  3. 518 is a real good section. I am a big fan of our seats in 514 (directly behind the plate) but 518 is the closest section in that also gives a good view of the Mets dugout.
  4. The Davis homer appeared to hit on the bridge. The only two homers I can remember being similar in distance were Adam Dunn's early last year (also hit the bridge) and Mark Reynolds' second-deck shot in left-center. Good crowd at the game tonight. Didn't do the "Jose-Jose" when prompted, but did spontaneously after the triple. Heavy booing of Larry, but also of Melky Cabrera which I was fine with. Good razzing of Larry after his first error. Good heckling of the Braves fans, both for the errors and for Heyward's 3 Ks ("I thought this guy was good?" etc.)
  5. Glove slap in the ALCS against the Red Sox in 2004; incident with Toronto with the pop-up where he called "I got it" to distract the fielder a couple of years ago, etc. He doesn't exactly get the benefit of the doubt here.
  6. Small sample size (11 IP in 10 games) but Takashi Saito has better numbers against the Mets than any other ML team he's faced. The Mets have 39 plate appearances against him, with no runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, and 16Ks.
  7. Not reflected there is that 2011 is an option year for Reyes, and presumably the Mets will be picking up his $11m option for that year.

One of my biggest wishes too. The lax umpiring/different rules in the postseason drives me particularly crazy.

I believe that was this game. --- I am strongly in favor of arguing with the umpires. It is my perception that mistakes by umpires largely go unchecked and while they do make the vast majority of calls correctly, there are plenty of missed calls and little or no accountability for umpires who perform poorly. Accordingly, arguing with umpires is -- in my opinion -- essential. They absolutely should be challenged when they make mistakes and it drives me crazy when Jerry (or Willie, or whomever) doesn't get their ass out of the dugout quickly to argue calls. There's obvious drawbacks to having a player argue (ejection, suspension, etc.) but essentially none to having your manager argue, unless you think Chip Hale can't be trusted to run the team for the last 4 innings of a game. I remember flipping through John Feinstein's book about Tom Glavine and Mike Mussina's 2007 season, and there was a revealing passage about what transpired in this game (IGT) (Retrosheet). Tony Randazzo had made several bad calls against the Mets in the series, and after a close play at first, Willie went out to argue. In the book, Feinstein reveals that what Willie said to the umpire was "tell me you missed the call, and I'll just go back to the dugout." Randazzo refused, claimed he got the call right (when of course he totally blew it) and that's what set Willie off and caused him to use the magic word. I thought that was a really good way of handling things by Willie (in that particular instance) and I'd sure like to see some similar fire out of Jerry. A slot trot out of the dugout and a friendly chat with the umpire isn't cutting it.
  11. Luis RBI triple, David RBI single and we're right back in the game.
  12. Reyes begins the rally with a bloop single.

  14. Rod Barajas, tied for team lead in homers.

  16. That was the game at the House of Evil where Bob Davidson overruled the closer umpire who had correctly ruled a ball Delgado hit as a homer.
  17. Setting aside "tones" or perception of meaning (which can sometimes be hard to discern when reading words on the internet rather than hearing them spoken with inflection), I think that offering up opinions and having some disagreement in the discussion thread is a good idea. G-Fafif is correct that telling people to "vote as I do" is exactly what one is suggesting when offering an opinion but that's the way it's supposed to be. So long as no one is being uncivilized about it, lobbying others to change their mind when you think they are mistaken is a big part of meaningful discourse. I suppose it's strange given that in many other threads, the forum is united behind a single cause (the Mets winning) but I think some healthy disagreement is a good thing. I personally enjoy a good debate and would readily welcome the opportunity to be challenged on my voting methods and made to consider whether I had made a mistake, missed a key play or had over-valued or under-valued a reliever's impact. I will, however -- (perhaps a tiny bit disappointingly) -- accept that others don't always welcome that debate. I suppose one of the things that keeps me motivated to remember to do my Schaefer voting is my disagreement with others about how they allocate their points -- and by casting my ballot, making sure that my opinion counts just as much.
