  1. Tuesday's number-puller turned out to be actually two representatives from the New York City Parks Foundation.
  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: It was in the Snooze. Metsblog is not a source of info. Agreed, hence my note about not being able to find independent verification. Might use that site as a lead towards info but certainly never as primary source.
  3. Possibly more movement here as the Mets apparently DFAed Abraham Nunez after Tuesday's game, no corresponding move yet. Source: Metsblog, no confirmation elsewhere.
  4. I know the label's already been applied to other games but this one is the worst loss of the year.
  5. Delcos is the Mets beat reporter for the Journal News (the Westchester/Rockland paper). In my opinion, his blog is among the best of the Mets beat reporters (only Adam Rubin of the Daily News and perhaps David Lennon of Newsday have better ones).
  6. Ok, so he's no longer a Met...but... Meet the new Mrs. LoDuca here[/url:21ywss4j]. Photos here[/url:21ywss4j]. Found via David Lennon's blog[/url:21ywss4j].
  7. Metsblog is reporting -- although I have not seen confirmation anywhere -- that both Anderson and Alou have been activated from the DL and Casanova optioned to Norfolk.
  8. Nymr83 wrote: still, theres really nothing to complain about with shea's food policy. lets hope it carries over into the new place. I'm hoping so too but I am not optimistic.
  9. John Delcos buries Omar and staff on this issue here. ="John Delcos"] Shameful... The Mets should be ashamed of how they handled the Ryan Church situation. On all levels. Church said he told the team he felt he could play and absolves the team of all blame. Hes being the good soldier. And, dont forget, he was thinking with a head injury. I asked Omar Minaya, sarcastically, I admit, where Church got his medical degree so he could make such a decision. The Mets werent happy with the question and told me so, and my response was to tell them I still thought they mishandled the situation. I even got a nasty e-mail from someone, asking who I was to question Minaya. Whoa. I am supposed to question authority in my business and not drink the Kool-Aid. Of course, I havent gotten an apology email from that gutless wonder. Fact is, they never should have flown Church to Colorado. They should have never put him in the situation to make a decision. They should have known after the first concussion not to fool around. He should have been on the DL immediately. All this you can find on this blogs archives at the time. If what the Mets are saying is true, that the doctors said Church was all right, then those doctors should be fired, and I mean RIGHT NOW. Inexcusable. Then again, why werent the Mets smart enough to get a second opinion? For that matter, why didnt Churchs agent? How about acting in the best interest of your client? Willie Randolph said concussions werent common in baseball and little is known about them. When I asked if the team didnt seek advice from the Giants, Jets or Rangers, who deal with concussions all the time, he said he didnt think so. Well, why the hell not? And, by the way, plenty is known about concussions. Also, while Im in full attack mode right now, how as manager can you not know what the front office is doing regarding your best player so far this year? If you dont know, then ask somebody who does. Minaya is at fault for not making the DL decision earlier and not seeking a second opinion. Randolph is at fault for not benching him completely. The training staff is at fault for not insisting Church should sit or finding out more. The Wilpons are at fault for letting this nonsense go on underneath their ownership. And, while were at it, the players association is at fault for being asleep at the switch. They make a big stink out of limiting the testing for steroids and even suggesting collusion in not signing Barry Bonds, but when the health of one of their members is at question, where is Don Fehr? Hell say this is a teams business, but thats bull. As a union, your first priority is to protect your membership. The Mets got chippy when I and other reporters questioned what the teams priority was, the health of the player or putting the best team on the field. Cant see an apology coming from them, either. Just dumb and arrogant from top to bottom. They should be ashamed, but I doubt they have that capability.

  11. Tonight: Another stupid freaking representative from Lincoln Mercury.
  12. Busted. You should immediately turn over the rest of your 2008 tickets for dissemination among the rest of the CPF hoi polloi.
  13. Yes. Shea actually has one of the most liberal policies in the majors when it comes to allowing food and beverage in. Yes, they will search your bag, but you can bring practically anything you want in. Soft-sided coolers are fine. No booze, no cans, no glass are the only restrictions. I have heard some rumblings that this year they would only allow sealed beverages in but I haven't seen that enforced.
  14. My recollection was that it painted Minaya in a much more favorable light, but given the end of the 2005 season, I think that was fair to do so. At that point, the Mets looked to be in a good spot. The cavalcade of problems, whether injury (Martinez, Hernandez, Alou) or questionable contract lengths (Franco, Chavez, Castro, Anderson) came later.
  15. Agreed on the ketchup point, especially given that the author claims to be from Chicago. I found the article to be generally unsatisfying -- too many parks covered and too little emphasis on each -- ie. he mentions the Primanti's sandwich in Pittsburgh in passing but that's all we get about PNC. If he had narrowed his focus to, say the 3 or 4 top parks for food (Seattle, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Baltimore and maybe Pittsburgh) it would've perhaps worked better. That being said, I generally agree with the reviews of the food in Milwaukee, Chicago, Seattle, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
  16. The first of the pictures Willets posted does not appear to be of the Jets playing. Assuming it's a legitimate photo, it must be from one of those random soccer games they played there.
  17. Church to DL, no corresponding roster move announced yet.
  18. You could also give the spot back to Vargas.
  19. AG/DC wrote: Well, he's through with the fruits of TiTTS, that's for sure. Could someone spell out this acronym for me?
  20. Willets Point wrote: Here's a blog post that reflects my outlook on this year's team. Here's the problem with that post: the assertion that "nobody's running away with this thing" ... cause that's exactly what the Phillies are starting to do (8-2 in their last 10).
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Would a young contending team (like Tampa Bay, perhaps) have use for a veteran DH/pinch-hitter with a solid bat? They already have Alou's Mets predecessor in that role.
  22. I think Yancy forgot Chavez in the voting for the June 8 game (2-4; the drag bunt RBI; the outfield assist in the 1st inning that saved a run, etc.). Both Easley and Chavez got some extra consideration for good "D" in my voting.
  23. Delgado 2.5 Chavez 1.5 Easley 1.5 Castillo 1.5 Vargas 1 Schoeneweis 1
  24. Of the players you listed: Delgado: Is being paid $16 million this year, and we are on the hook for a $4 million option buyout of next year. I suppose we could eat some money on that but otherwise his trade value is low. Alou and Perez: are free agents at the end of the year. Alou would have ot show some extended health to have value, and Perez has tanked his value so far. We can't expect to be getting top flight prospects in return for either of them. Even if we traded both of them, we'd be saving at best $8 million. Castillo is signed through the 2011 season. Nobody's taking that in a trade. There's no sense in giving up on Pelfrey; the Mets need him (badly) to be ready as a starter next year. Easley is signed through this year, we won't get anything better by dumping him. Anderson has no value while injured. He's signed through 2009. Beltran and Heilman are the only two players (that you listed) that could viably bring back meaningful pieces. I'm curious as to what Beltran could bring back in a trade, but my gut feeling is that it's better for the Mets to hold on to him.
  25. Delgado 2 Perez 1.75 Sanchez 1.5 Chavez 1 Schoeneweis 1.25 Smith .5
