Many teams, including the Mets, charge extra for tickets for the home opener and/or sell the game out. If those tickets are now for a new game that is no longer the home opener, that's a big problem.
  3. Jered Weaver for the Angels. Padres is up in the air as Mat Latos was scratched from his most recent ST start and might miss opening day.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: So what are nearly half the home teams doing on the first Saturday in April? Why scheduling at night of course! It's not so bad when you're in Miami like the Mets (although I'd still prefer day) or in Tampa, or Arlington Texas. But why the fuck are the Phillies messing around with a Sat night game? Same goes for the games in Cincinnati, in Denver, and in Oakland. 60 and sunny? Nah, we'd rather stick our players and fans in 42 degree weather in the dark thank you. Morons! The reasoning for this has been discussed here before. The Saturday games are scheduled at night to "protect" the Friday home opener. In the event of a Friday rainout, the game moves to Saturday afternoon and is still the home opener.

Not in an Ollie sense so much as I think it represented the death of the would-be 06 renaissance, the death of Shea Stadium, and the figurative shark over which the franchise jumped. I haven't felt the same about the Mets since. To be honest I've kind of been mad at them and feel like they deserve so much of the suffering they've endured. How depressing. Yet I agree 98%. Went back and looked at that game. Top of the 10th, Luis Ayala retires the first two batters before allowing, in order, single, double and home run. Mets lose 9-6.
  9. I agree, it's one of those that I would most like them to replay, along with the July 4th game in Atlanta in '85. SNY does a pretty poor job with the Mets Classics (as G-Fafif has done an excellent job documenting).
  10. Everybody remembers the worst one. I remember him playing pretty well when he came over to the Mets from the Twins in 2007.

There's no reason why a fan can't have enjoyable seating, savory food choices and a hall of fame exhibit. But I'd say that seating options come first. Of course I agree that the options aren't mutually exclusive in theory; I think they're mutually exclusive at Citi Field. This also would likely be less of an issue if either A. the Mets' last two seasons hadn't gone in the toilet (preceded by two good seasons with bad endings); and b. The economy hadn't gone in the toilet.
  13. It's still a money thing. People can do without the tangible hall of fame, the good food, the good beer, the legroom/more comfortable seat, etc. if they can buy a good seat at a decent price. That's gone now.
  14. I think the fourth member of Team Wright is Dave Racaniello. My guess is that R.A.'s shirt says "Dickster" which is a nickname we can thank Jeff Francoeur for.
  15. I guess these guys really bought into Terry's Sunday-night bowling plan. Team Wright: Team Izzy: Can anyone identify the 4th member of Team Izzy? I see Davis, Thole, Izzy and someone else.
  16. G-Fafif wrote: The Coliseum is only 5.83 miles from the Queens border? Seems further. The Easternmost point in NYC is at the intersection of Union Turnpike and Langdale Street in Glen Oaks, Queens. From there, it's 6.1 miles (as the crow files) but over 10 miles by the fastest driving route.
  17. Truth: I had actually forgotten about that Willie quote. But there is something to the concept of telling everyone to 'shove it' when success (eventally? finally?) comes your way.
  18. C'mon. It is funny. At least a little bit. Stuff like this just makes the champagne taste sweeter when we get our next WS Championship.
  19. Aren't activities with a high risk of injury (playing contact sports; riding motorcycles) prohibited in his contract? See Boone, Aaron; Kent, Jeff, etc etc.
  20. Emaus looked bad when I saw him in person on Saturday, with a couple of mis-plays that weren't errors in your boxscore.
  21. They had guest commentators Lou Pineilla and some scrub shortstop for the MFYs who I can't remember the name of. Watched about 15 minutes and turned it off.
  22. Ceetar wrote: grain of salt for the source (Craig Carton) But he was apparantly reading something that said the Mets got 80% renewals on season tickets. That may well be right. Note that that's still net decline, however: as renewals in 2010 were down off 2009 levels.
  23. As you mentioned -- the stadium was a ghost town in September, even though tons of tickets had obviously been sold in advance. I think we can safely presume that those numbers will continue to fall (how far, I'm not sure) with each successive crappy season. Package (season/plan) sales will drop a certain amount for 2011 as compared to 2010, and perhaps farther if 2011 is not a successful season.
