  1. I've been thinking about Chili Davis a lot this year in part because for whatever reason this might be one of the best-hitting Mets teams ever, and because he was a guy I didn't really appreciate in his time as a player. That has much to do with him being a West Coast/American League and DH kinda guy--generally not the kids of guys I dig. But it absolutely blew my mind to have learned he hit 350 home runs in his career. I think if you asked me to guess, I'd have said, like, 129. That's also because I didn't really realize he was an MLB ballplayer for 19 years. Pretty interesting bio here: https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/f842dfbdhttps://sabr.org/bioproj/person/f842dfbd tl/dr: born in jamacia, moved to US at age 11, competed against Strawberry in HS, family whupped him with shoes, belts and automobile parts, apparent philosophical student of former Met hitting coach Tom McCraw.
  2. Screw the statement, it's practically crucial.
  3. Gingergaard. That's gold, Jerry
  4. Yes, MLB and by extension the Mets, very concerned that the average age of their fan is something like 52, fat, and white. I don't know where they got that impression

  6. Twins turn their 2nd triple play in 2 weeks in that Braves game
  7. About time we inflicted the kind of relentless bullpen damage so often visited upon us
  8. McNeil!!!! Get the fucking brooms out
  9. Altherr rrams one into the LF corrnerr
  10. This year's Curtis Granderson Sucks thread
  11. I'll bet Rickey was under-ranked relative to teammates in his good year, where as good as he was he didn't play everyday; whereas Alomar had fewer guys to outshine in his years and played almost every day. I will also bet Rickey didn't score at all in his last year whereas Alomar did
  12. I also speculated that independently of Gary. Hechavarria is a pretty good guy to have on the team, even though his bat has slowed some. Don;t give up a thing on D when he's at 3B, 2B or SS. I wanna like Guillorme and he's aight in a pinch but for a 5 or 6 week injury he's not the right guy.
  13. Had a good time with the Lunchpail despite nearly missing 1st pitch as 7 Train was shut down after running over a guy. E to the 7, local, we made it. Good crowd. Our section up top loaded with teens from Floral Park drinking and smoking among the top rows, they eventually caught the attention of the security force and got thrown out or asked to leave. Wondered why Yamamoto wasn't there when this thread assured me he would, but the top half of the lineup did their job. The bottom end, like the top of our section largely out of it and not participating. Guillotines late double may save him. Wheeler not particularly great but got the Ks when he needed them, the DPs when he needed them, and damn near a CG shutout despite what... 5 or 6 innings beginning with a walk or hit. Did not think Ramos got enough to leave the yard, only his body language said so. McNeil is still incredible. Alonso still a small worry for me, 2 hits and all. Frazier and Alonso made a big league play. Concessions slow tonight, tried the cheese steak for the first time and wasn't awful. Craft beer stands all locked down.
  14. Giants designated Joe Panik for assignment. Plays the infield Veteran Leadership ™ From the NYC area originally Cheap Bats L checks all the boxes for the Mets right now, if you can ignore the fact he hasn't been very good for the last 2 years
  15. I guess I'm a little disappointed its come down to these 2. I thought the whacky paperclip arm Gooden that got trampled in an earlier showdown was a better shot. He doesn't look as electric in this pic as he actually looked irl. \ The craziest thing about the Stengel shot is that in the full length centerfold, you discover he's wearing ROOS
  16. I think at some level they look at Dilson's numbers just like me and somehow know he's on the juice. If they can be convinced he won't get caught he prolly deserves a trip to NYC. Still just 25 years old.
  17. I'd include Matz's CG among the random acts of greatness, since he has since returned to being Matz. But Syndergaard has been much more consistent, and that's made a difference. 1 game at a time and all, but this'll come down to the 21 times we play ATL, PHI and WAS. Atlanta: 3 there, 6 here. They've won 6 of the first 10. Washington: 6 there. We're 8-5 vs them so far. Philly: 3 there, 3 here. We are a totally unacceptable 4-9 vs them so far.
  18. Tuesday Night Mets Club will be in 509 only Bernie Sanders can't be there tonight
  19. Sometimes 3 solo homers are what you need
  20. Scooter and the Big Man break this city in half, Gary says
