  1. Another couple of runners stranded by Johan. 85 pitches through 4. Oliver, you need to go at least 7 in the nightcap...
  2. Johan strands him on third. Nice job.
  3. Well, um, I sort of figured the Sac Fly was the most likely good outcome, so I guess WP + K is sort of the same thing.
  4. Wow, Rod Barajas just got completely disrespected. At least get us the sac fly here, Rod!
  5. 9 pitches and a full count, but he strikes out Kuroda to strand the runners. 49 pitches in 2 innings. Not good.
  6. Bugs me too.
  7. I pitch to Carroll so the pitcher leads off next inning.
  8. 3 up 3 down in the first for Johan. Kills me that I am not able to make these games.
  9. I never get tired of mentioning Rafael Furcal's first DWI arrest and how as a result, he was forced to acknowledge that he was really 22 and not 19. (Edit: I had forgotten that he had a second DWI arrest, while on probation for the first one. Douchebag.)
  10. The author of that article is supposedly the new "beat writer" that the Wall Street Journal hired to cover the Mets. It's not clear to me exactly how much he is covering the team, when he drops gems like this: "On a miserable night Sunday, the 1-0 rain-shortened win over the Braves drew an announced 27,623, probably about 20,000 more than the number of people at Citi Field." Uh, Mike? Did you poke your head out of the pressbox to check? Were you even there? There weren't 27k people there but there were a lot more than 7,000...

  12. Couple of inaccuracies there: Jackie Robinson statue; the implication that the '69 reunion was put together after the opening of the park (it was a planned promotion before the park opened) but an interesting article. I personally never picked up on a problem with alumni relations but I suppose part of that perception is skewed by the constant presence of Keith, Ron, Bobby Ojeda, Darryl, et al. on the telecasts.

If I had to guess I'd say we're pretty rotten in this stat in recent years but I don't really know. We split last year at least once as I recall We haven't won a home DH since 2006 and over the last ten years, only won 4, 3 of which were in 2000. We also haven't lost a home DH since 2003 either. Home 4 Wins 11 Split 4 Losses Road 2 Wins 2 Splits 4 Losses 2 Stadiums, 1 Day 1 Split 2 Losses
  14. Single admission doubleheaders are not fan-friendly for those holding tickets to the canceled game. Note that the Mets used to offer a refund if a game was postponed and rescheduled as part of a single-admission doubleheader, but no longer. So instead of being able to just get my $$ back for my tickets tonight, I am forced to pick and choose through the remaining "bronze" games this season, and even then am not guaranteed to have a seat of comparable quality to exchange the ticket for.
  15. None of their key players are spring chickens, except Hamels who is 26. Rollins, Utley and Werth are all 31; Howard 30; Victorino 29. By comparison (of ages only), Wright is 27; Reyes turns 27 in June; Pelfrey is 26; Niese 23; even Oliver Perez is only 29 in August. (For what it's worth, Halladay is also a couple of years older than Santana).
  16. (Note: I don't know where this thread goes. We have tons of MFY threads but no Phillies thread? Strange). Anyway, the Phillies gave Ryan Howard a 5 year, $125 million extension (starts in the 2012 season). Looks like they'll be overpaying big time come the end of that contract. Some commentary here: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/3345/phillies-pay-top-dollar-for-rbis Amazing thing I learned: Ryan Howard is already 30 years only and is 2 months *older* than Albert Pujols.
  17. This might get overlooked as neither one pitches this series but Jon Niese and Chad Billingsley were high school teammates.
  18. In these sort of situations (late game on getaway day), I wouldn't be totally opposed to giving the option to the traveling team of whether to play or to cancel. As it was, the Braves landed in St. Louis at 2:30 AM CDT this morning. I would be ok with going to them at 10:30 last night, showing them the radar and letting them choose to wait it out (probably until 12:30 AM or so) and play, understanding that they might not get to St. Louis until 5 or 6 AM, or take the loss and a few more hours of sleep.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Part of me thinks we should award more points for the 20-inning jobbie and fewer for this game. I agree that a 5-inning win does not merit 10 points being handed out, especially when we consider 1. While pitching well, Pelfrey still only completed 5 innings (and was taken out after 5, as Valdes was in the game when the rain started); and 2. The offense didn't light the world on fire (1 run in 5 innings). I gave out 4.75 points and while I don't know if that's perfect, I certainly would think giving out more that 6 or 7 points to be excessive.
  20. That only applies if there is a lead change during the top half of an inning. (Of course, had the Braves hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 6th before the rain started, I would venture to say it would be extremely unlikely for the umpires to make it a rain-shortened 1-0 win for the Mets).
  21. It's absolutely a 5-inning game, as no outs were recorded in the top of the 6th.
  22. In the rain-shortened game, Luis Castillo was 2-3 with 2 steals. Jose Reyes was 1-3 with 1 steal. Don't shortchange Luis!
  23. Pelfrey 1.75 Castillo 1.5 Reyes 1 Bay .5
  24. I may be the only person around who does, but I always enjoy the Sunday night games. The announcement in the middle of the 3rd (?) inning floored me, when the Mets invited people to move down to any open field level (excluding the Delta Club seats) or Excelsior level seat. I can certainly remember games where the ushers have turned a blind eye to upgrades when there was bad weather/extra innings but never a specific invitation. Jayson Heyward this series: 1-9, 3 Ks and tonight a big GIDP. Nice job by the Mets pitching.
  25. Takahashi 2.5 Davis 1.25 Wright 1.25 Bay 1 Reyes 1 Maine 1 Rodriguez 1 Feliciano 1
