Victor is #54 on the Rays’ all time list with 4.9 WAR. Dave Kingman had 7.4 WAR for the Cubs (3.0 for the Mets) and is not on the list. Love the D’Amico guess but it was only 5.8 WAR with the Brewers.

DeRosa off the hook with an Italy win.

Grieve is…not on the top 100 Senators/Rangers list. Also, it appears that Richie Ashburn is correct. For some reason Bobby Abreu was showing up in this table (he’s next after Asbhurn on the Mets/Phillies list). So someone gets retroactive credit here. Proofreader is getting fired. Hebner had 23 WAR for Pittsburgh, a respectable #41 on their all-time list.
-
Randy Jones actually had 20.7 pitching WAR for San Diego but his ineptitude with the bat pushes him down to 19.8 overall and #11 on the Padres list. Randy had -1.9 WAR with the Mets.

Are we sure that’s the case? Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic had an article today saying that DeRosa used the “B” lineup in the game against Italy (Cal Raleigh, Bryce Harper, Alex Bregman, Brice Turang all sat) and even had Clayton Kershaw warming in the pen (instead of Mason Miller) in a key spot. She noted there was social media speculation that maybe DeRosa figured out the issue during the game (and which is why Miller eventually got up and entered the game).

Interesting! The Baseball-Reference team index page for Houston (https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/) has a “Top 24 players” section with Mike Scott at #18, 23.8 WAR and Nolan Ryan at #20, 23.4 WAR. That’s where the Scott answer was picked from; the “24.8” in the chart must have been a typo. The Baseball-Reference leaders page for Astros pitchers, (https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/HOU/leaders_pitch_50.shtml) has Ryan at 25.4 pitching WAR, Scott at 24.8. Scott had -1.0 WAR as a Houston batter and Ryan had -2.0 WAR as a Houston batter, which was factored in for the overall team rankings.
-
Dunston, Bass, Bowa, Candelaria, Kazmir, and Ryan are all incorrect. Kazmir would have been a correct answer (he’s #10 on the Rays’ leaderboard) but he never reached the majors with the Mets.

Lots of fun with the last quiz, so adding in here its harder cousin. Can you name the highest entry on each franchise’s WAR leaderboard to have also played for the Mets? Example: Yogi Berra has the most WAR as a Yankee (#7 on that franchise list) of any player who was also a Met. What makes this hard is that all the easy/obvious answers came out in the earlier quiz: [th]Franchise Rank[/th][th]Franchise[/th][th]Player[/th][th]Other Franchise WAR[/th][th]Mets WAR[/th]1GiantsMays154.61.61NationalsCarter55.811.42AthleticsHenderson72.71.32RoyalsAppier47.13.53AngelsFregosi45.91.63Blue JaysBautista38.41.23BravesSpahn91.90.04DodgersSnider65.41.24MarlinsCastillo22.42.94OriolesMurray56.62.86CardinalsBoyer58.13.67Phillies47.2-0.57YankeesBerra59.7-0.18Padres20.4-0.28Red SoxMartinez53.88.19MarinersCano23.91.49TigersVerlander56.62.110Rangers31.21.213Pirates42.3-0.513White SoxVentura39.41115Brewers190.116Diamondbacks14.30.117Reds39.54.717TwinsSantana36.115.318Astros24.8-0.721Rays10.5-0.721Rockies11.80.836Guardians28.327.357Cubs21.81.7

Feels like these are two separate questions. Diaz’s absence is still the biggest head-scratcher because there was no good reason to not re-sign him. Everyone else’s absence I can reconcile with a plan to win except Diaz. The “Metliest” absence is easily Pete. Nimmo in second place but Pete both was a constant presence for 7 seasons AND owns significant Mets records.
