Todd Hundley setting the catcher’s single season HR record off Greg McMichael, with Larry in the background.
  3. Credit to something never done before, or since (at least by the Mets), with a lenticular baseball card embedded on the cover.

  5. I’m going with 1990 having a theme.
  6. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: good picture? I was being snarky based on Edgy thinking Dallas Green’s autobio cover showing him in a Yankee jacket (with no logo visible) was done deliberately by the publisher to get some MFYLBs to spend money on it.

  8. Can you come up with a reason why he’s depicted as a Blue Jay and not a Met (New York market), Brave (still a nationally respected franchise) or Brewer (spent same amount of years (3 and change) as he did as a Met)?
  9. 41Forever wrote: The 1971 yearbook was my first one. Seven-yer-old me probably learned more about reading by studying that yearbook than I did from any text we had in school. “We learned more from a baseball team’s yearbook baby, then we ever learned in school...” Doesn’t have the same feel as “three minute record”
  10. Action photo over a prospectus folder cover!
  11. The one that started them all!
  12. I’m going with the first instance of color photography on the cover, Shea, and first player photos.
  13. G-Fafif wrote: The Mets quietly raised an NL East flag during the final regular-season series of 2015. No ceremony, just acknowledgment that the division had been won. It went into storage after the season, replaced in right field by the NL pennant. [Carson]I DID NOT know that![/Carson] Still doesn't take away from my thoughts =
  14. 4) You can see at least umps on the field, and you can make out what probably is the 1969 banner there in RF, so what ARE you babbling about? My point was more on the understated nature of just the pennant flying high above Shea to represent the story of 1973 not being enough for me to vote for it over the 2006 one.

What does this mean? And how do you know that the picture is from game three of the WS? And if it's evening, why is the sky so blue? And how come you're not complaining that there was no right field flagpole at Shea Stadium and that the flags flew in center field? Or that the field looks like a ghost town with not a single player on it? Is that the ultimate game of shadow-ball taking place on a diamond? And are you gonna deduct points from this post because I used an em dash? What in the hell are you talking about? 1) I was taking a little piss out of the composition of the cover. 2) As far as I can tell, no one, not even the MFY, Canadiens, or Celtics, would be so in your face arrogant as to raise a flag banner as they try to improve on what they had won the previous series. 3) Even if the sky color was changed for the composite photo, its still a plain Shea, with no lights on, both would be indicators of being on a pre-WS game October evening.
  16. Agreeing with Edgy’s points. ‘74 seems way too understated in terms of telling the story. Granted some 23 years later the title would be reflected in just a logo on a pinstriped background, but still. Also its clearly a “Decades before Photoshop Photoshop” job since I doubt they’d raise the banner prior to Game 3 of the World Series, on an October evening!
  17. Give props for the All-Time All-Star Roster poster cover featuring recently departed Mets (Dickey, Reyes), and those considered personas non grata by either the organization and the fanbase (Bonilla, KRod, Beltran, Benitez, Glavine, etc) by 2013.
  18. Meh to both, but 1999 gets the nod due to two HOFers and a better “ace” depicted.
  19. 2016 looks more like a poster than a memorabilia publication cover.
  20. It is a shame 1998 did not get a revised treatment. Only thing you got later in the year was a two sided insert sheet in the player profile section of Piazza and Nomo.
  21. Respect for Bill Gallo over Bobby V photobombing a random celebration.
  22. As much as I want all things in ‘94 baseball erased from history books, the cover is strikingly more dynamic. Plus it was a chance to honor the ‘69 crew without reminding the buyer of what was happening on the field that year.
  23. Obviously Grote congratulating Kooz was a must, but just weird seeing Stearns so noticeably far from the celebration.
  24. It is pre-deferred for decades contract Bonilla though.
