  2. This is a toughie because they are both good. I voted '74 because it felt good to see that flag. Later
  3. Nice win. One of these days, I hope they really beat up on Gio. He's a Met-stifler (is that a word? Who the fuck cares. I hat him) of the highest order. Later
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That was great. Yankees should have win in 11 but an incredible play and a dumb slide prevented it I never thought the Os would come back and win once the MFYs tied the game at 3-3. Against Chapman (8th or 9th inning) with two runners on base, the two players who batted looked like Morty and Ferdie, your neighborhood pizza delivery guys. Later
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: The consensus seemed to be that HELL OR HIGH WATER was terrific, WIND RIVER less so but still good, and SICARIO a messy disappointment. So naturally SICARIO 2 is the one coming to a theatre near you. I win the bet! I win the bet! Oh, wait. Never mind. Later

  7. Las Vegas ended up losing 4-2, collecting five hits along the way. Later
  8. Let's party like its 1999. Later

  13. And Matt comes away with a pat on the back and a 1.000 Batting Average. We don't need no steenking DH. Later
  14. Fman99 wrote: All this needs are some topless Bartolo scenes and I'm all in. I just threw up in my mouth. Later
  15. Lefty Specialist wrote: Robles. Ptui. That's why we are hoping for Vargas to make a speedy recovery so Lugo can move to the bullpen and Robles can be returned to wherever the forces that be think he should go. I'm sure you'd like to tell him where to go. Later
  16. Ceetar wrote: I mean, you get this sorta silliness over crappy players plenty of times. Super Joe, Sal's Pals for crappy Sal Fasano spring to mind. And then there was the "Make this world a better place for John Pregenzer to pitch in" Fan Club which was started in Sf when he was put on waivers (which at that time was $100). Later
  17. MFYs trying to pollute senior centers with their smell, says the Times. In the Bronx, Stadium Scents Take Fans Out to the Ballgame : https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/31/nyregion/in-the-bronx-stadium-scents-take-fans-out-to-the-ballgame.html What does smugness and entitlement smell like? This "Older Jewish fan" remembers. If you were a kid with dark skin or wearing a yarmulke the guards at the original YS wouldn't let you go down to better seats toward the end of a game, even in a mostly emptied out ballpark. Yet they always seemed to be looking the other way when other kids did it. And it happened way more then once. And that's part of the reason why I rooted for Brooklyn. Maybe they're finally trying to atone. Later

  19. G-Fafif wrote: They start testing the runner on second rule (and all the others) at the major league level today. WTF? This was supposed to be a one year test in the minor leagues. Outrageous! Later
  20. Edgy MD wrote: I'm guessing Flores plays first and Reyes or Evans cracks the lineup also. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Save that stuff for later in the season when guys get tired. Of course, when Wilmer hits a game winning dinger and Evans gets three hits, I'll say "good move" Later
  21. Edgy MD wrote: I looked it up. It was Joe Schultz, who went 2-4 batting cleanup for the Brooklyn Robins on opening day against the New York Giants, before taking the collar out of the leadoff spot in game two. Joe's son would go on to fame as the foul-mouthed manager of the Seattle Pilots. Thanks. That is as interesting as the batting order fact. Later
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That 2003 cover may very well be the worst of the worst. I can't imagine what they were thinking. Art Howe may have lit up the room during his interview, but it seems that whoever composed this cover didn't think that Art, or anyone else for that matter, was worth highlighting. Which inspired my song parody "Total Eclipse of the Art". Later
  23. As seen on Yahoo sports: The Elias Sports Bureau said Cabrera was the first player since 1915 to bat cleanup on opening day and then hit leadoff the next game. Did the announcers mention this during the game? Anyhow, lousy reporting. Who was that player in 1915? Inquiring minds want to know. And no, I don't remember the game, Later
  24. Waitaminnit! I was at work and just saw the box score. Is it a misprint, or did Rosario take a walk? Let me check. Yes, Rosario took a walk! He's gonna' be a monster, I tell ya'. Later
  25. Now that he showed he can walk today, the sky's the limit. All-star starter for the foreseeable future. Later
