  1. Does he even rate being the best SS to ever play against us on the All Opponents Team? Surely an Ozzie Smith, Barry Larkin, Davey Concepcion or Larry Bowa would rank higher?
  2. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Jon Niese looks to pick up the series win as the nation looks on! ROGERS! We're looking to close out a series win against the Evil Empire right in their unholy den of evil, with the aura of St. Derek the Rangeless hovering right there in the building, and you're starting a potentially epic IGT with: Jon Niese looks to pick up the series win as the nation looks on! Come on, man! Bring your A Game! You need something like: Jon Neise, representing pretty much all that is good in life, takes the hill against the soulless thugs who have harmed much of our very existence on a game televised nationally so even people in Michigan get the chance to watch. Niese, fresh from being run out of Friday's game simply for exercising his First Amendment right to free speech, will face a charmless lineup led by a player so vile, his own team practically begged to have him get suspended for use of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs for an entire season. Considering that the Yankees as a team generally look the other way when needle pierces flesh -- hell, they're retiring the number of a confessed abuser this year -- ARod must be really, really bad to have around. Luckily Niese is backed by an cast of heroes that are so good, even their injury replacements step up and save the day. And we got more of them in Vegas, too, just waiting to take a stand for America. We're so good that we can reel off 11-game winning streaks even when our All-Star second baseman has apparently completely forgotten how to play the game. A Game, Rogers. LOL! You are right, that's the last time I'll attempt to toss up an IGT via a mobile device! Should also add that this will be done as the Met faithful brave the insufferable ESPN broadcast team, whom most likely will be discussing past history more so than present day foibles of the home team.

  4. I like these 4pm Saturday starts. Right now planning on watching the game with a Meetup.com Mets fan group at Whiskey Rebel, 129 Lexington Ave between 28th and 29th in midtown Manhattan. Just dust off, get off the mat and start a brand new streak guys!
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Steve, you left out them issuing as press release for a scoreboard upgrade. I'm on my way home. Got to get to work on the Superman blog. *chuckle* Well played. To be fair, as I said before, Breuer's schtick is of the bitter variety, I'm sure the Seinfelds of MLBS-dom will be out to counter his "it hurts to be a fan of this team" narrative!
  6. Edgy MD wrote: There's nothing obnoxious about that slogan. The worst time to be a Mets fan is any time another Mets fan starts to go on about his alleged suffering. What a waste. With the Ponzi scheme and the complictness of the Wilpons, even after it caused the team to be cash strapped, EVERY problem with the stadium (which you even agree with), PR nightmares (with a clueless PR and legal consuel guy), all the way to this winter with the office harrassment and unfair termination suit the Mets have never earned the right to be a mainstream punchline than they have been for 8, 7 years. Never mind the '07 and '08 collapses.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: What a load of crap. 2006 was great. I "revere" it a lot more than I do 1993, for example. Or 2003. The year was great, I was referring to the banner, and the obnoxious, presumptuous slogan (though less tone deaf than "Your Season Has Come" the next year, that led to "Your Postseason Has Come" that we're still waiting for) being part of an era in Met history that probably is the least regarded, by fans anyway, successful time frame in team history. Never mind it led to probably the worst time to be a Met fan since in just about every aspect.
  8. LOL, that slogan just brings up bad memories from a rather painful era for Met fans, including me. Most likely the least revered time period in Met history, one that hopefully has concluded.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, I'M the one who can't stand seeing the Mets in a positive light. You stick with that story. LOL, I mean you are being very territorial about this sort of thing.
  10. 6vm0xl2lYNA Okay, you won't like this one in terms of comparison (but then again his schtick could be as a bitter comic), but it is from 2011: http://metspolice.com/2011/08/10/jim-breuer-explains-mets-fans-to-the-rest-of-the-world/ Another from 2009: http://huggingharoldreynolds.blogspot.com/2009/07/jim-breuer-puts-being-mets-fan-into.html?m=1
  11. Edge, you remind me of a comic book blogger and podcaster whom is a huge Superman fan, yet will look down upon or question the legitimacy of any Big Shot who admits to being a Superman Lovin' Big Shot, especially if they've only like one specific era or medium for the character. Almost like you can't handle the Mets being seen in a positive light in a non-fictional manner because it could be a case of a bandwagon jumper.
  12. Evidently Blondie's on West 79th, between Broadway and Amsterdam is, according to a couple of "Met Friendly Bar" lists I could find on Google. Though, there is nothing that I could see that would suggest it the last few times I've been in there. Donovan's in Woodside is a haven that I've seen social media Met faithful hit up either as a pre-game or post-game, r any old time, spot in connection with a Met game
  13. Love to add frequent spot for GKR and FaFiF events, Foley's, but they seem to be all encompassing with baseball, specifically with a NYC bias though.
  14. Couldn't find anything really defined as a hub like this as currently constituted, or at least one that isn't tied to some conglomorate like SB, Fansided, ESPN, MLB, etc so probably going to scrap that part of this "nugget" for the Bravos as I'm sure stuff can be found following the links provided: Podcast Atlanta Baseball Talk A podcast for the Twitter generation: Braves Win! Braves Win! As part of the Seamheads Podcasting Network, there is Braves Banter. FWIW, I'm slightly worried about the insanity I may be looking at for the Philly series...assuming the crap that was lurking around one of their main boards that made the MoFo look like the GSS is still in operation!
  15. To be fair, Spahn has a distinction within the Brave franchise as a member of their HOF, and #21 is retired (to say nothing of his standing as the greatest Brave pitcher ever, or at least second if you want to debate him vs. Maddux). I'd imagine you aren't suggesting a different black band (or ANYTHING) for every passing of a member of a franchise, no matter how "insignificant" their role was during a year (and there are often ones for trainers, clubhouse personnel, announcers, etc)? Other wise a team would be wearing quite a few by the time the season wrapped up.
  16. 18. seawolf17 wrote: Remember that guy who posted all those wrestling threads? Goodness, those were hilarious. There is a wrestling fan with supposed "connections" to the writing staff of the WWE on Reddit that will often spoil results of major events, or post "leaked information" with "MetsFan" as part of his/her handle...MAYBE ITS THE SAME GUY!? LOL!

  20. These are the three WWWF/WWF cards that happened at Shea, all between 1972 and 1980. The 1980 one can be seen in its entirety, if one so desired. I realize this isn't the point of this thread, but can everybody who writes ledes like this -- even if or especially if your shtick is Long Suffering Mets Fan -- be reassigned to lacrosse? (No offense to any lacrosse fans out there.) I even had fun during Opening Day, 2003. You know - 15-2, bitter cold... yup, still had fun... My philosophy whenever doing something that involves entertainment or escapism from something I'm being paid to do is always have fun! Hell, even when working, no matter how soul crushing and hard the job might be, its a good philosophy to have!
  22. Also Terry's look each year kind of tells the story of his reign as Met manager! Alright, work in progress okay, lets get to work! Not as easy as I thought, but we're keeping our heads above water. Just stay positive, serenity now! WAIT! WHAT! No Harvey? FUCK! What AM I still doing around here?
