  1. I understand why there's no Jose Reyes or Carlos Beltran in there, but I don't know why Billy Wagner is on Armando Benitez's ticket.
  2. Fantastic KTE. Would be a great team to root for, if not for Lueke.
  3. Josh Thole arguing strongly with the umpire re: called third strike. Not a good idea, given that Nickeas and Rottino are out of the game.
  4. An aggressive play on a grounder to shortstop, throwing to third instead of first. Ike was called out on a very close play.
  5. Not in favor of the Quintanilla bunt.
  6. Yeah, really. For fuck's sake here, do something productive Ike.
  7. Personally, I'd plunk Teixeira with the 100 mph fastball, and then count on Rodriguez either striking out or grounding into the double play. Not a sound strategy, you say? I don't see other things working so well.
  8. This game starts at 1:05 EDT. It's the game later this month at Citi Field that is the Sunday night ESPN game.
  9. I'm just brimming with confidence here.
  10. Wow. Bay, Davis, Torres. Can we just cut them all?
  11. Thank the fucking lord. Now we just need to plunk Swisher. You're up, Elvin.

I'd much rather an 8pm game. 5pm I might still be doing weekend things, by 8 it's much more likely I'm home and done with whatever I had planned and can sit and watch the game. You have missed the point (and the thread title). 5:00 on Sunday is a nice time for the game to start if you are attending the game.
  13. In fairness, a 5:00 start (game is in Los Angeles) is actually a quite civilized time for a game on a Sunday.
  14. [crossout:3r5ssbeh]Ike Davis[/crossout:3r5ssbeh] Josh Thole, we need a two-run homer...NOW!!!
  15. Gonna need another pinch-hit homer here Jordanny.

Kingman was considered perhaps the most intransigent man of his time (at least after Dick Allen retired), and even he bunted against the shift a few times a year. I recall Delgado bunting against the shift exactly once as a Met. He got an easy single out of it. No idea why he didn't ever try again.
  17. Let's all hope the Mets don't take any cues from what hosts on WFAN think. I don't want Ike to "ask" to be sent down. It's abundantly clear that doing so is best for the team, so that's what they should do. Ike has a contract and he'll play where the Mets tell him to.
  18. #1 "God Bless America" --- #999 Everything else Also: 2. Keeping score. We have online pitch by pitch accounts of every game available on your phone in real time. You're wrong on this issue. Additionally, cellular service is something between horrible and non-existent at most parks. Aside from San Francisco, I don't think there is free wifi in any of the parks.
  19. Duda and Murphy are plenty capable, no?
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think being coy does affect his job performance. He's supposed to clearly describe what is going on to his audience. What exactly is unclear about the following? "The Cardinals haven't had a hit today." "The Mets have all eight hits in the game." "The only Cardinal baserunners were from Santana's four walks." It's not "coyness." It's using a variety of different phrasings. Howie's not the Gameday app.
  21. Needed a hit there from Torres, not a sac fly. Now David just needs to hit a two-run homer.
  22. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Letting the idea of a jinx influence your job performance is stupid if you're a ballplayer; it's just plain embarrassing if you're a broadcaster. *No hyperbole. But did Howie Rose let it affect his job performance? Of course not. If the radio listeners are too stupid to figure it out with Howie saying it eight different ways OTHER than the exact phrase "no-hitter," then, well, too bad.
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Don't worry about the bullpen. Egbert's fresh. Thought he was starting Wednesday.
