  1. My tour of the Mets minor league stadiums, kinda, continues with Spring Training action this Saturday vs the Nats and Sunday vs the Fish
  2. Get ceetar working on the archives! Wanted to make an Untappd account for the pod, with checkins back dated to the date of the episode uploads!
  3. Billy Wagner will be the latest ex-Met to get a number retired by a franchise that isn’t the Mets this August in Houston. Part of a weekend celebration for his Cooperstown induction, and I believe a yet to be announced Astro Hall of Fame 2025 Class.
  4. I suspect an Astro. I was hoping that Sabathia would go in with Cleveland's logos, but he actually spent more time in the Bronx and I'm not sure he never wore a Cleveland cap with the C.
  5. If he wasn’t a such a noted figure in baseball/NYC baseball history, I’d wager Bobby Valentine’s father-in-law’s passing would have been noted in the 2016 version of this thread!
  6. KC Chief QB’s maternal Grandfather = Ex-99-00 Met reliever’s father-in-law.
  7. Pat Mahomes’ father-in-law was admitted into hospice care https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/patrick-mahomes-grandfather-is-in-hospice-says-mom-randi-mahomes/
  8. There is a story about that happening to David Wells the morning of his perfect game. But that could have been the massive hangover he was dealing with. Then again the story includes him and Jimmy Fallon just drinking the night away at Saturday Night Live’s season finale afterparty hours earlier. One problem, SNL’s finale that season, the 23rd, aired a week earlier, 5/9/1998, while Wells’ perfecto was on 5/17/1998. I supppse I could give the faulty narrator credit for the perfect game happening on a Sunday though In any event, obviously not in Koufax’s case when it comes to major inebriation the previous day, I think most of those stories come from distracted hurlers forgetting the plan, as well coaches/managers projecting the idea that rotations were meaningless, and they could have had the same guy start games in a row if they wanted to. So I’ve taken that notion about not telling a pitcher they were starting until that day, with a ton of salt grains
  9. Checking out the Mets vs the Durham Bulls (where’s Nuke & Crash!?) on Wednesday Aug 21st.
  10. Seeing the Ponies rumble with the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Tuesday, August 20th.
  11. Should be there a week from Monday for the start of the Independence Day Week festivities in the Capital. No giveaways that day though 🤷🏻‍♂️
  12. I’m carded at Citi just about all the time. It’s probably pretty much a rule to card every one at sporting arenas. Funny story, I inadvertently narc’d a Citi vendor for selling a little too early on a Sunday because I told an alcohol control supervisor that the kid did ask for my ID before pouring the beer!
  13. Sadly the craft brewery in the parking garage literally closed the days I was out there in 2022…doesn’t look like anything has taken over the space (next door to a Subway, so it was meant for retail setups), nor does it seem the brewery got back into the craft beer game (ie contract distribution only) in the ensuing time. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Beer hall is still rocking, they were in midst of moving their home base to the downtown district, I forget where they were moving from though but now they are close to the arena where the Heat play in. Not sure if I’ll get over there as mostly I’ll be hitting up Wynwood and South Beach as well as the game.
  14. Heading back for the Sunday July 21st game.
  15. Sounds like a Jon Weissman way of doing things.
  16. It's a bit surprising that for the amount of time I was either in Boston proper, or the general New England area between 1992 and 1999, that I never made it inside that venerable ballpark. Now, a few decades after the Red Sox have captured a few World Titles and the area around Fenway was become a Wrigleyville like extravaganza, which is now complete with a small music hall venue in a former garage connected to the stadium on the corner of Lansdowne and Ipswich Street that opened last year. I'm finally getting to be inside of it on Saturday for the FOX afternoon game.
  17. Currently enjoying the aggressively warm Phoenix dry heat and gearing up for Tuesday's Mets-DBacks action
  18. Just did a surface Google search for a Floridian college with “Stone” in the name. Did come up with what looks like a trade school in Miami, but might be too small for the sake of a “Stony Brook!? You mean…?” bit There is a mini beer fest going on before the Saturday game. A craft brewery has a beer hall inside the stadium proper, and they have an American style lager named Marlin Lager. And there is a craft brewery in a parking garage complex across the street. Should have a thing or two about all three for Mets On Tap
  19. Heading down to Miami to catch two of the Mets games later in the month.
  20. Let's see, closed, as Cooter's, in 1991… Address 5164 Richmond which is in an area near a strip mall retail complex called Galleria, and the near by Westin was where the Mets stayed back in that time… Right now Google Maps is telling me the site was around Mediterranean restaurant called Dimassi's which address is 5160, next higher storefront though appears to be the building off to its right, which is a Chipotle and a MOD Pizza, address 5174 Richmond.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Is Cooter's now a Scores? I feel ike everything is going Scoresward. Nope, just said the wrong name. I'll see if I can quickly go through a rabbit hole to see what's there now, etc…
  22. Going to be doing a week long Austin-Houston trip in mid July, and looking at least at the Friday the 16th game vs Oakland (still weird thinking that's a divisional matchup). Was in Houston last July, but the ‘Stros were on the road. Did get a cheapie tour (just the HOF corridor, a bullpen level party suite and the field), and my own “walk around the circumference of the stadium” tour. Also checked out Craig Biggio's restaurant in a hotel nearby and across from the convention center. Part of me wished I had the time last year, and have the time this coming year to check out the old Dome and where that nightclub Scores where several Mets had that scuffle with cops back in the summer of ‘86. But both are about a 20 minute drive from where I was supposed to be with the crew I was with, and will be, and both weren't, and won't, indulge me in honoring 1986 Met history and infamy! 🤷🏻‍♂️
  23. =Ceetar post_id=36953 time=1589743072 user_id=102] And also why did this need to take place in the early 20th century? Joaquin Phoenix is 45. I don't know what age Joker was supposed to be but that seems about right. That means Joker, in the future when Batman is Batman, is like a 60ish year old man? That doesn't really seem to track.
  24. I don't know if they've even called him "Hawkeye" in the movies! It's always "Barnes." But he's our guy and we're sticking with him! Plus, his kids like baseball. In Avengers, before he and Selvig are taken by Loki, he's hanging out in the rafters and gets jokingly referred to as “Hawkeye.” By the same token, Avengers I think is the only time Natasha Romanova gets referred to as “Black Widow.” During her “interrogation” scene when Agent Coulson calls her.
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: If this is a hit, and I figure it could be, I think rock biopics could become next superhero thing. Greg Renoff's book VAN HALEN RISING is dying to be a movie just like this, you've got a larger-than-life charasmatic lead singer, in conflict with the boy genius guitarist and his hard-drinking brother, partying hearty in the late 70s in sunny California, and a boombastic soundtrack. Granted they aren’t “rock” but I thought this continues the Walk The Line/Ray era of the music artist bio pic?
