This is the organization that had local insurance salesmen peel off the descending games left markers off of the Shea Stadium outfield wall during its final season because it was too fucking cheap to fly In the Hobie Landriths and Cleon Joneses. And that was before Madoff so they couldn't use their own willfulness to invest in a scam as an excuse, either. Be fair in that case, Cleon Jones has always been part of officially organized Met celebrations.

Essentially being 2019’s Adrian Gonzalez or Jose Bautista! *rolls eyes* Except I'd rather have Beltre than Gonzalez, Bautista, OR Todd Frazier, for what it's worth. Agreed!

Greg Renoff's book VAN HALEN RISING is dying to be a movie just like this, you've got a larger-than-life charasmatic lead singer, in conflict with the boy genius guitarist and his hard-drinking brother, partying hearty in the late 70s in sunny California, and a boombastic soundtrack. Granted they aren’t “rock” but I thought this continues the Walk The Line/Ray era of the music artist bio pic?

And all this comes as I was just thinking the other day how it's been a couple of years since I've seen Mays, seven years older than McCovey, anywhere in public. Mays was at the Bonds number retirement this summer.

  8. Geez, my “He’s our Don Mattingly” was way too on the nose as it turned out!
  9. Centerfield wrote: The Dodgers are not bad either. *13 winning seasons *8 seasons of 90 wins or more *9 Division Titles *10 Playoff appearances *2 National League Championships Sustained success. Talk about "Wait 'till Next Year" type of agita! (sorry MFS62) Lack of rings and MFY fan douchbaggery statements (Anything less than WS championship is an unsuccessful season, 27 rings, etc) aside, it is hard to see how the Dodger fan experience in the last 15 years has been on the same level, or worse, than it has been for Met fans in the same time frame.
  10. Centerfield wrote: And now the 4 year old Red Sox fan who wondered if they would ever win one in his lifetime can die in peace. I was texting with my Sox fan buddy last night. He was telling me how he was surprisingly relaxed watching last night. I said it's easy when your team is up 3-1. It then occurred to me, I'm 43 years old. During my lifetime, the Mets have never held a series lead in the World Series. In '86, they never led. (I don't think winning counts as leading) The Mets have never held a 1-0 WS lead either.

  12. Edgy MD wrote: The Mets deployed 56 players in 2018, the most in their long history. Some ground it out through the whole year, while not a few others had more of an ephemeral Mets season, appearing out of the midst and then dissolving like Brigadoon. It's like the world conspired so you never had a chance to get to know them at all. No idea if its the record for their franchise history, or for an eventual postseason participant, but the NL East Champion Braves deployed 58 different players!
  13. I must of been a bit of a Mush for Bruce, projecting that his 300th homer was to come this year when I did that "Mets in the 300 Home Run Club" in the Club Quiz thread in the beginning of the season! He finished 2018 at 286 (started the year at 277), tied for 14th among active players with Justin Upton (top 12 are in the 300 Club). Tell me something new to know about David Wright.
  14. FWIW There is a BIG difference between 98-74 108-54 92-70 100-60 or 87-75 if you want to start with the 108-54 year and 90-72 and 87-75 being sandwiched in-between 8 seasons of 70 to 79 wins. You can’t say that the fan experience during the former was the same as the latter. Ditto with this four year run 88-74 97-66 94-68 82-80, which you could drop in favor of tacking on another 88-74 year at the front end.
  15. d'Kong76 wrote: Interrupting with two cents here... I know technically losing the one-game 'playoff' is making the post-season but c'mon does anyone really feeling like it's making the playoffs? It's artificial nonsense. I had a card collecting and program collecting hobby project that included every team that made the postseason, MFYs included, and I included play-in games. At no point, even if the Reds had won in 1999, would I’ve considered the losers true “Postseason Teams” (sorry MFS62, ‘51 Dodgers aren’t a true posteason squad), but clearly was part of the October stories that I was collecting. That being said, while the Wild Card Game is an official postseason playoff game, the feeling is still the same. Almost as if it was a “Play-In/Tie Breaker Game” to a slot in the actual postseason.
  16. metirish wrote: Text conversation with two MFY loving friends Me - hey charlie might be time for you to warm up , CC looks shot, getting hit hard" CHarlie - Typical Mets fan....we still have 26 more wins than you Me - it's banter, fucking relax ( I knew you would give me a history lesson, never fails" God, what assholes 26? He meant 25 right? Also 100-77 is 23, so if that was his angle, he is still laughably off on the math!
  17. HahnSolo wrote: Remember earlier this season when some media and Yankee fans thought Severino was the best pitcher in New York? Yeah that was cute. Ditto that brief moment where Gary Sanchez was considered by them on Mike Piazza’s level!

  19. Frayed Knot wrote: Yeah, that wasn't good. So, instead, let's talk about how the story is already forming to portray Judge as this generation's Jeter (he's clutch, he's a true Yanqui) while Stanton is being cast in the part of Alex Rodriguez, the out-of-town import with the big contract whom they could really do without. Yup, no matter what happens tonight/Thursday, this inning will be the microcosm of that narrative. Especially with an idea that Kimbrel/Cora would rather have dealt with Judge on the bases, as opposed to making it a 2-run game with one swing!

  21. Centerfield wrote: I'm excited about this. This is a great move by the Wilpons. (Yes, I just wrote that.) I've never been to MacArthur Stadium (Is it still called that?). I'm planning to go next year and bring my parents. Fman and seawolf. Meet for drinks? NBT Bank Stadium.

  25. How do you interpret the “JUST RETIRE ALREADY” comments every time David Wright’s return process gets reported on? Also Syndergaard has a public persona rep as a bulldog “good teammate” type that Cespedes has never had, public perception anyway, after four teams now.
