  1. When was the last time a MLB team ONLY used 15 hurlers and 7 starters all year long? With Gene Walter and Edwin Nunez as the only real "shaky" pen guys and David West as the only "lets give the young guy a shot" guy.
  2. On another board discussing how this team, baring an championship conclusion, just might be the least fondly recalled Met postseason team. I suggested over 1988 and was told emphatically, no, not even close. So doing some quick research I have come to this conclusion. The 1988 New York Mets would absolutely destroy the 2007 Mets!
  3. Not a lot of juice at Shea, and Gary & Keith remarked it seems to show in the players as well. Better not be this way the rest of this series, to say nothing about the homestand. Rough road trip or not.
  4. FYI its now 28 games for Alou, who skies out as I type and Beltran on second for Delgado. Alou got his hit in the 6th. Delgado strikes out
  5. 1 out, Beltran on first for Alou in the 7th
  6. Simba Sighting, Ted Simmons, now a Padre scout was spotted in the front row. I thought the Geico commercial spoofing the Beverly Hillbillies was clever.
  7. Not a slump buster, but I'll take the chipping away at the lead. See what Luis can do... Come on, get it to Davey Boy...
  8. Jose Reyes, time to END the slump in a BIG way!
  9. Rockin' Doc wrote: SJRogers - "...Very much akin to people still whinning about why Scott Kazmir was traded for Victor Zambrano." No it's not. Not signing ARod to a $252 mil. contract was a good baseball decision. Trading Kazmir for the wrong Zambrano was a bad baseball decision. The too situations are not at all alike. Letting it be clear that ARod/Boras were the bad guys by giving a firm offer and letting them decline would have been a better PR decision.
  10. While we look for Ed Bouchee, getting the Year 2007 New Metsies a chance to say hello I must say that thing growing under Jon Adkins' chin looks inneresting. Is there a term for these overgrown soul patches? Sandy Jr Mosies Alou Chip Ambres are next in terms of the 2007 crew in between Don Aase and Ed Bouchee.
  11. Saturday vs The Fish. Hopefully NOT the last time at Shea for 2007.
  12. I didn't mean it to sound I'm still not over the lack of an offer given to ARod. I just thought of the first thing that popped in my head of Boras doing something that is more beneficial to him (highest and craziest bidder) rather than something that would have made both business and baseball sense (Opening the bidding up to let Boston, both NY teams, LA, both Chicago teams, or even Atlanta, St Louis or SF ect). It obviously is a long since dead issue, especially in light of who we have playing SS (2nd half of the season aside) and 3B today. Very much akin to people still whinning about why Scott Kazmir was traded for Victor Zambrano.
  13. Elster88 wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]Scott Boras, THE reason Alex Rodriguez is not in a Met uniform today. What a POS. Allegedly the reason guys like Barry Zito and Mike Pelfrey changed their mechanics and caused their ineffective seasons. I can't really take this. There are still fans bothered by Ryan for Fregosi, so why can't I still be bothered by the lack of an offer given to ARod back in 2000?
  14. Edgy DC wrote: If Alex Rodriguez fired Scott Boras, he could die of stupidity. There is a difference between getting the most for your client and doing some stupid dealings that includes making a prospectus that drives away most of the bidders, including the team many experts thought would win the sweepstakes because of demands that never materialize. Ditto with even talking causally with someone who may or may not be an owner of a team into doing something that actually is illegal at the current time in baseball. To say nothing about the ethics involved with future labor strife.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: ="DocTee"]George Steinbrenner was born on the fourth of july. Or so he claims. Isn't that George M. Cohan not George M. Steinbrenner? I don't think there is any controversy over his birthdate.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: So basically the magazine claims the agent is talking to a guy who doesn't own the team, about a player he can't talk about, in respect to a contract that can't be offered or accepted. Either that or the agent is blustering away again for the purpose of inflating the market prior to it being open. Good point. Where are the tents out side Yankee Stadium, they weren't there in Arlington. Where is the private jet, office, and everything else that was in that dopey prospectus.
  17. Scott Boras, THE reason Alex Rodriguez is not in a Met uniform today. What a POS. Allegedly the reason guys like Barry Zito and Mike Pelfrey changed their mechanics and caused their ineffective seasons. If this report is true, Rodriguez really ought to fire the guy.
  18. Valadius wrote: Monroe was one of three of our first five presidents (the others being Adams and Jefferson) to die on July 4. Adams and Jefferson on the same day!
  19. And now we get to James Monroe
  20. Cleveland wins 6-2 to clinch the AL Central. First team to clinch a division in 2007.
  21. John Quincy Adams, the first son of a former POTUS to be elected President. There would not be another untill George W. Bush in 2000. Interestingly enough, both Adams are the only one-termers in a stretch from Washington to Jackson of 5 two-termers in 7 Presidents. After Jackson though, Lincoln would be the next two-termer.
  22. Actually a better question is, what the heck is Zimmer doing writing essentially the same book (with stuff on the 2003 ALCS and the reason he left the Yankees and joined Tampa) 3 years later? 2002 2005 Was there really a clamoring to hear Zimmer's side of the incident with Pedro along with why he was no longer employed by the Yankees? Funny note, both books, while written by the same guy have different introductions by the manager who Zimmer was a member of the staff for that particular year. Anyway, thread hijack over...
  23. ="MFS62"]You didn't post the writer's bio: ]Bill Madden joined the Daily News in 1978 after nine years at United Press International where he covered baseball, track and field and Olympics. He was the Daily News' Yankee beat writer from 1980-88 before becoming the News' national baseball columnist. In his 24 years with The News, Madden has broken numerous major baseball stories. He is the author of four books including "Pride of October: What It Was to Be Young and a Yankee," "Damned Yankees," in collaboration with Moss Klein of the Newark Star-Ledger, and two biographies of Don Zimmer. Ya' gotta' wonder about a guy who feels it is necessary to write two boigraphies of Don Zimmer. Later COME ON! Zim is a national treasure!
  24. Yancy Street Gang wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]And 11th different NL champ since the 95-96 Braves. Hope not. Yance, that was meant that the NL will not have back-to-back champs again since the Braves won back-to-back in 1996. Not the 11th different franchise as the Cards and Marlins have won twice in that time frame, and we all hope the Mets will make it a threesome this year for that time frame.
  25. Centerfield wrote: And now he walks in a run. They better suck this bad at Shea next week. No kidding. If the division isn't wrapped up by Thursday, watch TLR treat the game Thursday like its Game 8 of the 2006 NLCS!
