  1. If I look at my watch during a movie, it is too long. While I liked it, I looked at my watch several times during the Revenant. I never looked at my watch during Oppenheimer. Later
  2. He's 29 years old. They're paying him for his bat speed, not his foot speed. Length of contract in the 7-8 year range shouldn't be an issue. I thought of Pujols and Miggy and David Ortiz before reading those articles and anticipate a similar career path for Pete. (position -> DH) Sign him. Later
  3. I noticed something when reading articles about him. They refer to him as either Bud or Derrel McKinley, never just Derrel. I thought the use of the middle name was either a Southern thing or reserved for serial killers. He was neither, and it wasn't as though we would have confused him with another Derrel Harrelson. 4. Edgy MD wrote: He's the guy who cost Jeter Downs his spot on the roster. Then, fie on him. Every team needs a Jet ...... (sorry, I can't even bring myself to finish that sentence as a joke) Later
  5. I'm already impressed with Starling Fernandez. He has the ability to levitate his cap above his head. Later
  6. The anti-wokers may be upset that SI covers women's sports a lot. I don't know because I haven't read it for years. Later
  7. =G-Fafif post_id=144977 time=1705126617 user_id=55] Diego Castillo DFA'd to clear space for Sean Manaea.
  8. A long, long time ago I can still remember how those pictures made me smile. And I knew if I had my chance That I could dream about that blonde from France. And maybe I'd be happy for a while But February made me shiver in anticipation 'till they'd deliver Bathing beauties to my doorstep I couldn't take one more step. So I can't remember if I cried When I read about the end of that ride But something touched me deep inside The day that S.I. died [Chorus] So, bye-bye, I will miss my S.I. Bathing beauties in bikinis under vibrant blue skies. Disappointed boys'll be drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin', "This'll be the day the mag died This'll be the day the mag died" Later
  9. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=145430 time=1705694547 user_id=68] Might as well. SI's been essentially dead and an embarrassment for years now. Many of its online pieces read like they've been written by, no exaggeration, 10 year olds. What a fall. I guess sports print media and journalism really is dying.
  10. The entire Sports Illustrated staff has been fired. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/sports-illustrated-entire-staff-told-181704337.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/sports-illustrated-entire-staff-told-181704337.html NY Post says it, too: https://nypost.com/2024/01/19/sports/sports-illustrateds-entire-staff-told-they-are-getting-laid-off/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=nypost_sports&fbclid=IwAR0AORgykoZFal3ExLOqw_WPgGC278szzZo10h0xCb6LK23k7e59JTZM820https://nypost.com/2024/01/19/sports/sports-illustrateds-entire-staff-told-they-are-getting-laid-off/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=nypost_sports&fbclid=IwAR0AORgykoZFal3ExLOqw_WPgGC278szzZo10h0xCb6LK23k7e59JTZM820 Later
  11. =stevejrogers post_id=145273 time=1705518074 user_id=57] Dates have been announced Dwight Gooden #16 April 14th Sunday vs the Royals Darryl Strawberry #18 June 1st Saturday vs the Diamondbacks
  12. When is the last day for voting? The announcement is in late January. Last year, 389 ballots were cast. Do we know how many have been cast so far this year? Are they all going to be made public? Later
  13. As per SNY, The Mets have traded outfielder Cooper Hummel to the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations, the team announced Tuesday. Hummel was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners last October but was designated for assignment last week. Later
  14. 4. I was traded to the Mets And they used me as a starter I did bad and realized Relieving can't be harder So they used me as a reliever For just a few games Before they shipped me off For a minor league no name I eventually had success Believe this, why can't ya? The success I found Came with Atlanta I didn't see anyone get that one - sounds like Buzz Capra, but Buzz was drafted by the Mets Later
  15. I had read that the Pipeline report is based on talent/ability. (The other service that lists these things is Baseball America. But they rank them in bonus dollar amount order.) I take these as an omen of good things to come. Later
  16. Lefty Specialist wrote: I'm guessing Stearns is going for 'low-risk, high quantity' this offseason. As Blackstreet would say, he 's trying to "get game by the pound". Later
  17. 18. Bring back the BOC for that guy. Good find. Later
  19. The Mets have signed lefty Reliever Danny Young to a minor league/ invite to spring training deal. https://sny.tv/articles/mets-signing-reliever-danny-young-minor-league-deal-invite-spring-training?fbclid=IwAR1QQ552ExqTRIzINL15-X6c8SqPotH1a9zVEdwXSDs8lpJYpH3323N2msUhttps://sny.tv/articles/mets-signing-reliever-danny-young-minor-league-deal-invite-spring-training?fbclid=IwAR1QQ552ExqTRIzINL15-X6c8SqPotH1a9zVEdwXSDs8lpJYpH3323N2msU Those numbers look good to me. 20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: "Midwest Area Code" is a strange goal. Not a goal. It was my (obviously bad) attempt at a humorous number. Later
  21. And after that? It would be a refreshing change if they signed a pitcher with a career ERA lower than a mid-west area code. Later
  22. he hit just seven HR's in a 16 year career -- less than one HR every two years. And he would respond: "How many HR's did you hit in the majors?" His Baseball Digest Rookie Report said he had "Good Power for a shortstop". I still chuckle at that and remember to take all scouting reports with a grain of salt. Later
  23. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: the retiring numbers game, it was a slippery slope. The fans want to see it but the truth is the Mets don't have enough number-retirement worthy guys to meet the demand. Sad, but true. Later
  24. I liked him from the time I read about him in the Baseball Digest Rookie Reports. Those were the days when a "strong up the middle" team had great defense at shortstop. And Buddy delivered. RIP Later
  25. The thread title is better than the pitcher. Later
