Rockin' Doc wrote: I see virtually no similarity between Yancy having lost faith in this teams ability to make the post season two weeks ago and SJR stating that he lost faith in them for the season and further more doubts they can contend in the future, possibly for the next decade. Yancy was just acknowledging and accepting the harsh reality of the Mets collapse. SJR has completely overreacted to the effects of this late season collapse. No similarity at all in my view. Phillies wouldn't be back into contention untill 1976, it would take the Red Sox untill 1986 to climb back to the top of the AL East. Maybe the 51 and 62 Dodgers are your best examples (back-to-back NL champs followed The Miracle of Coogan's Bluff and the 63 Dodgers won the World Championship) of teams that did bounce back. Do you see this sorry bunch doing that in 2008?
  2. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I guess I was prepared for this. I saw it coming since two weeks ago today. There have been a few times in the past two weeks when I've allowed myself to become a little optimistic, but, well, I smelled a stink on this team and I guess my nose knows. I wish I was wrong! SJR and YSG simillarity scores go up.
  3. I hate to say this, but I have a feeling the Mets will not be anywhere close to contention next year. Teams rarely, if ever, come back from a regular season meltdown like this (I'm not counting postseason meltdowns like the 2004 Yankees) and in some cases it can take over a decade just to return to contention.

  5. Zvon wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]="Rockin' Doc"]Reyes pop up for the third out of the sixth inning. Wow, there's a surprise. Marlins 8 Zombies 1 through six innings at Shea. Wonder if the Astros would want him for Oswalt? You would trade Reyes for an arm? Ha! What a fool. Not AN ARM, one of the top 5 in the game.

  7. This also had better be Tom Glavine's final game as a Met!
  8. Heh on another board posters are suggesting using Reyes as trade bait next season for a Halladay/Santana type pitcher Okay, I suggested Santana only because Doc seems to be injury prone.
  9. ="Zvon"]="Kid Carsey"]Z: >>>yea, that hurts. And losin Dads,....worse.<<< I have no idea what you're talking about. Delgado. Even if we somehow turn this around, he's done for the season. We've been playing sans Delgado all year anyway pretty much. Even when he was healthy!

  11. Zvon wrote: How does a fan booo anyone on his team during a game like this? Even when your guy is floundering, especially then, you have to get behind him and help him up. This isn't scholastic sports here Z. If a player or players don't appear to be trying, then yes, they do deserve the reaction the fans are giving them.
  12. Down goes Delgado. Can we go a year before going after Teixeira in the 2008 offseason? I think we can live without Delgado next year.
  13. How many posts does Z need before I don't have to look at Glavine?
  14. Sonofa... 7 runs back before we even bat!
  15. Hey Z, post some more in the forum right now so I don't have to look at Tom Glavine in your avatar. I'd just rather not think of him at this point the rest of today. Thanks
  16. Yip! No Kiner plaque. Ah well, nothing you can do about it, just have to wait a year before I can get a nice photo of it. Nice running into Kase. Unfortunately I was busy looking for a batting helmet for my nephew when all the fun happened RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY SEATS! Ah well =
  17. Yancy Street Gang wrote: A no-hitter is a quirk, an anomaly. It can't compare to a championship. Very true, like Alou's 30 game hit streak, the second half of Wright's 26 game streak and Glavine's 300th win, they are nice things that should be looked at outside of the season they are done in, rather than defining the season that a championship would. If by coincidence a special moment did happen during a championship season, then yes it does add to the specialness of the season, but it doesn't make a season special on it's own.
  18. The Whitehouse.gov official portrait does not do Mr. Adams justice, so here we go
  19. Apparently TJ wants to be seen, so lets indulge the man who wrote the Declaration and bought the Louisiana Territory
  20. ="Zvon"]I was going to go with a Bond movie from 2002 that also includes the word die, but after some consideration, I'm going with this, from 1973. Kill em Nats. Murderize em! Classic tune by Sir James Paul McCartney as well.
  21. Well, incorrectly of course, but it is a hell of a final words.
  22. Yes but that fellow from Quincy, whose bio I'm listening to on my iPod should be arriving shortly to take the Magic Number from the Virginian. Oh, and to quote him in regards to today, "Jefferson survives!"
  23. One issue if I may. Back in July/August whenever it was, they had Ralph Kiner night, and they presented him with a special plaque, akin to the one they gave Bob Murphy on his night, and gave Carter honoring his induction into Cooperstown. And they said that it was going to be hung alongside them in the Diamond Club Lobby (where the HOF is). Well I was there in the Astro series, and Ralph's plaque STILL ISN'T UP! If its not up today, I'm going to be convinced that they are going to do it when the new Citi Field Mets Museum goes up in 2009. By the way, I mentioned it in an IGT, but I just realized about 2009. Its going to be weird, and sad as well (especially to those who were there when it happened), to see the Mets honor the 40th anniversary of the 1969 Mets in a freshly opened ballpark while the site of the Miracle (and all three of the celebrations) is nothing more than a parking lot.
  24. Doing some housekeeping # 22 9/21 Mets 9 Marlins 6 Brewers 4 Braves 1 Bluejays 5 Yankees 4
  25. Well, I'll need something to restrain myself from going over the Marlin dugout and charging the field if today turns out as crappy as the rest of the week has been.
