I really, really want that Golden Jubliee next year at Wrigley. I mean it wouldn't bother me if they won after 99 years (99 years without a Championship on the wall, 99 long years...) but I'd love to see a professional team with a 100 year streak.
  3. Rockin' Doc wrote: SJR - "Please, like internet posts really have ANYTHING to do with what goes on on the field." Of course they don't. They can, however, make you look pretty damn stupid when you start to count your chickens before they hatch or in this case, pennants before they're won. Fair point, but 40 was a nice round number to start the countdown at. No matter how small the lead was at the time.
  4. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Rooting for the Yankees and Cubs to lose. And the Phillies too. So I care, but not enough to watch. I've only watched two or three non-Mets postseason games since 1994. I may (or may not) peek at an inning here or there, but no more sitting down to watch a baseball game. I used to be a baseball fan. Now I'm simply a Mets fan. It's the legacy of 1994. I have a feeling 2007 may cause many Met fans to feel the same way. Then again that may just be a knee jerk same day reaction, but that ending really is something that could drive many to either elsewhere or a gradual reduction of how much they invest in the team.
  5. Well, thats why I asked it here rather than messing with the POTG thread =
  6. Yancy Street Gang wrote: An apology would have been even better. HA!
  7. Gwreck wrote: Crowd was terrible today. Lots of shameful behavior, early exists, inappropriate booing (ie. booing Mota after 2 scoreless innings). Mets declined to take the opportunity anywhere during or after the game to thank the fans for the 3,850,000 tickets sold (and consequently millions of dollars made by the Mets) this year. Putting up the "get home safe" graphic only and not even bothering to thank the fans was a major oversight. Some token thanks was necessary. I agree, but this was not 1985 or 1987. This probably will go down as the most hated season in Met history. It would seem silly for them to do any of the usual Fan Appreciation Day festivities at Shea. They do have Thanks on Mets.com though.
  8. I'm posting this here instead of the actual POTG thread, can we do what WFAN did and award all 10 points to the 3.8 million fans who made it to Shea this year?
  9. Phillies now officially added to Triple Happiness and Braves dropped for 2008.
  10. Please, like internet posts really have ANYTHING to do with what goes on on the field.
  11. ="Kid Carsey"]I: >>>the end of last season hurt a hell of a lot more than this season did<<< I agree, a sniff of world series vs. what we've been through the last week and I'm almost over it. Of course there will be some Yankee fan crap to put up with tomorrow morning (caller id has prevented some of that today) but we'll see what they can do. I wouldn't be too confident if I were a Yankee fan post season wise. Nah they'll win the World Series, just to make Met Nation feel worse, and ARod will have a HISTORIC postseason to match his regular season. The only way that ending could actually be a good one though, is if ARod says F U to the Yankees and Yankee fans and opts out this winter.
  12. Nymr83 wrote: ]This could be FARTHER from the truth when it comes to Red Sox fans. Please, they hate the Mets JUST as much as they hate the Yankees are you smoking something? Hello, who did the Mets beat in 1986? There was JUST a movie last year called Game Six about the Red Sox experience of that game. Buckner was villivied after that point, you can't tell me that Red Sox Nation is just apatheic when it comes to the Mets. Like I said, they did NOT root for ANYONE during the 2000 World Series. That says something about how much animosity towards the Mets they still harbor.
  13. Okay Z, this year who was Reyes NOT better than? Lets see, SS this year better than Reyes: Hanley, Rollins (who all but sewn his MVP), hell Felipe Lopez of the Nats has gone ahead of him, Hardy, Jeter...do you want me to continue? I'll even take David Eckstein at this point if Reyes was moved.
  14. ="Mex17"]I I'm also a secondary Red Sox fan (I lived in Nashua for a spell when I was young). Mex, I'll give you that you lived in NE, but this kind of always bothered me about Met Nation since the start of the recent era of the Yankee-Red Sox War. The belief that because of a common enemy Red Sox and Met Nation share a bond that would have one root for the other when their favorite team's season ended. This could be FARTHER from the truth when it comes to Red Sox fans. Please, they hate the Mets JUST as much as they hate the Yankees, maybe even more than we hate the Yankees. Red Sox fans simply did not root in 2000 the way Met fans just blindly rooted for the Red Sox in 2004 like a bunch of Yankee hating sheep. Thats part of the reason why I'm firmly an NL guy, even if that means rooting for the Phillies, Cardinals, Braves, Dodgers or anyonelse that I consider a hated rival. We don't pick up any fans from anywherelse that hates the Yankees (mostly AL cities) so why should we do the same just because they are a Yankee rival? I know thats a bit contradictory, but it makes sense in that most of the NL (save for New York, LA and SF) is probably indifferent about the Yankees or hates the Yankees because its the "thing to do" without real reasons to back it up.
  15. Why not, its still baseball. Its your duty, Judy! I'll probably root for whoever gets the NL crown, even if its the Phillies or Cubs. Though I do want to see that Golden Jubliee celebration at Wrigley next year.
  16. One problem, isn't the option for next year his to pick up?
  17. Yeah I know Coob, just doing some housekeeping in this thread.
  18. ="Zvon"]="Mex17"]Is it possible that Ricky was more than a hinderance than a help with regards to him?? HAIL! Heh, even though that is 41 for Mex17 I'm not sure HAIL deserves to be in this thread!
  19. And we go to a Game 163, Padres at Rockies! As amazing as the Phillies-Mets race was in the historic sence, how about those Rockies. By virtue of the Padre loss today, the Diamondbacks get their 4th division in their history (99, 01, 02)
  20. 4-3 Rockies now with a runner on 1st
  21. One out away from a Rocky Mountain High Play In Game between the Padres and Rockies on Monday!
  22. Iubitul wrote: I am really, really, really frightened that the same thoughts were just going through my head as I was doing the grocery shopping just now... Now I know that I need professional help... Heh! Just be glad I really wouldn't trade Reyes (unless it was for an ace) and this was more of a temperature gauge.
  23. Oh its safe to assume the Mets will not trade Jose Reyes this offseason, but it would be interesting to see what Reyes can net on the open market. Seems like he was getting Rey Ordonez/Kaz Matsui/ARod like reactions out there and the piped in crowd chant at the end of the recorded "Jose Jose Jose, JOOOOSSSEEEEEEEEE" has never sounded more fake so one might figure that a change of scenery just might be needed since the NY crowd is giving him no free passes at this point. So do you shop around for a Roy Oswalt, Roy Halladay, Johan Santana, Jake Peavy, C.C. Sabathia type to put at the front of the rotation? Yeah starting pitching was not the major problem, and having that type of pitcher doesn't gaurantee winning a World Series, but this team hasn't had a true "top 5 pitcher in the game" since Bret Saberhagen and sometimes that does hurt a team that has the type of makeup that this team does. They needed that stopper that you knew would get the job during the last couple of weeks of the season. Jose Reyes is far from the best SS in the game now, heck he may only be the 4th best SS in the division at this point, the Mets don't need Reyes as much as they need pitching help. Another thing the Mets could do, and I'll admit this is more likely to happen, is to get someone who would start at SS for most major league teams (not a frontliner, but a nice guy who would do nicely off the bench) and just play with the idea that he'd be a good starter. Certaint teams used to do that in order to kick players in the ass. And when you have a 120 million dollar payroll, yes you can afford to do so. And finally, hire someone who will stick hot pokers up Reyes' ass when he needs one, especially after how Reyes acted since the Houston benching. No, I don't know if Randolph/Henderson did that the last couple of months, but it is clear his maturation process took a huge step backwards the last couple of months, and it may be time for a drill sargent to take over. Or the Mets can do nothing and hope Reyes gets out of this funk on his own.
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: How did the 2007 Red Sox do? You're going through your usual tactic, SJR, of deciding on a conclusion first then cherry-picking only that evidence which supports the pre-determined answer and ignoring or discounting anything that doesn't. Again, if you want to discuss a topic you've got the entire board and 5 months to make your case. But at least be prepared to bring something to the table aside from some knee-jerk reaction with little forethought and questionable evidence. Its not cherry picking when its few and far between And yes the Sox last year gave up after the sweep by the Yankees in Fenway, but that isn't one of the most historic collapses in baseball history. No one puts them on the same pedestal as the 64 Phillies, 78 Red Sox, 07 Mets.
  25. Frayed Knot wrote: So in other words, it matters ... except when it doesn't. Well when its two examples out of how many? Yeah it does. What did the Cubs do after 1969? What did the Giants do after 1993?
