  1. Strohmayer was also a pitcher.
  2. The '73 player played in 3 games. He was 1-2 and must've pinch-run (but did not score) in the 3rd game.
  3. Mike Bishop is a very good guess. He got 3 starts in '83 at catcher. Jerry Cram was a pitcher.
  4. Any DH-related idea that is not "immediate and permanent elimination of the DH" is not a good idea.
  5. Nope. Becker got in about 40 games in '98 in the outfield.
  6. Also a good guess, but he, like Chip, also got 2 innings in right field of one game. (Was 2002 for Little. He like, Chip, had no chances). 1. - 1966 2. - 1973 3. - 1982 4. Randy Milligan (AG/DC) - 1987 5. - 1995 6. - 1999 7. Gary Bennett (sharpie) - 2001 8. Gary Matthews, Jr. - 2002 9. Robinson Cancel (metirish) - 2008
  7. Fransisco got 4 innings behind the plate (and went 1-2 to boot). Gary Bennett is a correct answer to the other question. He owns a 1.000 Mets batting average.
  8. In the history of the New York Mets, there have been exactly two non-pitchers who recorded defensive statistics for the Mets but never got a plate appearance: Joe Hietpas, catching one inning in 2004 and ???
  9. Chip got 2 innings in right field last year (no chances).
  10. Looks like when I counted, I forgot about Cancel and Matthews. So there's 9. Whatever. Yes, Hieptas belongs in that other category, non-pitchers without an at-bat. That will be our next trivia question. Let's go chronologically: 1. 2. 3. 4. Randy Milligan (AG/DC) 5. 6. 7. Gary Bennett (sharpie) 8. Gary Matthews, Jr. 9. Robinson Cancel (metirish)
  11. Gary Matthews, Jr. -- he of the DH/outfield nature for our upcoming enemy is one of nine Mets who, despite having pinch-hit or pinch-run, have never appeared on defense for the Mets. How many can you name?
  12. Gary Matthews, Jr. is one of the few Mets who never appeared on defense. His entire Met career consisted of one pinch-hit appearance and one pinch-running appearance, if I recall correctly, at the very beginning of the 2002 season. He made the roster out of spring training but was lost on waivers shortly thereafter.
  13. I wonder if they keep Conti around to keep Pedro happy. SC = Very low
  14. Santana 4 Tatis 1 Castro 1 Chavez 1 Reyes .5
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I agree. The Mets should get it over with already and fire Willie. This if he wins today he stays today approach is nuts. Waitasecond, isn't this "approach" just a product of the media's propagation of rumors that his demise is imminent?
  16. Martinez 2.5 Wright 1.1 Beltran 1.1 Cancel 1.1 Feliciano 1 Sanchez 1 Wagner 1 Easley .6 Castillo .6
  17. Beltran 1.5 Delgado 1.5 Nixon 1 Heilman .5 Castro .5
  18. I'm not sure what Nieto actually does or doesn't do on the team to warrant a firing. Sandy Alomar? Sure. HoJo? Sure. Does Nieto have any actual duties other than first base coach (and perhaps working with the catchers?)?
  19. SteveJRogers wrote: Looks like we have an LA-esque late arriving crowd for Game 2, that is the problem with single admission DHs when they aren't as many as they used to be. Hardly. The place was plenty full during game 1. There are plenty of people, however, who are not going to stick around for a second game when they've got school/work tomorrow. Especially those traveling an hour+ back to Long Island, Jersey or upstate. ]Just like many people probably thought Game 1 was Saturday's make up tickets wise, I'll bet you many people thought Game 2 was a 7pm start and are still heading to the ballpark. I'm having a hard time understanding how people who have tickets that said "Sunday, 1:10 PM" are going to think that the game starting at that time is the makeup game for Saturday.
  20. Nowhere in my post does it say I am unhappy with the Nixon acquisition.
  21. I don't root for the Mets to lose (ever) but if they do, perhaps it will just let the ax finally fall where it may and we can get on with the rest of the season.
  22. It's perhaps generous to call Nixon a "major league hitter" given that he 1. Couldn't get a job with a team this year and 2. Was acquired from an AAA team. (Granted, he's more of a major league hitter than, say, Nick Evans)

  24. I was really responding to Steve's post about "I wonder how many of the callers..."
  25. Generally, the best idea is not to worry about what the morons calling WFAN might be thinking.
