  1. I was surprised to see the Mets draw that Sunday night game prior to the all-star break again. The basic agreement with the players' union prohibits a team from playing in that particular slot more than once for the period 2007-2011, "except as shall be necessary to fulfill existing contractual or promotional commitments to ESPN." Note that they were last playing this game in 2008, when travel time to the All-Star game was minimal.

  3. Now, if only television viewers would just want to leave behind the sunshine of a May afternoon for their television sets as well...

This game was the high point of the 2008 season, to put us at 79-61. We'd go 10-11 the rest of the way and Philadelphia would go 16-6.

Millan had 193, from 10/2/74 (last day of that season) to 5/11/76. Olerud's longest streak was 160, from 9/15/97 to 9/9/98. I had remembered him having a season in which he played 162 games but had forgotten it was 1999 so it wasn't consecutive that year.
  8. Didn't think you were disparaging. My biggest frustration with the seats was that there were more seats than there were purchasers, yet the price was jacked up artificially high and there was no real way for a market correction to happen, especially because the seats were sold under the guise that the money went to charity. I just wanted some seats, and I could've swung $500 at the time, maybe, but close to $1000 (once the tax and shipping were added on) was just excessive for me. Fortunately there's a second chance now.
  9. I guess it depends why you want the item. Is it cool to have because it's scarce? Or is it cool to have because it's a tangible reminder of precious memories?
  10. A while ago, I tried to figure out exactly how many seats they really had for sale. Remember that for every pair of seats they sold, one seat had to go unused because of the brackets they had in common between them. This was a particular factor with the orange seats, given how many were in rows of 4, meaning that only 2 of each 4 got sold. My guess is that they had maybe 15,000 pairs of seats total to sell, and they probably sold most of them right at the beginning of sales. I don't imagine they have a ton left over.
  11. Apparently the Mets have stopped selling them at the price of $900+ (that's $869 plus tax and shipping). These had been available on Mets.com for the past few years. I just couldn't justify the price. However, you can now get pairs of seats for $600 on eBay, from the company that removed them from the stadium. Sounds like they still have a bunch sitting around the warehouse. They are $600, no tax, free shipping. Check it out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220695459213
  12. In all seriousness, was Ben Grimm's answer of John Olerud not correct? That would be my legitimate guess.
  13. Ken MacKenzie, an original Met, also attended Yale.
  14. Kaz Matsui. (note how the question didn't specify "[u:2dih1d9o]MLB[/u:2dih1d9o] consecutive games")
  15. To clarify: 1. Actually, I've been on record here numerous times that conclusive evidence (ie. failed test for PEDs once MLB implemented their testing program) is, in my opinion, sufficient reason to keep an otherwise-deserving player out of the Hall of Fame for those so inclined and have specifically cited Palmeiro as the obvious example. 2. You are correct that Sosa was reported by the NY Times to be on a list of positive steroids tests in 2003, at time when testing was done on an anonymous survey basis. You may recall that a Federal Court eventually ruled that the federal prosecutors who seized that information acted illegally. Sosa, of course, failed no such tests once baseball was doing so publicly and with penalties for those caught. 3. My personal belief is that the line-drawing re: PED users and hall of fame eligibility is misguided, but that's people's prerogative. My strongest objection is to what I believe to be specious logic when drawing those lines. I have no interest in a fight; just well-reasoned discussion (and debate).
  16. Vic Sage wrote: (my criteria: admission, positive test, Mitchell report, or other evidence, not mere rumors) That's a helluva criteria. Can you define how "other evidence" differs from "mere rumors" and provide an example? Perhaps with Sosa, as he wasn't in the Mitchell Report but is on your "PEDs" list.
  17. The Mets' official statement: "All of us at the Mets congratulate Roberto Alomar on baseballs most prestigious honor, his well-deserved election into the Hall of Fame."

Do you mean this guy? If so, nice pickup. I assure you he wasn't who I was thinking of. The one remaining correct answer played entirely in the 20th century.

Yes, not counting Negro league teams. Gossage (9) and Perry (8) are correct. Morgan (5) is not.

Alomar played for seven different franchises during his career. That's a lot, but not the record for the Hall of Fame. By my calculations, there are 4 Hall of Famers who played for more. Who are they?

Alomar will get Toronto because: 1. 5 seasons. Only 3 each in Cleveland and Baltimore. 2. 2 World Series championships
  25. Shea has nothing to do with this. Your data is consistent with what was common knowledge: that Shea was not a HR hitter's park. Yeah, it was more of a counterpoint to your gratuitous shot at the Wilpons and the idea that he's a "Citi Field" casualty (emphasis added).
