra, who had just finished his pro debut in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. He had been a high-profile prospect in Venezuela the year before, when he signed for $1.3 million, but his first pro season was cut short when he had to have his jaw wired shut after getting hit in the face with a pitch. He has put himself back on the prospect radar by hitting .283/.325/.489 through 50 games at Savannah. Later
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: Fuckin' Pathetic!! 10 hits plus 2 walks plus a catcher's interference and nothing produced a run except for the HR which, of course, came with the bases empty. This team couldn't score at Spring Break. Later
  18. The much anticipated "Big One" strikes the West Coast. The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is an L.A. emergency worker trying to save his family during a 9.6 earthquake and resultant tsunami that hits California along the San Andreas Fault. There have been similar stories in made-for-TV movies on the Sci-Fi Channel. But this one has a better script, much bigger special effects budget, and, believe it or not, better acting. (OK, that last one's not too hard.) Personally, I would rather have seen it totally devastate Chavez Ravine where they took the team I used to root for. But most of the movie takes place in San Francisco, so seeing it hit ATT Park was partial solace. Later
  19. Speaking of things that'll kill ya', I still remember when baseball players endorsed cigarettes in print ads. Later
  20. There was a hill in the outfield of Crosley Field for about a hundred years, and it was just "part of the game". Wusses. Later
  21. I had to pause for a while when I saw the picture of Casey Stengel as a player. Thanks. Later
  22. Since Kirk is no longer here, can we re-use Dutch Treat? He makes the other team pay) Later
  23. My kid made his 2015 debut last night for PSL. He went 1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, WP. Later
  24. This should have been an opportunity for Niese to work out his problems and also rest other arms in the bullpen. And, it would have fit into TC's plans to have pitchers throw between starts in the 6 man rotation. Those are generally the only good things to come out of games like this. Later
  25. Edgy MD wrote: While they're out west, they may want to invite Alex Castellanos over for a play date. He and his team are currently enjoying the dry rub ribs in Memphis. Maybe he can come and play with our kids when the long journey won't interrupt his nap time. Later
