  1. Happy Birthday Jose with a leadoff single.
  2. Sosa 5.5 Delgado 1.5 Wright 1 LoDuca 1 Wagner 1
  3. I would be fine with interleague if -- and only if -- they put 15 teams in each league. Otherwise it's stupid.

  6. Friday night at the house of evil. Looks like it will be Clemens pitching. Ugh.
  7. Excellent KTE, thanks for the Dodger update. I really hadn't a clue to what was going on out there this year. We could really use a sweep or at least 2 of 3.
  8. Exactly. How long is a slump a slump, and at what point does someone slip from elite status into being an good-but-not-spectacular player? I think Delgado's quickly reaching that point.
  9. Who's player A and who's player B? They both play adequate-if-not-spectacular defense. PlayerABRHHRRBIBBKAVGOPS07 Contract08 ContractA17824407274443.225.780$13 M$14 MB229315310382150.231.720$14.5 M$16 M
  10. Delgado is absolutely killing is this series. Needs a day or two off.
  11. Beltran and Delgado HAVE to finally get it done here. Too bad they pulled Grilli. I kinda liked him.
  12. I wasn't disappointed at all about Sosa not finishing the game. He was at over 110 pitches, and having just lost 5 of 6, I was all in favor of Wagner coming in and getting the save.
  13. I don't think we necessarily have an ace, we have 5 #2 or #3 starters. Which seems to be working fine.
  14. Lefty going today. Gary/Ron say he just gets one more day to get ready, will be there Monday.
  15. Was there on Friday and for this game. Delgado had the two chances to get it done, 7th and 9th -- but really, it was the 7th, with 3 men on that was our real chance to win the game. Todd Jones -- with a 5.79 ERA coming into the game, and 4 blown saves -- is a fairly big mystery. How can he be effective? He had a total of 11 BBs and 9 Ks going into the game. I guess Detroit has a pretty good defense but still, it doesn't make sense. With all the closers we've gotten to this year (Fuentes, Dempster, Benitez, Valverde) I was really hopeful we could add one to that list. I was surprised that they didn't keep Gotay in the game after his successful pinch-hitting apperance. Seemed strange, they could've put Valentin in left (or Gotay, he seems athletic, he could try LF too). Mota also totally killed us. Sele looked good, given that he had not pitched in 2 weeks, I believe. -- Comerica thoughts: I'd been there once before but have been to several other new parks since for some comparison. I like the layout and the dowtown setting, but Detroit's downtown is, of course, not exactly a great place. You can see where improvements were made for the Super Bowl but not a ton of progress has been made. Depressing. The big thing with several of the big sports bars is to offer free parking and shuttle bus service to the stadium. There are a few that are still located next to Tiger Stadium. We had seats down the right field line both games, once closer in, where the seats were kinda cramped (and I'm not exactly a huge person with long legs, either). Seemed to be wider (and not just more leg room) in a lower down row. The open concourse wasn't quite as good as I've seen it. Concessions stands galore made lines very short but the bathroom lines were very very long. All games this weekend were sold out, but I thought the point was to have enough for that sort of game. Great use of music at Comerica (appropriately). They play "Dancing in the Street" after their wins. Scoreboard is very good with the exception of the out-of-town scoreboard (way too small, not visible from everywhere). The main scoreboard puts up lots of situational statistics and they do a good job of finding the worst possible situational stats (ie. Beltran is hitting .189 with runners on 2nd and 3rd) for their opponents. Detroit fans love them some Tigers merch. Seemed like *everybody* was wearing Tigers apparel. I liked that they had player name and number shirts for seemingly every position player regular, most of the starters as well as Zumaya and Jones. Nice (as opposed to Reyes, Wright, Delgado, Beltran, Wagner, which is all the Mets seem to ever have).
  16. Sheffield mashed one, fortunately no runners on base. A popular item at Comerica is apparently a White chef's hat with the Detroit "D" on it.

Suggested elsewhere in the CPF was getting LoDuca some time in LF. I don't see that hurting. I love the Ichiro idea too. Wonder how far back Seattle has to fall to make that happen.
  18. I literally turned on the TV in the office seconds before the hit.
  19. OHernandez 3 Beltran 1.5 Gotay 1
  20. I went. 4th straight game at Shea that I've gone to that they've lost. Hasn't happened any time in the last 10 years. Runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs and nobody scores? Totally unacceptable. I still don't blame Heilman, not for tonight, or for Molina, or for the other few big homers. It was unfortunate, but with Eaton pitching there was no excuse for the offense to again not show up. Heilman might be struggling a little but he's getting a terrible rap lately. The hatred is unwarranted.
  21. Yeah, we've got so much to worry about with the pitching. Oh, wait, not really.
  22. I'll endorse that. PLD was one of the options for LF for that game when they couldn't get Johnson in from wherever New Orleans was playing fast enough.
  23. Newhan has switched to Mo' Money, Mo' Problems by Notorious B.I.G. Any help on IDing Gomez' and Johnson's music would be much appreciated.
  24. Glavine 2.5 LoDuca 2 Easley 1 Schoeneweis 1 Wagner 1 Mota 1
