  1. A great loss to the sports writing profession. RIP. Later
  2. Who was the other third baseman worth talking to/ about? A-Rod? Oh yeah, it must have been, because that selfish creep didn't want to move off shortstop to make way for a batter one. I voted Jefferies. Later
  3. =kcmets post_id=4903 time=1553475269 user_id=53] Is the middle guy Stew Leonard?
  4. 86-76 Wild Card Lose in NLCS. Later
  5. Andres Regnault is a catcher who played for the DSL Mets 1 team last year. He is 6 feet tall and is listed at 250 pounds. Oh, and he went .333/.573/.420 with 9 HR and 45 RBI in 53 games. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=regnau000andhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=regnau000and Welcome to the family, Andres. I'm sure the more balanced diet we'll feed you will pare off some of that poundage. Later
  6. And 8-4 good guys is your final. Lagares homered. 4 RBI for McNeil. Alonso TRIPLED! Dom Smith with an o-fer. Zach Lee with 4 scoreless innings (6 hits allowed) for the win. Later
  7. This is my favorite part - something we here all knew about for years: “At the meeting, Derek said, ‘What other shortstop would you want playing here?' and I started rolling off names,” says Cashman. “I got, like, three names down and Casey said, ‘Stop, this isn't productive.' All together now - Fuck Derek Jeter. Later
  8. at Stew Leonard's in Norwalk, CT this Monday: https://patch.com/connecticut/norwalk/meet-4-legendary-baseball-players-stew-leonards-norwalkhttps://patch.com/connecticut/norwalk/meet-4-legendary-baseball-players-stew-leonards-norwalk Later
  9. An 848 OPS says he'll be playing somewhere this year after his elbow heals, but it won't be in a New York Mets uniform. Later
  10. Edgy MD wrote: To me, what really strikes the imagination is him assuming the catching crouch position with an ass full of cheesesteaks. Getting down into the crouch is (relatively) easy. The force of gravity helps a lot. Getting up out of the crouch is a lot tougher. Later
  11. Lefty Specialist wrote: Will spend the summer being an annoying partner to David Cone, Ken Singleton and Paul O'Neill. PSST, not the same guy. But I'm still laughing. Later
  12. Mets (re-)sign Ruben Tejada to a minor league deal. He'll head to extended Spring Training - for now. Welcome back. Hope you're fully healed. Later
  13. If I want to see future Mets instead of ex-Mets, Hartford is the closest place (for me) to see the AA Binghamton team. Here's the promotions schedule: https://www.milb.com/hartford/news/yard-goats-release-2019-promotional-schedule/c-303629864https://www.milb.com/hartford/news/yard-goats-release-2019-promotional-schedule/c-303629864 Note the name changes during the season. Side note, is there a Going to the Game thread yet? Later
  14. I'd be more confident with this one pitching: http://www.chillertheatre.com/zach/news0903.htmhttp://www.chillertheatre.com/zach/news0903.htm Later
  15. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: The Strawberry quote I remember was after signing with the Dodgers "Now you'll see the REAL Darryl Strawberry." Yup (R) My favorite was when he was being scouted in high school and someone told he reminded him of Ted Williams. Strawberry replied, "Who's Ted Williams". Later
  16. Edgy MD wrote: The final turnoff was when their "pro football expert" Tex Maulle predicted the Colts would beat the Jets in Super Bowl III by the score of 66-0. (as Casey Stengel used to say, "you can look it up") At that point, they lost all credibility as a sports magazine. Maule's prediction was 43-0. Casey was right. You must have looked it up. Later
  17. Not that I'd wish anyone ill (yeah, surrrre), but .... https://www.yahoo.com/news/yankees-instructor-mazzilli-hospitalized-being-235831370.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/news/yankees-instructor-mazzilli-hospitalized-being-235831370.html The f'n turncoat. Later
  18. Baseball Digest Classic. Later
  19. I never liked SI. I was never into yacht racing off Australia or underwater pretzel throwing from Provo, Utah (AAU sponsored). It was like the illegitimate offspring of a union between Sport and the New Yorker It was the Wide World of Sports of the print media. I preferred my sports media more immediate with things like scores and statistics. I'm sure there was a market for what they were selling, but i wasn't buying. It was the Sporting News for me. The final turnoff was when their "pro football expert" Tex Maulle predicted the Colts would beat the Jets in Super Bowl III by the score of 66-0. (as Casey Stengel used to say, "you can look it up") At that point, they lost all credibility as a sports magazine. Later
  20. At least my cheesesteak record wasn't broken by him. Later
  21. Have to go for the Ellery Queen cover because of its uniqueness. And I can imagine that Ron Darling may have read more issues of that publication than the one in which he was featured. Later
  22. Once opposing managers start some lefty pitchers against them, Lagares will start to get more and more playing time. Maybe 40-50 starts, lotsa' games as a defensive replacement. .270 - 5 - 29 Later
  23. =Centerfield post_id=4539 time=1553004623 user_id=65] Signs a minor league deal. Will make $3 million if he makes the club. Um. So, why were we not in on that?
  24. Riots starting in Philadelphia in 3...2...1.... No big news. They riot in Philadelphia when someone wishes them "good morning". Later
  25. Melting Pot Mets for me. I loved Baseball Digest, but its SI by a slight margin in this contest. And, I'm going to try to stay away from voting for any cover with an MFY logo on it. (even though Yogi became a Met) Later
