  1. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Contrast him with say Joe Morgan whom I really admired as a player but turned out to be a regressive and bad color commentator. I've said this before, but when talking about Morgan's announcing, it is always fun to repeat it. Joe Morgan "wrote" a book called "Baseball for Dummies". (It was one of the "___ for Dummies" series.) When I saw the book, I thought it was his autobiography. Later
  2. Dom Smith might be playing for a roster spot. Later
  3. When you visit Columbia, be sure to eat at The Lizzard's Thicket. https://www.lizardsthicket.com/food-menus/https://www.lizardsthicket.com/food-menus/ Lunch is a meat and two sides (your choice) and there are always biscuits and cornbread on the table. Later
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: As opposed to Alonso who, like Bon Jovi, is starting to give glove a bad name. OOOOOHHHH! A tip o' the hat for that one. (Still groaning) Later
  5. Oswalt is really a starter. I wonder if this means Vargas is being moved to the bullpen? (shudder) Later
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: I suspect Gary didn't even know he was making a pun when he talked about the Twins https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler%27s_laws_of_planetary_motionputting Kepler in motion. I bet he did, and was saving that one from the time he saw the name on their roster during his pre-series research. I know in my heart that he got the idea of pre-series study from reading our KTE* threads. Later * = WTF ever happened to those?
  7. Stunt double for the bartender pal of Deadpool. Or is he really that actor? I'm not sure, but he'll have plenty of time to work on his audition tapes in Syracuse. Later
  8. Edgy MD wrote: Also, last night's was supposedly the smallest crowd in Orioles Park at Camden Yards history. What ever happened to good old fashioned morbid curiosity? Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Losses assigned to pitchers are a pretty arbitrary statistic. And Anthony Young saved at least 15 games during that loss streak. Yet his name is in the record book, deserved or not. Later
  10. .275-22-78 in 130 games. Later
  11. The Anthony Young of hitters. Later
  12. Until I see Luc Rennie actually play in a baseball game, I will believe in the bottom of my heart that he is really a hockey player. Later
  13. My extreme dislike for Anthony Rendon continues. Fucker! Later
  14. I didn't know you can grow cotton at the beach. Of, wait! Its Colton. Never mind. No major league time this year for the Mets. Later
  15. It looks like the pitchers have made adjustments to him or found his weakness (a thrown baseball). I think he needs a three week mental health trip to AAA to readjust. When he gets back, he'll be ok, but not as good as last year. Later
  16. Two Petersons? One righty and one lefty? I just had a Bob Miller flashback. This one will first have to make it to the major league roster, then will probably have a better major league career, but it won't start this year. Later
  17. Speaking of opening day, the Minor League baseball messed with their site, making it much harder to find all an organization's teams (and their box scores) amid all the team logos and graphics. Yech. Later
  18. Memory is fuzzy, but I seem to recall that in a prior life (or on another CPF board) I might have adopted Mike Gibbons. Since he's the only other lefty, I guess you're referring to Blake Taylor as the other of the two top prospect left handers. He was a second round pick of the Pirates. How did he get to the Mets to continue his (so far) undistinguished career? Or is that the "why" part of the answer? Later
  19. I'd like to see him make the majors and pitch for the Mets. But if he doesn't, I want to see Mickey Jannis pitch for them when I see them play at Hartford this June. Other than him, there's really nobody else on that team who makes me want to see him. Later
  20. =Centerfield post_id=6435 time=1554410643 user_id=65] Did Lugo suck again? I have a feeling he's going to be seeing Dr. Andrews sometime soon.
  21. Rip this fucking place down and build a place where they can win. (And a place where they can score enough runs to be exciting would help, too.) Later
  22. You really have to be an pompous arsehole to rent a car from National. Later
  23. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Managers who do whacky or seemingly counterproductive things in the first week of the season shouldn't be fired. They might be secret geniuses in fact. Its not the event, its the continuance of a pattern. Later
  24. I don't get all concerned about the fact that he's going to be moved around a lot. Jim (Junior) Gilliam averaged almost 600 AB during his 14 year career. He played third, second, and all three outfield positions during those years and was a valuable contributor at each of those positions. And Jose Ramirez (Cleveland) is doing that these days. Jeff doesn't have the power of Ramirez, but ... .322 - 20 - 82, with more than a few top 5 MVP votes. Later
  25. =Centerfield post_id=5983 time=1554171824 user_id=65] Alonso is a monster. Davis not a good fielder. Diaz fought when he didn't have his control. Mickey remains an idiot.
