I don't understand the prevailing philosophy — with the Mets or more broadly. A bunch of strikeouts interrupted on occasion by homers (too many of which come solo) is not only not a reliable offense, but it makes for boring baseball. The shift must be defeated. The shift must be defeated and the ball must be put in play. And as long as somebody takes that seriously, I don't care if the batting coach is Doug Flynn. Too bad Wee Willie "hit 'em where they ain't" Keeler isn't still around. Later

  3. I'm not sure how my almost-life-long Mets fandom could survive one disgusting closeup of Dusty Baker (in a Mets uniform) spitting sunflower seeds. And that image is like a camera magnet. It always fixes on him at his drooling worst. Later

Or is it the fault of the hitting coach when he can't help the hitters find their way out of the slump? But more specifically, when a guy has been fired twice as a hitting coach, who was the bright light who thought that three times might be a charm and hired him? http://metsdaddy.com/2019/05/mets-biggest-problem-is-chili-davis-not-mickey-callaway/http://metsdaddy.com/2019/05/mets-biggest-problem-is-chili-davis-not-mickey-callaway/ Later
  5. =G-Fafif post_id=10341 time=1558210962 user_id=55] Braves change their mind, bring back Blevins.
  6. Every pitcher they've faced lately has looked like Pablo Lopez, a true baseball immortal. Later
  7. I've seen graffiti on a subway car that deserves to stay around longer than Wilmer Font. Later
  8. Cano refused to talk to the media tonight? Really. When he did, he blamed the scoreboard: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/robinson-cano-mets-double-play-marlins-park-052659420.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/sports/robinson-cano-mets-double-play-marlins-park-052659420.html Later
  9. If every manager reacted like this to Angel Hernandez every time Hernandez tries to impose himself on a ballgame (as in every time he makes a call) maybe MLB would be forced to deal with him. Later
  10. With three names and one hyphen, Simeon Woods-Richardson could have been an actor on the Cosby Show. Without the hyphen, he could have been a serial killer (bowing in the direction of a long-ago thread). Later

Technically the Shop Around the Corner -- but you were far closer than I! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033045/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033045/ It was just on tv the other night. I had never seen it, and when I read the description of the movie, I immediately though of You've Got Mail. Later
  12. Johnny Weismuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. Later
  13. Todd Frazier's Mets career still has a pulse. Later
  14. Lefty Specialist wrote: Ramos runs the bases like a 1949 Packard with a balky transmission. HEY! I learned to drive on my dad's Packard, but it was a 1953, had an automatic transmission, and ran just fine. Later
  15. Sounds like a Dan Quisenberry pitch-alike. I'll take that. He'll be up in September (or as soon as Seth Lugo's arm falls off) and have a 1.14 WHIP in 16 games. Later
  16. Only one? Teacher's Pet is a comedy and Pajama Game is a musical. And I loved them both. Later
  17. Hopefully, he'll be pitching for some independent league team by the end of the year. Realistically, he will be starting for the Mets, every fifth day (unless the weather permits Mickey to mercifully skip his turn), averaging 4.1 innings, giving up 3 or 4 earned runs, and wearing out the bullpen. Later
  18. Edgy MD wrote: And he just hit his first professional State-side homer last night. He hits right handed and plays center field. Put him on the fast track. NOW! Later

  21. Edgy MD wrote: Someday, folks will forget how cool baseball used to be. "Why isn't he hitting to the side of the field where all the fielders are, Daddy?" Later
  22. I would have voted for Matlack, but I voted El Sid. I'm trying to keep the memory of the old style Baseball Digest format alive. And I think it looks like Seaver and Strawberry are the favorites here, no matter whether the pose is ordinary and oft seen. So I'll be the contrarian here. Later
  23. Until he gets his s**t together, I just hope they don't call it as often. Later
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Edgy MD wrote: I don't think that tickets sold should be a concern at all. And yes, of *course* it does. That's the major reason they signed him in the first place. Well, I was speaking of this notion of fans in other parks. I thought that was clear. As for the home park, a novelty guy with a .125 average gets old real fast. Syracuse is 11th of 14 teams in International League attendance, so I'm guessing central New York is unsurprisingly showing themselves to be not as crazy for the Florida Gators as Daytona Beach. So, if attendance is the goal, quality baseball may be a better draw. Edgy, you mis-edited the quotes. It was Seawolf who said that, in response to what I wrote. Later
