  1. He was ours, for a brief moment in 2004, then gone in a trice in the (I prefer to call it the ) Jeff Keppinger deal. Later
  2. Back at first base today. Later

And, since I'm probably not the only one thinking it, that would be a lot to ask of Alonso even if his glove wasn't already his biggest issue. From what I've read about him, we'd be longing for the days of watching Todd Hundley in the outfield. Later
  4. Attack or fire the whistle blower. Hmmmm. Where have we heard that before? That makes the Marlins a "foreign owned" company? Doesn't that need a MLB approval, or is it legal at all? (Thinking about anti-trust or tax regulations) I'm getting all giddy thinking of seeing Jeter walking out a Federal Prison carrying a gift basket from his cell mate. Later
  5. Paving the way to first base for Mr. Alonso. Later
  6. Seven of the Mets' first eight picks last year were college players, from winning programs (Stanford, Oregon, Oklahoma State) too. I originally had specified position players, but it must have been accidentally deleted when I made some other edits. From the scouting thread about Bart: The Mets have gone the college route recently, taking three college arms with first-round picks in 2017 and two in 2016. The last college bat they took was Michael Conforto in 2014, and he got to the big leagues in a hurry. Later
  7. Start rebuilding the pipeline as well as making moves at the major league level. The next step will be the draft. Success builds on success. Draft players who have had success at winning programs, players who have performed, not those who they think might perform. And I would concentrate with the first few picks on college players who could be closer to major league ready than high school players. (I also posted other thoughts in the draft thread.) Later
  8. Omar Minaya had a great reputation for being able to scout and evaluate talent. The Mets rehired him last December as Special Assistant to Sandy Alderson. I would guess his job will be to help the team restock its farm system. His first test will be the upcoming draft. Let's see if he can put the organization back on the right track. I thought of putting this is the " So What Now?" thread, but this seemed more appropriate because of the timing wrt the draft. Later
  9. Bring in a Shaman to remove the curse put on the team when they built Citi Field on a Native American Burial Grounds. Later

  12. I can't wait for the return of # 162. The offense needs the kind of jump start I think he could provide. Later
  13. I visit the CPF several times a day (before and after work) and have been looking at this since it was posted. I really have no specific memories of Matt Harvey. If I had any, they seem to have been erased from my memory. The good is gone with the bad. Maybe I've gotten too blase about the players. Maybe I was turned off by the press likening him to a comic book hero I never really liked. Maybe it was the success, then the fall. But even with his success, I never really warmed up to him as a Met, like I have with other players over the years. Those were guys who had to work hard for what they got, and didn't waste the bounty they were given at birth. The other day a work, the YLDB next to me asked how I felt about the Harvey trade. I had nothing to say. I didn't care. Later
  14. Its the Post. What do you expect? That rag attracts writers who seem to be gleeful writing about Mets misfortunes, and bleacher creature types who think an article like that is accurate.(If they can get someone to read it to them) The author isn't even a sportswriter by profession. Dan McLaughlin is an attorney practicing securities and commercial litigation in New York City, I'm guessing that if he's a YLDB, he litigates against the little guy in favor of large corporations. And he probably was abused as a child. It says a lot about the Post sports editorial staff to print it. Later
  15. Basement Bertha AND Yuchie? You can't go wrong voting for that one. Later
  16. Matt Harvey didn't start against the Mets today and shut them out. Later
  17. d'Arnaud 1469 PA, .306 OBP, .406 SLG, 95 OPS+ Mesoraco 1345 PA, .309 OBP, .405 SLG, 94 OPS+ Later

  19. Frayed Knot wrote: but one can also question the wisdom of inviting teams that are going to cause the cricket fans over there utter; "I say, why is this game taking so bloody long?" Well done. LOL! Later
  20. Its looking like the Academy might want to take the proceeds from the Yearbook Cover Derby and build a Willard Mullin rotunda. Or the Trophy named in his honor(whether or not he wins it). Later
  21. RealityChuck wrote: I notice the Baseball Reference's similarity score lists Travis D'Arnaud as his #2. That's like saying the #2 similarity score to your car is a Yugo. Later
  22. On Sunday morning, I saw the original "Mummy" with Boris Karloff. (1932?) There have been several versions since. Most of them stay relatively true to the original film. (And then there was an Abbott and Costello one, too). I enjoyed the Brendan Frasier, Rachel Weisz one (probably because of her). But that evening I saw the recent Tom Cruise remake. Feh. Later
  23. I was torn on this one. But the only thing that beats Willard Mullin is that trophy. Later
  24. Whew! I thought YS III was a bandbox. But the balls fly out of this place like its a little league field. With Vargas pitching tomorrow, I hope our guys have something left in the tank. Later
