    FotF

Benjamin Grimm wrote: In the short term after Seaver was traded and before Mazzilli emerged, I'd say that Joe Torre was the face of the franchise. Its amazing that Torre's face didn't scare people away. To me, the FotF is someone who, when you think of a team, you think of that person. As for Wright being the FotF in 2018, he didn't show that face until the last week of the season. I didn't think of him all year, except when we were discussing money available for acquiring players who could help the team. But I guess he was it because nobody else was really being called that by us or the press, so he gets it by default. Later

(I know it's technically a part of the US. But still more exotic than Cincinnati.) Does their chili have chocolate in it like Cincinnati's? https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/cincinnati-chili-recipe2-1972747https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/cincinnati-chili-recipe2-1972747 Later

You end up creating unintended negative consequences, which you have to deal with through more engineering, which has more unintended consequences, and pretty soon, we're living out the plot to Ωmega Man. Beware the mutant! We may soon see hordes of creatures wearing baseball uniforms who are only capable of hitting, but not fielding. Oh, wait. Later
  7. I always thought he'd be better than he turned out to be. One of those "Let's stick him in the lineup for a while and see what he can do" guys. He never got that chance. Later
  8. You want a 20 second pitch clock to help shorten games? Great, then couple that with a commercial time limit between (half) innings and during pitching changes. And what's with in-game sponsorship? "That first arranging of a player's junk this game is brought to you by Speedo". Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Frank Howard is playing somewhere on the offensive line for my team. Later If we're allowed coaches, bring on Jesse Owens for the split end position. Oops, saw "team's history" and missed "player". I might consider Dick Stuart for tight end, but he wouldn't have any catches. Later
  10. When I was in high school, my friend and I would go to the bowling alley on Northern Boulevard in Bayside on Saturday mornings. MFY left hander Whitey Ford was often there. He bowled with his right hand because he wanted to "protect" his pitching arm. I wonder if pitchers these days share that concern. Later
  11. Follow the money. Something doesn't sound right there, with the union supporting management that way. Later

  13. I liked him when I rooted for the Pirates after my team moved from Brooklyn, and he and Law were the stalwarts of that staff. RIP Later
  14. All said, I'd rather have him pitching for the Mets than against them. That penis has screwed them many times, and has a 1.75 career ERA at CitiField. Later
  15. Willets Point wrote: Yes, but with a provision that the Yankees can't stockpile all the talent. Maybe this should be in the prospect list thread, but this might not be something to worry about. One of the respected prospect sources only had one MFY in their top 100. Later
  16. Emily Blunt won SAG best supporting actress award for her performance in A Quiet Place and wasn't even nominated by the Academy. While blockbuster superhero films are getting recognized, "horror" movies are still waiting for a chance. Later
