Kay could been a bullpen piece for next year, I guess, but we'd need more starters too. In the end like Greg I liked having the year matter again but just no room for error when you come out of the gate as arrogantly and unprepared as the 2019 Mets did.

Here's a question: was the reSHaMation of the roster affected in the second half of the year a good thing? It was fun to get back into things, Fred sold more tickets, and Stroman I suppose is worth having next season. But given the ultimate miss, would the Mets have been better off long-term to have sold at the deadline?

I'm okay with Kooz on merit, even if his merit is nearly as meritorious as Seaver's and was not what we'd believed to have met the standards for such an honor until now, but it bothers me that they waited 40 years after they booted him to acknowledge it, and fear that if they're doing this "for the fans" there will be no end to it. We'll have gone from having the highest standards, relatively, to the lowest, which will also make the Mets look bad in the realm of public opinion in a different way as the truth is there have been so few retire-worthy players in their employ. I guess my other concern with Kooz is whether they also then wanna go naming Harrelson and Grote and Jones. And Staub. Wright deserves it. Set a bunch of team records, was universally admired by the club, its fans, and baseball overall, never wore another uni. From there you need to go to Hernandez, Strawberry and Gooden but they all have issues. Keith I think overcomes his non-Met years and snowy past by also becoming as distinct in the booth as he was on the field, winning over generations of new Met fans. Just on baseball, his accomplishments as a Met would open to any number of his teammates. Strawberry and Gooden I could be convinced of sooner than Carter for sure but fine if not. I'm one of those assholes who never really warmed to Beltran. I liked him, I acknowledge how good he was, but his Mets career had considerable bad times for him and the team and is just kinda wobbly. I couldn't tell you whether Beltran would want the honor in fact.

Alonso's problem on D is that he too often makes bad decisions of where to go--chasing the ball to the hole or covering, etc. But we can live with that. As always a super CF flychaser who can also hit would be a nice addition. Rosey made too many careless plays early this year and may not ever be a top-tier D SS but I'll go out on a limb and say IRL he's probably average by Eyewitness Defense. There is nobody coming to take his job yet, and his hitting is becoming better than average. Would be nice to supplant Cano if only for the offense. Yeah I dunno how we get better. maybe they trade JDD to an AL team for a motherfucker who can hit and field.

My strategy is to take this streak straight into 2020. I think it will work out

Maybe it shoulda but that's not the way they'd done things all these years. One the one hand they say it was a recommendation from the HoF committee and on another Wilpon's like the fans really like this. He made no secret that they're about to unleash a firehose of retired numbers so whatever "honor" Kooz is getting is to be watered down by the likes of Carter which is why high standards beat low ones.

She probably liked it more than me, as did a lot of critics, apparently.
