They are teaching the youngsters to wear a baseball cap they way it should be worn, curved brim. It appears that Luis Mateo is the only slow learner. I'm thinking the caps are "structured" (or pre-bent) in the minors. (At least on picture day.) Dang! That bursts my bubble. I prefer my version and that the kids are being taught not to look like flat-hat punks. Later

  3. Baseball fans and teammates (and maybe even family) alike are pretty sure the player's full name is "That asshole AJ Pierzynski". He has had some interesting on-field and clubhouse battles over the years. Later
  4. I'm pretty sure Cespedes realizes the guy would get a long term contract. Right? So if he's pushing for the signing, is that indication Yo would want to stay with the Mets beyond the walk-off terms of his current contract? Or is that a wishful thinking? Later
  5. I wish him well. As I understand it,this will help him with the vertebrae in his neck, but will have no effect on his spinal stenosis. Is that correct? Later
  6. The 13th round pick played the system well. http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/daily-southtown/sports/ct-sta-pat-disabato-column-st-0615-20160614-story.html Later

Round 37: Branden Fryman, SS out of Florida HS: Son of Travis Fryman. When the local tv sports reporter (don't remember which one) said Fryman was the son of an ex Detroit major leaguer. I thought of Woody, forgot about Travis. And, is Ian Strom related to ex-Met Brent? Later
  9. The first 10 picks all were college kids. I don't know if that is significant or not. But its interesting. Later
  10. I heard that his one good tool is a power bat. But I guess that's kinda' obvious once you see that picture. Later
  11. Some 6 degrees of (or less) separation stuff: The catcher the White Sox selected with the 10th pick is the son of my daughter's boss. She told me that they were expecting him to be selected early and a local TV crew was set up in his home to get the family's reaction. I thought they only did stuff like that in the NFL and NBA drafts. Later
  12. Some more on Craig. I read in today's NY Post that the Mets are high on him because of the power they saw from him during the ACC Tournament. I remember a time they did something similar, and how it turned out. They drafted a player who had hit 7 home runs in the NCAA tourney and thought he would be a power hitter at the major league level. The player? Dave Magadan. He turned out to be a good major league hitter, but not the power hitter they envisioned when they drafted him. Has Craig shown power his entire collegiate career? From the link above it seems that his power was diminished when he played in the wood bat Cape Cod league. But if they draft him, I'll be happy. Later
  13. This felt like losing the discus throw to Pee Wee Herman. Later
  14. How well put. Richard Neer (the only host on the station who will occasionally discuss controversial things like this) echoed those sentiments on WFAN yesterday morning. Later

So using that precedent, Wright should fly past Strawberry easy. Do you really think Custer personally killed all of them? Anyhow, I wasn't citing that as a precedent. It was a metaphor to say that I believe Wright is on his last stand. I know you knew that. As I posted (and voted) in another thread, I think this is his last year and he will retire at the end of this season. Later
  17. I voted no. I'm not getting too excited about his seven home runs so far this year. I'm guessing that General Custer killed some Native Americans during his last stand, but not enough to save him. I feel the same way about David reaching the record before he has to leave the game for good. Not enough. Later
  18. Herniated disc in his neck. OE: More about it tomorrow after Dave sees doc. David Wright says it's difficult to turn his head side to side. He's hoping medicine keeps reducing pain. Notes it's team's call on DL. Well, it would be a way to make room on the roster for the new first baseman they just acquired. Later
  19. In what alternate universe is there a "dream team" with Dave Gallagher on it? Later

[fimg=200]https://onceuponascreen.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/columbo.jpg?w=454[/fimg] Ohhh, one more thing. I think one of them is doing something to our players backs and I intend to prove it. First Wright, then Duda, now Cabrera - they all have back problems. Maybe its just that dealing with the New York press can give you a pain in the ass? Ohhh, one more thing. That soap shaped like flowers in your bathroom. Can you use it, or is it just for show? (that's a line I remember from a Columbo episode) Later
