  1. =kcmets post_id=142543 time=1702134837 user_id=53] I heard earlier this morning Ohtani has signed a minor league deal the Toledo Mudhens. Huge, huge I tell ya!
  2. An old baseball adage is "hitting is timing, and if you can upset a batter's timing, you have a good chance of getting him out." If building a pen with different pitches and speeds does that, I'm all for it. Now, where's that lefty submarining knuckleballer? Later
  3. Yuk! With over five years of MLB service, López can't be optioned to the minor leagues. He'll almost certainly get a spot in the season-opening middle relief corps. I'm not getting a warm fuzzy about this guy. Later
  4. The MFYs will now face the challenge that they essentially traded all of their rotation depth and will need to add 2 arms from the outside now. Sure, Soto should do well there and obviously helps their offense. But in this case, this was more than just trading "depth" & prospects but also trading your # 4 SP (King) who was their 2nd best SP in 2023 all things considered. Later
  5. Vic Davalillo, 84. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/vic-davalillo-passes-away.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/12/vic-davalillo-passes-away.html Vic and Manny Mota teamed up for some serious pinch-hitting in the postseason. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI197710070.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PHI/PHI197710070.shtml Vic was one of my favorite players because he had been a pitcher and I wanted to see him do dual duty (Ohtani light) in the majors. But he never got the shot. Later
  6. NBC showing "Soto traded to NY in blockbuster deal" in the morning news crawl, so it must be official. No details. Later
  7. Three pitchers who pitched pretty well in the majors, a catcher better than Nido and a fifth guy with no ML experience. I'm not sure the Mets could match that offer. Later
  8. They don't have to keep Ammons on the major league roster. But it seemed like Slaten could have been a help this year. Later
  9. Righty reliever Justin Slaten was selected by the Mets in today's Rule V Draft. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=slaten000jushttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=slaten000jus Later
  10. I was trying to come up with a Gulf of Tonkin line but I couldn't. We'll have to wait for one of the newspaper headline guys to try. Later
  11. =Cowtipper post_id=142294 time=1701816815 user_id=166] I like this one. He was a big prospect back in the day and though he's never been a superstar, he's been a pretty solid hitter. Defensively he's skilled.
  12. =kcmets post_id=134570 time=1691776174 user_id=53] He's on Baseball Night in NY? I don't pay attention to names sometimes.
  13. Gotcha' Later
  14. He played 118 Games with Colorado. Are we talking about the same guy? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/i/iglesjo01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/i/iglesjo01.shtml Later
  15. Iglesias. The 33 year old veteran was signed to a minor league contract. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2023/12/05/shortstop-jos-iglesias-agrees-to-minor-league-contract-with-mets/71816119007/https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2023/12/05/shortstop-jos-iglesias-agrees-to-minor-league-contract-with-mets/71816119007/ Later
  16. A guy who has won two CY awards. Definitely should be in the conversation. Later
  17. For all the American players who went to Japan and Korea to jump start their careers in hopes of coming back to the majors, would you call them .... (wait for it) Feddie and the Dreamers? (ducking) Later
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Don't have a handle on any of the other four names involved, but I think we all know how this plays out: Kelenic finds himself by May and by July has agreed to an eight year deal buying out all his arb years plus the first few FA seasons for well under market rates. Four All Star games later he'll be a FA in his early 30s as the Braves won't resign him. After that, the Mets will sign him to a six year deal, he'll suck the first year, be injured for the second, be suspended for PEDs in the third then the Mets will pay him to play somewhere else for the remainder (prolly SEA). He'll be part of a World Championship team for SEA at age 38 and Heyman declares SEA the winner of the original deal. I'll take the under. Later
  19. A Boy Named Seo wrote: so maybe Lee would work fine as an extra outfielder, defensive sub, pinch-hitter with a great eye. Or, his OBP and contact skills will translate and he will be another Ichiro. Who knows? Later
  20. I'm getting antsy, which happens every year in the weeks leading up to the Winter Meetings. While they should be going for players (and pitchers) who can create wins above replacement, they seem to have been concentrating on replacement. (OK, maybe not Wendle) And those roster spots are filling up. Later
  21. You, sir, just made a logical argument for why they're pissed. Later
  22. Andre Dawson wants to change his HOF cap, and my friends in Canada are pissed. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/article-dawsons-request-to-change-expos-cap-on-hall-plaque-shot-in-the-gut/https://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/article-dawsons-request-to-change-expos-cap-on-hall-plaque-shot-in-the-gut/ Later
  23. Not exactly a splash. But I hope it doesn't turn out to be a splat. Later
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Wait — is Vladdy's sister romantically linked to Shohei Ohtani? I'll check with Yenta the Matchmaker and get back to you. Later
  25. Your divisions didn't look quite right. But Atlanta , from the map I saw, seems to be to the West of both Toronto and Pittsburgh. So it would belong in your central division. I'd put Las Vegas and Vancouver in the West instead of the two Texas teams because of their histories of minor league (AAA) ball. Later
