  1. 2004 - Victor Diaz and Craig Brazell both hitting late inning homers to tie, then win, the game for the Mets. It was the only game I ever saw from a luxury box with about 25 folks sharing catered food, drink and the victory. Later
  2. Who is the Dude? A CPF-er? And Isn't this the (mid) part of Spring Training when pitchers get a "dead arm" and hitters start to get their swings together? Two runs and eight hits from probably the opening day lineup is not encouraging. Later
  3. Looks like Rosario's ok. (knocking wood) https://nypost.com/2018/03/11/amed-rosario-is-healthy-again-and-one-hustle-play-proves-it/ (exhaling) Later
  4. MLB network os reporting Lance Lynn to the Twins - 1 year, $12 million. Later
  5. Can't they beat those guys in at least one or two ST games, just to wipe the smirks off the faces of the YLDBs? Please? Later
  6. d'Kong76 wrote: Blacked out here on MLB, they're running a top 100 thing or something. Crap! You're right. That's what I get for believing in the listings. It was the 100 top baseball players. But when I tuned in to check, it was apparently time for them to run the top 100 commercials. I tuned out after about seven in a row. Looks like its YES or nothing. Later
  7. d'Kong76 wrote: Ugg, as feared we're stuck with the YES booth this afternoon. It looks like the game will also be on MLB network. Not sure who will be in that booth. Later
  8. Nice to see Rosario feels healthy enough to play shortstop. C'mon Dark Knight, strike down those Jokers. Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: [*]Skip (p) Lockwood and his dead-ringer lookalike brother Claude (3b).[/list] Nice try. Thought you could slip that one by us, eh, when you put him in a separate category from two way players? Later
  10. I thought I was carrying on a long-time CPF tradition and didn't know the origins of it. I have nothing against the guy. And now that I think about it, anyone who can challenge or erase records held by Pete Rose is a hero in my book. Go Ichiro. Later
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Bullpen blue. chunks. Later
  12. 4-3 Nats. Familia gave up all four. Still half a game to pull this one out. Later
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: My mother-in-law, however, likes Esther Williams, and I'm still here, so I'd appreciate it if everyone here would despise Esther Williams! Thanks! Decent swimmer. She couldn't act worth shit. OK? Later
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Y If a movie starred Nicholas Cage, but had Harry Dean Stanton in a supporting role, that might one of those irresistible-force-meets-immovable-object conundrums. Edgy, that is one of your best lines - EVER. I'm still laughing. Later
  15. Edgy MD wrote: I passed on to a friend the Roger Ebert philosophy that "no movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad." Interesting. Harry Dean Stanton was in Steven Seagal's Fire Down Below and Emmet Walsh was in Chuck Norris' Missing in Action. Although the bar is low, those were probably two of their better movies. I think Norris had a baseball theme in some of his Walker, Texas Ranger episodes, but I don't think Seagal ever did anything with a baseball theme. Later
  16. Casey Stengel said he could "hit baseballs over buildings". He knocked it out of the park on that day, too. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: While Mickey Callaway praised most of the pitchers vying for a spot, he also noted that Rafael Montero was the exception. The right-hander, who is out of options and had been having a decent spring, gave up five runs in a third of an inning. — Puma My kid has been a real disappointment. Later
  18. From Rotoworld: Mike Moustakas' agent Scott Boras suggested to Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star that his client might not sign until after the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft. That would no longer tie Moustakas to draft pick compensation and could finally spring open a fruitful market for the 29-year-old third baseman, especially if he is willing to accept offers that would only carry through to the end of the 2018 season. He can not have that draft pick compensation tied to him next winter, per the CBA rules. "Watch what happens," Boras said. "This player has no picks attached to him. It goes away, because they can only put it on him once. So now it's a totally different world for Moose." Boras and Moustakas were believed to be seeking upwards of five years and $75 million when this offseason began. Boras, playing the angles again. The player will probably get as much for that first half a season as he would for a full first season if a team really wants to sign him. And teams will have a better handle on their needs mid-season. I wonder if other still unsigned free agents might have to wait that long? Later
  19. 2 runs, 1 hi, and no RBI for the good guys. (According to the box score I saw) How did they score? Error? Later
  20. Who are the three obvious major leaguers in that lineup? Gardner, Romine, and Austin? (BTW, isn't Austin MF's adoptee? Where has she been?) Premium? Who's zooming who? Fuck them and the [crossout:3pju82n6]horse[/crossout:3pju82n6] bus they rode in on. Later
  21. Snow storm movie watching. The Great Wall is on. Its not a great movie by any means, but I think it might have gotten an Oscar nod for one of the categories like Production Design, Costume Design or Special Effects. Later
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Field of Dreams was a disappointment, because it wasn't nearly as good as the book that inspired it. And I was afraid I'd be the only one here who didn't like it. I never read the book, but didn't like the movie because I thought it was "hokey" and manipulative - pushing too hard for the tear-jerker effect. I liked Bull Durham, Major League, Bad News Bears (the original), The Jackie Robinson Story(because Jackie starred in it, and I thought that was cool) and, yes, Pride of the Yankees. I would watch any of them again. The Natural was ok, but don't see myself watching it again. The others? meh. To me, the best sports movie ever was Hoosiers, but I think we've had that discussion before. Later
  23. Good choice. If you didn't adopt him, I was going to do it. Later
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: Ichiro poised to sign with ... the Mariners. Birds chirping... OK, I'll go for it. Fuck Ichiro! Later
  25. If he can pitch those three shutouts in the PCL, we'll see him a lot sooner than that. Later
