  1. Problems tonight: 1. Nick Evans cannot hit major league pitching. Sorry. We need an outfielder, NOW!!! Kenny Lofton? Reggie Sanders? Sammy Sosa? 2. Fernando Tatis was exposed tonight for being unable to play the outfield. Yes, the double, but also the sliding catch in the game where he made it look hard but really he just had gotten a poor jump; also the ground-rule double in the first when he loafed it over towards the ball. Yes, he wouldn't have caught it, but he should've run harder. If it doesn't bounce over, it would've been a triple. 3. In the 8th, when we had a runner on 1st with no out, righties coming up and we *really* needed the ground ball, where was Smith? He didn't throw in the 'pen all night. 4. Another crappy start from Maine.
  2. I'm disappointed by the forecast as well, and while I suspect we may be able to get the tailgate in, I would advocate that it's going to be more effective to move it inside simply to ensure that the gathering actually happens. 1:30 PM at the bar?

  5. Another great bullpen outing. Schoeneweis = the man.

    Heilman is

I think that's a problem for the Shea crowd, not for Heilman. Being booed last year didn't stop Willie from using Schoeneweis, and being booed the last 2 months of last year and this year didn't stop Schoeneweis from being good. Can't see how it'd be any different in this case.

Well, the image problem with Bonds is a tad different than the image problem with Lofton, no? ]On a basic level it'd be great to hear they're concerned that Lofton's age could/would lead to diminished returns and injury -- some of the same problems the mets are looking to solve. Sure. And I agree, but that's the kind of rationale that I'd like to hear as to why we don't want Bobby Abreu to be our left fielder next year, rather than why we shouldn't get Kenny Lofton NOW!!! to play outfield for us. (Obviously, we're not going to give him a multiyear deal). With Nick Evans/Endy Chavez/Fernando Tatis as our outfield options, we've got nowhere to go but up, age of the player notwithstanding.

    Heilman is

I guess it's a mix of #3 and #4. I do think Willie showed a lot of confidence in Heilman by giving him two high-pressure innings late in the game last night. I'd like to see him have a good month before I declare him "all the way back" but as I've said all year, I think the suckage at the beginning of the year was more an anomaly than anything else.
  9. Wait a second, why the hell haven't we signed Kenny Lofton? He's looking for work, he can play the outfield, he can hit. I don't see how it's not a match.

  11. Somehow, I don't think that even the Post could do the "Show us your Tatis." The What Me Worry? seems fairly likely.
  12. I think Santana has a decent shot. And while Wright may have a tougher time given that Larry was hitting .400 or something, I still think it's likely Reyes will win the voting there. Yes, the Marlins are in first place, but they have only 10,000 fans.
  13. Both were 2-5 with a homer and a walk; Castillo's 2-run homer might've given him a slight edge.
  14. I know that in extra inning games the awarding of points can be tough, but Perez gets more points than one voter gave to Heilman, Schoeneweis and Wagner combined?
  15. Heilman 1.85 Tatis 1.45 Chavez 1.45 Castillo 1.25 Reyes 1.1 Schoeneweis 1 Wagner 1 Beltran .5 Wright .4
  16. Thank you Fernando.
  17. SNY is showing clips of the '69 Mets singing "You Gotta Have Heart" on the Ed Sullivan show.
  18. Elster88 wrote: ="Gwreck"]P.S. -- Things I disagreed with: letting Evans hit. Don't forget we have a very depleted bench. Yes, but as I said in my post, he had to bring Schneider into the game anyway, because he hit Chavez for Castro.
  19. Sanchez has 2 Mets plate appearances to date: a K and a HBP.
  20. P.S. -- Things I disagreed with: letting Evans hit. Was fine with Chavez leading off, but since he hit for Castro, Schneider had to come into the game. And in extras, he obviously wanted Chavez in the OF. So not hitting Schneider for Evans (who I maintain cannot hit major league pitching, in the sample size we have) is not a good move.
  21. Johan Santana, potential walk-off hero.

  23. Ok, since I haven't heard any volunteers for food yet, I will be bringing: Hot Dogs Buns Condiments
