  1. Upper Reserved 8, Row H, Seats 1/2. Although we may just try to move up and sit with the 8 or 9 people who are in Section 8 in one of the higher rows.
  2. Fair enough. Really, I was just curious, if it was a win expectancy thing or some other formula for awarding the points. The Mets PA announcer announced Tatis as the player of the game and I thought that was curious but the 3x on base I can see putting him over the top.
  3. The Mets Foundation again is hosting a charity event in Greenwich. Info is here. You'll need just $750 to get in the door, and that's before you get to bid on the auctions, which include hitting clinics, pitching clinics, a "bullpen session," "football toss" (presumably with Wagner), a catch on the field at Shea, etc. all with Mets players. Last year the auctions were a lot better (Spanish Lesson with "Professor Reyes," take Billy Wagner to "show-and-tell" at school; shag flies with Beltran, etc.) This year? They're nonspecific but given that last year's pitching clinic with Schoeneweis raised over $20k, have that checkbook ready...
  4. Remembered this today when Chris Rock was on the Diamondvision again imploring people to cheer "Let's Go Mets!": Sunday's game, Howie and Wayne are talking about their favorite actors, and Wayne asks Howie about the celebs at the games. Howie proceeds to talk about those who actually have visited the radio booth, and names Seinfeld and Chris Rock, of course, but also John Cusack, and Kurt Russell. Mentions that Kurt Russell was related to Matt Franco, and hence Russell used to come watch the Mets in Houston to see Franco.

  6. Yanks load the bases in the top of the 11th but the Orioles turn a nifty 4-2-5 double play on a sharp ARod grounder. Next batter though has the RBI single. Bottom of the 11th, Mora leads off with a single. Huff triples him home to tie and then after 2 intentional walks, Alex Cintron hits the deep fly ball to win it.
  7. Tatis and Castro both had 2 2-out RBI.
  8. The bigger mystery to me in the 5/27 game is how a couple of voters thought that Tatis was 2 or 1.2 points more valuable than Castro.
  9. Santana 3 Tatis 2 Castro 2 Sanchez 1 Wagner 1 Wright .5 Reyes .5
  10. Thoughts from Shea tonight: 1. Nick Evans does not look capable of hitting major league pitching. Looked badly overmatched and fooled during each of his at-bats tonight. 7 LOB to boot. 2. I love Santana but wish he could take that next step from very good to great and not keep giving up the little stuff -- like the home run every start, or those 2 wild pitches in the 7th that gave away an extra run. Pitch count was a touch high as well, which is what kept him from going into the 8th. 3. I agreed with taking Santana out after 7; it's not about "growing a pair" for Willie as was suggested elsewhere in this IGT; I think it's about keeping your pitcher healthy and not pushing him too far. We had a lead and have a solid bullpen. No problem with using Sanchez there. 4. Sanchez' decreased velocity is a little troubling but with his array of pitches he can still clearly be effective. Hell, I don't think Pedro Feliciano ever hits more than 85 on the gun most of the time but he has no trouble getting people out. It would be nice to know if this is just a recovery thing and the velocity will come back, or if he's just going to be a different pitcher from now on. 5. Crowd was mostly good and supportive, which was a relief to see. Now if we can just string together a couple of these games...
  11. No lineups yet, but David Lennon is reporting that Evans, Castro, Easley and Tatis are all starting tonight (Easley at first in place of Delgado). Florida starter Andrew Miller is a lefty. Also a decent chance of a rain delay tonight. "Severe Thunderstorm Watch" in place for Queens County. ="The National Weather Service"] Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 9pm, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 3am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 54. North wind between 10 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

  13. Agreed. From 2005-2007 Heilman was our best and most consistent reliever. This was no 4 months of excellence a la Sanchez '06. It was 3 years! I can't see any value in just throwing that away. I think the long-man role is perfect for Heilman right now and despite the problems he's had, I'd like to see him stay on the club.
  14. Millar would be a good addition. Additionally, unlike Mike Carp, he can actually hit at the major league level. No offense to Carp, but I don't think he's shown that he could be more effective than Delgado has been.
  15. Fire Sandy Alomar Jr., Tom Nieto and Jerry Manuel? More realistic: I'd like to get an outfielder on this team NOW. Find somebody, make a trade. Church should've been put on the DL 5 days ago instead of pinch hitting each night. If Pagan isn't available, let's get someone here who can hit (ie. not Chavez or Easley).
  16. Something about the lowest # of runs, hits, etc. they've ever had in a series at Coors Field?
  17. Reyes 1.5 Heilman 1.5 Feliciano 1 Wright 1 Castillo 1 Beltran 1 Smith .5
  18. Maine 1 Schoeneweis 1 Wise .5
  19. I always wind up keeping that stat because when I keep score at a game I wind up tallying them as part of keeping a pitch count. Funny thing is, over his 3 years with the Mets, I've always been convinced that it was John Maine who was the worst offender at having a high pitch count of foul-offs with 2 strikes.
  20. SNY did mention Gonzalez on the scrolling ticker on the bottom of the screen. Glad to see Heilman earning some beer tonight.
  21. In those seats, the All-Star "package" (includes Home Run Derby, Futures Game, etc.) is $1600/seat. I guess he could try to mark it up but at a certain point there's only so much more you can push it. We considered buying but the cheapest seats are $410 per seat, plus the mandatory 2 FanFest tickets and game program they make you buy (another $70).
  22. Anytime you want to give it a rest, you just go right ahead and do that. Thanks.
  23. The difference in the McCarver-Kiner pairing was, of course, that McCarver was doing more of the play-by-play and therefore didn't seem obligated to fill in with something at the spots alloted him by Buck.
  24. Vargas 3.5 Evans 2 Beltran 2 Castro 1.5 Wright 1
  25. Schoeneweis 2 Delgado 2 Sanchez 1 Tatis 1 Chavez 1 Castillo .5
