Don't forget, not that they'll let you, that legend has it that Doubleday got the idea after listening to Mike & The Mad Dog "suggest" that the Mets go after Piazza.
  2. Someone finds the Ceetar account password, and then trolls the forum with porn spam, insulting posts about other posters, etc. Then gets your account shut down by the admins are you going to say "that wasn't a hack job" just because you don't like the definition of the word?
  3. What would you'd like to call it then? And this isn't THAT particular situation, but it has been used to describe such a situation.
  4. Ceetar wrote: I"m not arguing legality anyway, I'm arguing the meaning of the word 'hack'. So we're into the semantics of the word hack? Then what would you call it then? I've seen people use that word to describe it when a co-worker, or family member uses their account on an open computer to embarrass and even troll them in some fashion on whatever board or social network site, etc that happens to be open.
  5. Ceetar wrote: it's not hacking. using passwords to access data on databases is not hacking. Do I hack the CPF every time I log in? If you are logging into an account you didn't create without their consent (or even using it when someone leaves the account open on a computer), then yes, that is hacking. If you created an OptimisticMetFan account or your handle as your real name, that isn't hacking.
  6. Ceetar wrote: It amuses me that the way they 'hacked' them was that Luhnow used the same passwords he used with the Cardinals. I'm not even sure that counts as hacking. It's almost like permissible access. If we live together, and you move out to a new place and put a lock on the door so that you don't have to use a different key to get in, if I enter that house with my key, is it really trespassing? If there is no discernible reason for you to be there, or lack of viable consent (even a nebulous open invitation and/or letting your ex-roomie know you are there when he/she isn't there at the time), then yeah, that is pretty much trespassing and very shady behavior.

When you post for a call to vote it should hit the walls & feeds of all those friended by the CPF on fb. I bet there are other old fans who fondly remember the Schaefer Met Player Of The Game. Maybe they'll get involved. You would have to be loud about it initially, to get folks attention. I hate to see this go away. Create a Twitter # for Schaefer voting? Maybe open a space on Redditt? Maybe a Tumblr site for repostings? Or whatever is going to replace Facebook?
  8. Once was called The Japanese Greg Maddux. Speaking of guys way over the top overhyped by then current skippers, Bill Pecota.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: One of Whitey Herzog's cruel but smart rules was that you don't want to keep reserves around too long, because if they get comfortable in their role, they lose the drive that gives them the only edge they have. He has a point. And it applies to Neiuwenhuis too. Once they grow a look-at-me beard, move on. Or at least bring in some terrifying competition. Jose Oquendo, granted he outlasted Whitey in Saint Louis, would be an exception to that said rule though. And Niewenheius was recently designated for assignment by the Angels as well. This also can apply to non-closers or even the 8th inning setup guy in the pen. You get geared to the transient lifestyle of the position, and/or prove why you aren't considered for an every day role (either as a starter/platoon/closer/etc).
  10. Per a uni listing of SD Pads on B-R, Sam Perlozzo, 1979.
  11. seawolf17 wrote: In 1988, Topps thought Marvell Wynne, coming off a season where he was a pinch-hitter (only started 40 games) and hit .250, was worthy of a box bottom card? I have zero recollection of this. Also, Marvell Wynne was definitely never a Met. IIRC, those were season highlights cards, hence Wynne being used... Quick trip to the Trading Card Database, and yup.
  12. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: What's the deal with all these fake cards like this? I'd imagine they are created by users of Out of the Park Developments as images for players without cards.
  13. The 7 Line drew the ire of Star Trek fans with a mock up shirt for "Captain Kirk" featuring Spock's "Live Long and Prosper" hand gesture. Did NOT go over well, also a fine example of the annoying thing of a moniker given to a player by the media/or other outlet, instead of something organically given over time.
  14. Melvin Mora to be inducted in the Orioles' Hall of Fame this summer
  15. Dave Laroche not a lot of Metly connection there, outside of coaching the Cyclones. Pretty sure he was on a mid-1990s coaching staff... OE: I mean two early 1990s season staffs! 1992-1993 http://ultimatemets.com/profile.php?PlayerCode=6605

  17. TradingCardDB.com shows a 1966 postcard set with Throneberry as an Oriole. Also in 1991 the Orioles had one of those massive "All-Time Roster" stadium giveaway sets
  18. Getting Wiggy with it as a Birdie! OE: Found a Samuel card, but its a coaches card, not as skipper:

[fimg=600]http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/orioles-prog1.jpg[/fimg] Sid was part of the welcoming committee to greet me on my first visit to Camden Yards 21 years ago last week. And only one of them, Ratty Palmeroid, were around when the O's made their back-to-back postseason trips 19 and 18 years ago respectively this coming October! El Sid lasted roughly a season and a half, it appears (via B-R.com) that it was an injury plaque one, and he signed with Philly in July of '95. Sabo lasted the one year, it was a one-year FA deal, and signed with the White Sox that winter, and ditto for Smith as he signed with the Angels in the offseason.
  20. LOL, roids, red juice or not, one would think top 4 all-time and going past a NY icon, as well as, in many eyes, the current greatest living ballplayer, constitutes a "marketable milestone." But yeah, the Yankees can suddenly go full on every other sports league when it comes to milestone numbers and treat them as if they aren't worthy of anything beyond a brief mention in their media package for the game notes.
  21. His traveling partner Buddy?

  23. Edgy MD wrote: To be slightly fair, when I use "cool and hip," please let me know. No one said you did. My point is that there is evidence of that textual color scheme in Met uniforms going back to the early 1980s, most likely because the home BP/ST blue unis since the introduction of a blue top are full orange, as opposed to the black which was introduced due to marketing strategies that pro teams were doing in the 1990s.
  24. To be slightly fair, the silver/gray text has been a part of any road blues the Mets have worn either in the regular season or in Spring Training going back to the early 1980s, well for the most part as it looks like 1982 they sported an all blue top with an NY on the left chest and uni number on the right. Point being, it isn't a fad that happened because it was seen as "cool and hip" by marketers like the black was when it was introduced.
