  1. 1. The Mets have never lost a game started by Lincecum. 2. Lincecum's ERA against the Mets is higher than against any other National League team.
  2. They got that interview up real fast so there were a LOT of people still there to see/hear it and cheer Rod. His curtain call of sorts. Very nice touch. I'd need to see the replay but my sense was that Whiteside had to have stepped out of the batter's box to even swing at the pitchout and therefore should have been the one called for interference. I sure would've liked to see Jerry at least argue that one. I realize Nieve worked out but with Pelfrey at about 85 pitches, I was not in favor of lifting him in the 8th. Walkoffs are lots of fun!

Forgive me for saying so but this reads to me like a bunch of B.S. Then again, I sense my views on this issue are in the minority.
  4. I never once caught a foul ball at Shea, owing mostly to the fact that I can count on one hand the number of times I ever sat on the field level. The one game we sprang for the really fancy tickets though (during the final season), we went all out and I nailed a lot of Shea firsts (sitting right behind the dugout; having a waiter bring me my food, etc.) and was hopeful that I could also add "catch foul ball" to that list. The foul ball wasn't to be, but I did however have a t-shirt shot directly at me, so I stood up, reached up and snagged it clean, oblivious to the four or five people (not children, either) who were right behind me and also wanted it. One even put his hand on the shirt as I was bringing my arm down and I turned around, gave him the death stare as he says "oh, nice catch" and walked away.
  5. Centerfield wrote: The problem is, the numbers, when presented in this manner, mean almost nothing (and I don't mean any offense to you Gwreck, I know you didn't write the article). Saying more than 380 deaths have followed Taser strikes is silly. It's like saying 380 people died while watching Oprah. It doesn't mean the taser or Oprah, had anything to do with the deaths. In fact, in the next sentence, it indicates that only 30 of those deaths could have possibly resulted from the taser. Meaning that first number, 380, is not only meaningless, but misleading. So we have 30 deaths since 2001. How many times was the taser used? Do we have an overall percentage? How does this compare with other non-lethal methods (tackling, clubbing, rubber bullets etc.)? Until we get some real data, I don't see how one can have an opinion one way or the other. Moreover, unless there is some strong research confirming the safety of tasers, you probably shouldn't be using them at all. No worries, none taken. 15 seconds of googling was used here really to demonstrate the ease of finding a dissenting viewpoint (fully aware of its limitations). I am unlikely to find a peer-reviewed scientific study without a subscription to one of those journals.
  6. Bad team or bad managing?
  7. Very weak. Mark it down now folks, your Foxwoods Resort Casino Turning Point of the Game. 2 runners on with 1 out and we can't get a run in with our 3 and 4 hitters.
  8. Ok. Time to earn your money, Jason.
  9. 1 out and a runner in scoring position. Either Jose or Bay HAS to get a hit sooner or later, right?
  10. Jose! How about a nice single to bring home your friends Angel and Alex?
  11. I am in favor, but sadly, that's next to impossible to enforce.
  12. Matthews Jr. did do something useful, I guess.
  13. Big K of Stubbs but the bases are still loaded.
  14. Uh-oh. Big trouble here.
  15. Perez 2.5 Nieve 2.25 Feliciano 1 Meija 1 Castillo 1.25 Reyes 1 Wright .5 Francoeur .5
  16. Barajas 2.25 Wright 2.25 Bay 1
  17. Maine 2.25 Barajas 1.5 Wright 1.25 Reyes 1.25 Castillo 1 Rodriguez 1 Meija .5 Feliciano .25
  18. Howie was telling a great story on the broadcast (a few weeks ago) about his first visit to Tiger Stadium in 1997 with the Mets for interleague play and how he also had a tremendously warm reception from Ernie at that time.

Here's a differing opinion: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2008/12/05/20081205taser1205.html Also within that article is a claim that "since 2001, there have been more than 380 deaths following police Taser strikes in the United States and 26 in Canada. Medical examiners have ruled that a Taser was a cause, contributing factor or could not be ruled out in more than 30 of those deaths" which certainly contradicts your claim that a taser has "rarely if ever killed someone."
  20. Nice 6th inning by Maine.
  21. Glad to see we cashed in some runs. --- Saw some inexcusable loafing early in the game by Wright, not busting hard on a DP grounder and Maine, failing to properly back up third.
  22. Ernie will always be one of those top-tier announcers for me, forever up there with Vin, Bob, Red Barber and Mel Allen. RIP
