  2. I don't understand the significance of the picture.
  3. The Phillies aren't opening with interleague play. Their first games are on the road at Atlanta. Their home opener is against the Royals. My understanding is that the interleague games will be minimized in April and August/September. As you can see from that Phillies schedule, they have no interleague games in August or September.

  5. Felix Hernandez pitches his third 1-0 shutout win of August. I'm still mad at him for hitting that grand slam off Johan...but he's a hell of a pitcher otherwise.
  6. Yes, that's what I acknowledged earlier. Presumably that problem has been deferred to 2015, which is when the rotation comes back around to the NL East-AL East matchup.
  7. Ceetar wrote: wait, lots of information where? all I saw was a tweetpic The picture is of the Phillies' 2013 schedule. Look at the games, count them up, make the appropriate logical deductions and you can figure out how the schedule is made. the way I read the CBA, the Mets and Yankees would still play the normal games against each other as the interleague divisional stuff says. and they'd then retain the rivalry stuff, able to 'choose' (or be selected as however the schedule falls?) a 3 games series or 2 and 2. I think you are confused. The Mets vs. Yankees games are the "rivalry" games. I have no idea what you mean by "the normal games against each other." I thought the rest of the schedule, outside the rivalry, was goingto be balanced by division? Doesn't look that way.
  8. Things we don't know: 1. What AL Central team will the Mets play two series against? It won't be Cleveland. Based on the information Rubin provided above, it may well be Kansas City. 2. All of the natural rivalries are in the same division (ie. NL East/AL East). What happens in 2015 when the interleague rotation calls for the NL East to play the AL East?
  9. Lots of useful information there. Intraleague 3 home and 3 road series against each of the 4 teams in your division. 19 games against each for a total of 76. 1 home and 1 road series against each of the other 10 teams in your league. Either 6 or 7 games against each team, total of 66. Interleague 20 games total. Against your specified division: 1 series of 3 games against 4 teams (either home or road). 2 series of 2 games each (home and road) against 1 team. Against your "natural rival:" 4 games (2 home/2 road). "Natural Rivalries" Known: 1. NYM-NYY 2. WAS-BAL 3. MIA-TAM 4. PHI-BOS 5. CIN-CLE 6. CHC-CHW 7. MIL-MIN 8. STL-KC 9. SF-OAK 10. LAD-LAA --- Projected 11. ATL-TOR 12. PIT-DET 13. SEA-SD 14. COL/ARZ - TEX/HOU 15. COL/ARZ - TEX/HOU Edit: formatting
  10. Again, this isn't the "predict what the Mets will do" thread.

Edgy DC wrote: I've missed a lot of baseball the last week, so maybe I've missed the most telling moments ever, but the idea that Torres is done seems premature when when we gots nobody elses who plays centerfield. Plus he's under control. Torres is 34. This is his second straight season of putting up a 85 OPS+. He's making $2.7 Million this year, so that means at least $3, maybe $3.5 million after arbitration. It's perfectly clear to me that he's 1. Getting non-tendered and 2. Not part of a future winning plan for the Mets as anything more than a bench player. We have important outfield bats to get in the lineup and evaluate who might be part of the future (Duda, Nieuwenhuis, Den Dekker, Valdespin, whomever). Sorry Andres, no room for you. I don't think the Mets will bench him for the rest of the year but this is the "desperate moves" thread, after all.
  12. I'm on board with most of the ideas suggested here. I'd suggest that Daniel Murphy be given time in the outfield again. If we're not going to trade him, time for him to become more valuable as a utility guy who can fill in anywhere, and that means learning how to play left field again. Maybe shortstop too. Valdespin can play second base every day. Duda is recalled immediately and plays every inning of every game from here on out. Same thing with Nieuwenhuis (once healthy). Sorry to Jason Bay and Andres Torres, I guess you're not playing ever again this year. I just don't care, though, seeing as how you won't be back next year.
  13. The "bigger AAA affiliates than their parent" is really just a semantics thing because that's determining population based on city limits, not metropolitan area. The actual city of Cincinnati may be smaller than the city of Louisville but the metro area is a million people larger in Cincinnati.
  14. You don't think there's any chance they leave this lefty in to face Hairston, is there? No? Shucks.
  15. The Mets have 13 outfield assists, tied with the Giants for 28th in MLB this year. Only Miami (12) and San Diego (11) have fewer. Torres 5 Duda 3 Bay 2 Baxter 1 Hairston 1 Valdespin 1
  16. They sent out playoff invoices to their season ticket holders.

  18. Adam Rubin reports that the Mets are expected to go to Cleveland and Minnesota next year, along with the White Sox playing the Mets in Flushing for the first time ever.
  19. Good job by Johan. Found it interesting that Gary/Ron made a point of taking about how Johan was "not hurt" in his crappy start last time out.
  20. Nicely done. No shame in rooting for the Braves as the lesser of evils. With the exception of Larry, all the former perpetrators from the Mets-Braves are long gone. The division title streak stopped a long time ago, and we've had to hate the Phillies for quite a while now. My animosity towards them has cooled quite a bit, I will reveal. Side question for those in the DC area: How does the split run in fans between the Orioles and the Nationals? Did the Nationals take over a substantial part of the Oriole fanbase when they came to town? Are they capturing some of those fans now due to a bandwagon effect?
  21. My gameday is broken. It says Jason Bay hit an opposite field home run.
  22. You don't give away prospects (however loosely that term may apply to Beato) for EVALUATION time for a platoon/backup catcher. Seriously?
  23. Felix Hernandez perfect through 8 innings for Seattle (vs. Tampa)
  24. Ceetar wrote: Maybe a couple of adjustments and they don't sink next year. If by "a couple of adjustments" you mean "a couple of better players." The problem with your theory is that it depends on average players all having a good year all at the same time. I don't think that's a responsible strategy if you want to be in meaningful contention.
  25. But, again, there is no way any player would sign an incentive clause based on pitcher wins.
