  1. Well…you have. We can be fair about this too. Luis Robert Jr. entered the day leading the league in on-base percentage and he went 1-3 with a walk today. Not a lot of complaints with his approach. I’ve also been generally pleased with Alvarez and Vientos had several good games. Bichette and Lindor and Semien? Not so much.
  2. Fun fact: this is a totally different guy than the one on the Dodgers. He just happens to have the same exact name and play the same exact position. Great KTE.
  3. I’m not at all astonished. The offense was put together on the hope/assumption that multiple guys would improve/return to form/could repeat what they did in a relatively small sample size last year. And of course that was before the best player went on the IL.
  4. Offense is terrible, but also: Mets learned in a powerful way tonight why it helps to have real outfielders playing in the outfield.
  5. It’s only been 10 games, but he’s not hitting at all. After his great opening day (1-3, 2 walks, a homer) there’s been a total of two hits and 3 walks in the next 9 games. The defense is solid (and he’s looked ok at all three outfield positions) but if he’s not hitting, how long before we worry?
  6. A couple thoughts: 1. My understanding is that the 40-man roster is doesn’t have 40 men on it right now - only 38. So adding, say, Tommy Pham to that roster isn’t a big problem. 2. I understood that Melendez was playing regularly at Syracuse. I did see he had a .613 OPS in 30 PAs, so not exactly good in not exactly a meaningful sample size. 3. I would have called up Morabito if Pham isn’t ready to go yet. I’d also have considered Clifford (who isn’t hitting much in Syracuse).
  7. Ehh. Isn’t Arenado a bit of a douchebag? -Told the Cardinals after 2024 that he’d accept a trade to a very specific set of teams, the Cardinals work out a trade to one of those teams (Houston) and then Arenado says “just kidding, nope, won’t accept that.” -Wouldn't play in 2021 in Canada because of vaccine nonsense. -Needlessly escalated shit with the Mets in 2022 when he got a slightly-inside fastball.
  8. It was the Cubs. One of Wilhelm’s 3 games with Chicago.
  9. Wagner is correct for the last Piazza answer. I was a little surprised he never got Mussina.
  10. Piazza did not get Lee Smith (or Gossage).
  11. This might be better answered by JCL but I believe the only numbers that were never reissued after a player left the Mets are 5, 41, and 48.
  12. Just looking for one more Piazza victim. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins 4. Bunning 5. Gibson 6. Blyleven 7. Perry Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Sutton Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Bunning 7. Perry Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins 2. Hunter 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Gibson 6. Sutton 7. Wilhelm Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux 5. Hoffman 6. Halladay Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton 2. Jenkins 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Koufax 6. Drysdale 7. Perry Incorrect: Pedro Martinez Sabathia Eckersely Sutter Seaver Spahn Gossage
  13. Best starting pitchers (using BBREF’s JAWS ranking) to debut between 1970 and 1985: Clemens Blyleven Rick Reuschel Brett Saberhagen Dave Stieb Orel Hershisher Frank Tanana Mark Langston Frank Viola Jimmy Key
  14. Wayne Garrett hit a walk-off homer off Wilhelm on September 28, 1970 in the bottom of the 12th inning. It was the only homer he ever allowed to a Met. Could you name the team Wilhem was pitching for? I could not before doing this Quiz.
  15. Spahn did give up a few homers to the Mets - including to Al Jackson - but not to the players here.
  16. Melendez may well be out of options, But he’s also not exactly a great hitter and is exactly the sort of guy who is likely to clear waivers if he gets sent down. The oddity with calling up Mauricio is that the very point of keeping him at AAA was to get him regular playing time, and he doesn’t have any path to regular playing time on the major league roster, even with Soto injured.
  17. I was being somewhat facetious. I of course know why Carl Pohlad (net worth of >$3B in 2009) didn’t want to spend the money for a retractable roof.
  18. It’s not just TV money, it’s also attendance. Move all the weeknight games to afternoon and people with jobs aren’t going to come. The first weeknight series of the year is usually the lowest-selling series but there’s still a lot of people being inconvenienced with a last-minute change (and no, refunds will not be offered). As for Minnesota, I’ve never been quite able to understand why they willingly went back to a fully-outdoor stadium.
  19. The White Sox and Guardians also moved up the start times of their games on Tuesday. Boston, Pittsburgh, and Washington have not (yet) done so. And, this is one of the odd weeks where the Yankees are also home at the same time as the Mets and haven’t made any change.
  20. Yeah, it was seeming too cumbersome with having to guess Jenkins or Marichal or Carlton for each of six different guys. Perry is correct: Agee, Kranepool, and Swoboda all got him. Two answers left: one for Piazza, one for Garrett.
  21. Mauricio is an odd choice since he’s not going to play over Bichette or Lindor, he’s probably not going to play over Semien, he doesn’t play first base, and DH is pretty clogged right now with Vientos too hot to sit and Polanco maybe not able to play the field much. Mauricio last played left field in 2023 (26 games in Syracuse).
  22. The Tuesday 4/7 and Wednesday 4/8 games have been both moved up to 4:10 starts because of expected cold temperatures. I can’t recall this ever happening before for April games.
  23. Good answers here. Piazza got Halladay in June 1999, Halladay’s rookie year. Kranepool’s final homer of his career was off Blyleven in September 1979, during Bert’s brief stint in the National League. 3 more total pitchers on the the board. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins 4. Bunning 5. Gibson 6. Blyleven Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Sutton Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Bunning Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins 2. Hunter 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Gibson 6. Sutton Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux 5. Hoffman 6. Halladay Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton 2. Jenkins 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Koufax 6. Drysdale Incorrect: Pedro Martinez Sabathia Eckersely Sutter Seaver
  24. Those three are all correct. I’ve also added Gibson, Carlton, Sutton, and Bunning to the players who have them (since multiple guys got each pitcher). Takeaway: if a pitcher’s been guessed, he shows up here. But there are still a few tough answers out there. Kranepool (7) 1. Marichal 2. Niekro 3. Jenkins 4. Bunning 5. Gibson Milner (6) 1. Carlton 2. Gibson 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Sutton Agee (7) 1. Palmer 2. Carlton 3. Jenkins 4. Niekro 5. Marichal 6. Bunning Garrett (7) 1. Jenkins 2. Hunter 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Gibson 6. Sutton Piazza (7) 1. Smoltz 2. Randy Johnson 3. Glavine 4. Maddux 5. Hoffman Swoboda (7) 1. Carlton 2. Jenkins 3. Niekro 4. Marichal 5. Koufax 6. Drysdale Incorrect: Pedro Martinez Sabathia Eckersely Sutter
  25. It’s happened fairly frequently and there are lots of video clips out there but I can’t find one for a game involving the Mets.
