    Boo! 2010

Edgy DC wrote: So, who caught it today? Perez Training Staff Green In decreasing order of severity.
  2. Lots of positive signs: Wright's homer Bay's triple and hustle - he really turned it on around 2nd; he also hustled hard in the 7th to the ball hit deep in the hole that Hanley threw him out on. Barajas' double Santana (of course) Solid relief by Nieve. Some troubling signs: Gary Matthews Jr.'s routes to balls in center. I know he is going to pale in comparison to the 5 years of Carlos Beltran (plus 1 of Cameron before that) we've seen but he was giving me agita each time a ball was hit in his direction. Jacobs and Cora being in the opening day lineup. It's always nice to get the opener. Darryl threw out the first pitch; some group of soldiers appeared to lip-sync both times they sung. The curmudgeon in me wonders how much jet fuel we waste by doing flyovers. Mets fans booed the training staff, Perez, Green and gave a mixed reaction to Jerry. Almost everybody else got solid cheers, the biggest of which went to Wright, Bay, Santana and Rodriguez.
  3. I believe Nolasco was always slated for game #2; it was Anibal Sanchez who Nate Robertson is changing places with.
  4. Free. Entrance on the 1B side of the rotunda.
  5. Marlins changed their rotation around as well, matchups now are: Mon: Santana v. Josh Johnson Wed: Maine v. Ricky Nolasco Thu: Niese v. Nate Robertson

  7. Forgot to mention that Angel Hernandez is umpiring at first base and already made his first terrible call of the year when he ruled that Mike Cameron was doubled-off first base in the 3rd inning (he was clearly safe).
  8. I think it might just be scheduling concerns in not having the Mets and MFYs playing at home during the same time. Also, the last time they were this situation (2005), the Red Sox opened in New York despite being defending champions. Note that the Red Sox' season-opening game in 2008 was played in Japan vs. Oakland.
  9. Watching. Among the "highlights:" Al Yankazeera couldn't be bothered to show Pedro Martinez's ceremonial first pitch. Michael Kay welcomed us to Baltimore for the inaugural season of the "Baseall" season. Those are not typos.
  10. Jerry came over to sign autographs near where I was at the workout day today. I actually got to converse with him for 30 seconds about the lineup and reminded him of how wrong it was to have Cora leading off. His response was that "Lui doesn't like leadoff." He gave me the Jerry laugh when I pointed out that I thought Castillo should do whatever helps the team the most.
  11. Indeed. There were so many of the "right" things in there that I wonder what exactly Cooperstown is left holding. Some of the big highlights: 1. Both World Series trophies, on display in a way which allowed easy taking of photographs with them. 2. Mrs. Payson's hat. 3. Handwritten notes from Stengel about the '64 lineup. 4. Roger Jongewaard's scouting report on Darryl. 5. The shoe polish ball. 6. Seaver's jersey from the '69 series. 7. The little roller, up along first, behind the bag ball. 8. Endy's jersey from "the catch." And many more. They really did a fantastic job here.

    You're Cut

I keep wavering on who I want fired first, but Omar just took a big leap forward today.
  13. I'll be at that game too. Debating the ethics of sticking that bobblehead on eBay to offset the ticket price.
  14. Ceetar wrote: Guess she's afraid we'll know where she's sitting? Uh oh, should I have blacked out the seats In the picture I posted? Only if you don't want someone to steal your tickets. No one should ever post a picture of any event ticket online without obscuring seat numbers and barcodes.
  15. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I'm supposing that cheapskate Freddy was waiting for the pricing on this kind of print run to fall below that of the old fashioned tickets. Yeah, but ask yourself: how did they offset the cost? The answer: They no longer give media guides out to the Season/Plan ticket holders. In all seriousness, the Mets actually sent a letter to their season/plan holders saying that because of a "Going Green" initiative, they are no longer going to give the Media Guide out and instead give access to an "online" version, "when available." (Unsaid in the letter is that no other team is doing this -- most teams are instead giving out a coupon to be redeemed for a Guide at the ballpark -- or that the guide is already available online, and the Mets just can't be bothered to figure out how to give the online access to their "valued" customers).
  16. 18. Thanks KC. Mighty generous of you, and I think the better half *will* be able to make the game after all. Sent you a PM.
  19. They did protest MTV's airing of the show.

(Prom Club 430 row 2 - my Sunday seats) Would love to take 'em but can only use one of the two seats (the better half is busy that night). Happy to take in the game with another CPFer if they want...
  21. The seats "between the bases" are the $300/seat tickets that are on the field level but are behind the super-expensive seats that make up the first 15? rows.
  22. That's all fine and good but the truth is that the Bay trade was not something that could be obviously identified at the time as a bad trade.
  23. G-Fafif wrote: Sharing season preview thoughts, along with a few other fine bloggers, on the NY Times Bats blog here. Good stuff there. I think it is unfair, however, to claim that you want Jason Bay's past seven seasons back and that he "shouldn't have been traded for Steve Reed."
