  1. Centerfield wrote: I guess so. I don't know. I just feel like they are such a different team with Cespedes in the lineup. And when Noah comes back, if they can just get close, maybe they call up Alonso and he goes on a tear. And I know that "if everything breaks right they can maybe grab a wild card" was exactly the season I was campaigning against in the winter, but given the choice between that and another lost season... That's why "bad" isn't the word I'd use yet. For now, its just "frustrating". Later
  2. Has any reason been given as to why Jose Reyes is the starting shortstop? Is Lugo THAT good that they have to give him a handicap? And, Edgy is pretty correct about this: Maybe, but my understanding is that it doesn't provide enough resistance to effectively create the break of curveball pitchers. The thinner air doesn't create as much of a pressure differential on one side of the ball VS the other. (Bernoulli's principle) Later
  3. My major concern with moving Vargas to the bullpen is that he will pitch in later innings, thereby giving the offense less time to get back the runs he gives up. Later
  4. Nymr83 wrote: I had no idea Smith could play the outfield. And so much for the plethora of capable outfielders we had. Injuries sort things out as usual. Just because he's playing in the outfield doesn't mean he can play the outfield. We'll find out. Later
  5. Vic Sage wrote: Borenstein's OB% is still .350, despite the .250 BA, and he's done it over a span of 3x as many ABs as Kaz, but yeah, i'd take either one over Bautista right now. Yes, I'd take Borenstein now, too. He better fits a current need and, as you said, he would have the perspective of a veteran in his role. Later
  6. Vic Sage wrote: They should DL Bruce, cut Bautista and Reyes, and bring up Kelly, McNeil and Borenstein, whose the leading hitter in Vegas this season. These are AAAA-type players who could be useful if given a chance, and certainly will bring more energy and potential than the washed up vets currently stinking up the bench. And since they're older players, they'll be grateful, and won't need to play everyday. You wouldn't want Alonzo up here sitting on the bench, but Borenstein or Kelly or McNeil are less of a concern in that regard. Borenstein hit his 16th home run, went 4-4 last night, but that only raised his average to .250. The outfielder who interests me is centerfielder Kevin Kaczmarski, who is hitting .367. The only problem is that he is a leadoff-type lefty hitter with little power. I hope they would call him up in September because he sounds like a fun player to watch. Later
  7. Now THAT is the kind of lead I would be confident turning over to Sewald. And I hope he gets at least 20-30 more of those chances this year. Later
  8. I hope last night was a sign that some semblance of offense is about to emerge, but recently this team couldn't score at the Chicken Ranch with a fist full of Fifties. When things like this go on for an extended period of time, its usually the hitting coach who gets the hit. Later
  9. I got up and saw the final score and thought "What a great Fathers' Day present." Thank you, Mets. Later
  10. G-Fafif wrote: Update: The 2018 Mets are the first Mets to have risen to at least Ten Games Over .500 and fall to at least Nine Games Under .500 later that same season. Records are made to be broken. So is my spirit. Later
  11. G-Fafif wrote: Instinctively, I think of this as Donn Clendenon Day. Nice. Think positive. Later

  14. Valadius wrote: Jeff McNeil and Peter Alonso on their way to Vegas. Alonso went 1-4 in today's game for Binghamton. Are there any direct flights to Las Vegas? Later
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: It's just frustrating to hear that they should have walked him, but only after something bigger than a walk occurs. And again, if you want to make the case that 100% walksshould be the case then go ahed and make it. But the passive/aggressive approach is no approach at all. Why get angry with your frustration? You are generally one of the good guys here. This is out of character for you. I admitted I have no statistical backing to it, just gut feel. Maybe its just jealousy that the Braves have someone as consistently good as him and we don't. I dunno. I can root for or against any player at any time. It my right as a fan. What more do you want me to say? Later
  16. If I'd known you'd get that excited I wouldn't have written it. Your health is important to us. Yes, no excuse. I post it in the same way people started posting "Fuck Ichiro" and it turned into a thing. Its my perception that he does seem to do well against the Mets at the most inappropriate times, and I have no statistical backup for that. He's a pain in the ass against the Mets. I dislike him as much as I disliked Larry Jones. There have been some players who did well against the Mets who I respected - Stargell comes to mind. Freddie's not one of them. Maybe in the future, I'll just type "Fuck Freddie Freeman". Now get better. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Amazin' that the team hasn't been no-hit yet. They're doing a great job distributing their 2-5 hits evenly across every game. Give them time. When is the next Julio Teheran start against them? Later
  18. Just got home and saw the box score. In yesterday's thread, I said to pitch around Freddie F'n Freeman. Maybe if I etched it on a stone tablet and left it in the clubhouse, they'll read it. Later
  19. d'Kong76 wrote: NYM-deGrom (4-1, 1.57) ATL-Soroka (1-1, 3.68) I'm not very confident about this one. While DeGrom pitches well in day games, the Mets couldn't hit playing a video baseball game. Later
  20. Three hits. Blurf. Later

  23. smg58 wrote: Well in baseball's major league, pitchers swing the bat all the time. That doesn't get a BOC. It gets a standing ovation. Later
  24. Nice job, Bunt the first two. and As for a shortstop who really didn't deliver to our expectations (ok, so we got him to play third), don't forget that "All Star" guy we got for Nolan Ryan. Jim something. He was a case of better never than late. Later
  25. I'm not looking at this as an opportunity for Smith. I'm looking at this as an opportunity to move Peter Alonso to AAA. And Alonso is NOT in the Las Vegas lineup tonight. I hope it means he is still en route. Later
