Although I'll say this, having been in college the same time... you're totally right. Same here, with the exception of junior and senior year which encompassed 98 (and even that Piazza was brought in after school was out) and 99 the Mets were barely an afterthought. Could also have been because Fairfield was at the time quite a Yankee-Red Sox hub.
  2. Just shows you how out of tune with the micro details these national show commentators are. Injuries are a big picture deal and generally are an easy answer when pressed with a question about why a team fell apart, as opposed to actually keeping informed, even a little bit, with what is going on with each team.
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"]Not that I care but who's the MVP? They keep showing Manny No obvious choice. I could make a case for Ellsbury. Answer is... Mike Lowell.
  4. Yankees have to redo those "Got Rings?" shirts! HAHAHA!
  5. Winners of the Clemente Award. Mays 71 Singleton 82 Carter 89 Leiter 00 Delgado 06 CF, you are up.
  6. Which is why I threw up an easy one in the meantime
  7. Probably as good of a color head shot of Bowa as you may get. Although the B&W Yance has is a better shot
  8. Here's one
  9. Ah the heck with it, here is the top 40 Yogi Berra 1947 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1955 1956 1957 1958 1960 1961 1962 1963 Gil Hodges 1947 1949 1952 1953 1955 1956 1959 Warren Spahn 1948 1957 1958 Gene Woodling 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 Duke Snider 1949 1952 1953 1955 1956 1959 Richie Ashburn 1950 Willie Mays 1951 1954 1962 Clem Labine 1952 1953 1955 1956 1959 1960 Don Zimmer 1955 1959 Roger Craig 1955 1956 1964 Tom Sturdivant 1955 1956 1957 1958 Charlie Neal 1956 1959 Chico Fernandez 1956 Felix Mantilla 1957 1958 Marv Throneberry 1958 Carl Willey 1958 Joe Pignatano 1959 Bob Shaw 1959 Dick Stuart 1960 1966 Bob Friend 1960 Vinegar Bend Mizell 1960 Ralph Terry 1961 1962 1963 1964 Hal Reniff 1961 1963 1964 Elio Chacon 1961 Gus Bell 1961 Sherman Jones 1961 Jay Hook 1961 Chuck Hiller 1962 Tommy Davis 1963 1966 Bob Miller 1963 1965 1966 1971 Ken Boyer 1964 Jerry Buchek 1964 Ray Sadecki 1964 Gordie Richardson 1964 Nick Willhite 1965 Ed Bressoud 1967 Jack Lamabe 1967 Al Jackson 1967 Mickey Lolich 1968

I'd root for the NL even if it was the Phillies or Cardinals or Cubs or Pirates or Nationals or (our NL East rivals from 69-93) Dodgers (NL team I truely despise on a deeply passionate level) or Astros (sibling rivalry) in the series
  11. Vic Sage wrote: you really have to work overtime, bend over backwards, etc etc, to find reasons to bash our franchise player. Who said I'm bashing him?
  12. G-Fafif wrote: Bingo. Tells them what they want to hear describes it very well. Sounds like a certain despised short stop on the other side of town, and not the one currently contracted to play 3rd over there.
  13. Okay then, the first 30 are all futures, in fact of the first 40, all but 4 are future Mets
  14. Also if Paul Byrd makes it, it will be the first time since 1981 that 2 former or future Mets (course that can change over time) will have made a World Series roster. If the Red Sox come back and win, it will mark the first time since someone faced his future team with the '73 A's that there will be one former or future Met on either World Series Rosters.
  15. Well we are doing the first couple of decades first, so its 3 down, 37 to go. For what it's worth, this years Mets team contributed to new records for the most Metly World Series ever to not include the Met franchise as well as the most former and future Mets ever on a World Series roster. Also the 1969-1970 Orioles and the 1970 Reds are the only teams not to feature a future or a former Met on their World Series roster since 1947, when the first two future Mets appeared on a World Series roster.
  16. Hurdle does appear on the list, but we have a ways to go 'till then
  17. Two more Cleveland wins and Paul Byrd will join Kazuo Matsui as the 174th and 175th future or former Met to appear on a World Series Roster. Note I am not counting returning Mets since if I count say Lee Mazzilli or Bobby Bonillia, should I not count Tug McGraw or Randy Myers whose Met stints were broken up despite still being in the organization? Also guys like Ramon Castro on the 2003 Marlins do not count, even though he has a ring, he does not appear on the Marlin Postseason roster. Starting it off easy with 1947 through 1968, there are 40 of them, many should be quite easy to get, especially the first 10. I'll fill some semblance of an order as we go.
  18. Okay, I need to clean up the spillage on my screen now...
  19. I'm augmenting and agreeing with the point that both teams in question have had lean periods that in the grand scheme of their franchise's history are not as bad as the fans who say "Hey I lived through (Horace Clarke, Willie Montanez, Kevin Mass, Bobby Bonilla, ect)" try to make it sound. There is no attention deflection.
  20. seawolf17 wrote: Cleveland. I'm almost as done with the Sox as I am with the Yankees. Heh, don't get me started with the whole "Met fan who says the Red Sox are his/her favorite AL team or second favorite team" drivel!
  21. And to be real fair neither were the "Horace Clarke Years" of 65-75 or the period of 82-94 without any Yankee postseasons despite the MFYs having "the most wins in the decade of the 80s" but we are talking about the "dark" times of both franchise's history and Vic wishes a return of such a time for the MFY, but the way the game is structured the "dark years" will be akin to the Mets 01-05 or something where the valley will only be about a year or so.
  22. I'm getting a little Red Sox Nation-ed out, plus since 2003 the team with the longest drought since their last championship has won the World Series 2003 Marlins 1997 Yankees 2000 2004 Red Sox 1918 Cardinals 1982 2005 White Sox 1917 Astros Never Won 2006 Cardinals 1982 Tigers 1984 I'd like to see that trend continue, plus it would cross another team off couple of lists: -Teams that had droughts of 40 or more years between championships since the last Cub one and -Teams that won before the Mets last championship (kind was hoping this trend would continue for the Metsies)
  23. ="Vic Sage"] I hope they ride Torre out of town on a rail, then don't re-sign A-Rod, and spend the next decade finishing out of the playoffs, changing managers every year or 2. Sadly I doubt that is ever going to happen again. While my knee jerk reaction to the collapse of the Mets was that it would be a long while before the Mets return to contention, I seriously doubt the Met franchise will ever have another 74-85 or even 89-98 ever again as well. Economics of baseball has shifted too far one way for the Mets and Yankees to ever be horrendous for a long period of time ever again. Of course save for a drastic change in the economic system and/or ownership of either team decides to do a scorched earth decimation of the franchise to the point where the team becomes the Pittsburgh Pirates or Tampa Bay Rays.
  24. G-Fafif wrote: The final game at Tiger Stadium took place on a Monday afternoon, starting time 4:05 PM (with five road games remaining, as noted). The opponent was the Royals, who had been around for "only" 31 seasons at the time. And somehow it was a sellout and highly memorable and moving, according to reports. There's never a bad time to say this, but fuck the Yankees (and Verducci...and Klapisch). And, sadly, their final regular-season home game in '08 probably won't be their final home game of '08. But even if it is, so the fuck what? The whole fucking world doesn't fucking rise and fucking set on their sorry fucking asses. Heh, all this reminded me of a caller to WFAN in 2000 before the first two stadium double header, I don't remeber if he stated his allegence, but he had to be a Yankee fan because he suggested that the Met-Yankee double header should have been the only baseball played that day.
