  1. I understand the theory behind that voting model but it fails in that it does not adjust for that the possibility of different game circumstances. If the Mets win a game 1-0, with 7 shutout innings from Dickey, plus 1 each from Rauch and Francisco, and have one runner reach base (a solo homer) then the batter hitting that homer would necessarily get five points, and Dickey/Rauch/Francisco would split the remaining five. The same batter who goes 1-4 with a solo homer in a 10-3 Met win is not going to get five points.

  3. I would be open to platooning Bay and Ike Davis. That might be an improvement over what we have now.
  4. Elvin Ramirez, 932
  5. Shulman just issued the correction. It was 1976 that the CARDINALS were last shut out three games in a row.
  6. Shulman reported the stat incorrectly. The Mets last shutout a single opponent three games in a row was May 25-27, 2010. The Mets' last three complete-game shutouts in a row were April 12, 14 and 15, 1988. In fairness, the third of those games was a rain-shortened 6-inning game. they were not all against the same opponent. The Mets did not have 3 consecutive shutouts in 1976, so I don't know what he is talking about.

  9. 8:00 start tonight on ESPN. John Franco HOF induction at 7:30 (no broadcast).
  10. Put it in the books, again.
  11. Beltran doubles to lead off the second. "And so, in the eight thousandth and twenty-first game in the history of the New York Mets...no perfect games." -- Howie Rose
  12. Rubin tweeted that it may have been RAMON Ramirez, not Elvin, who got hurt in the celebration.

  16. I have been sick all week really, with this stupid sore throat/cold/whatever that won't go away and the doctor says isn't an infection so antibiotics aren't gonna do anything. I had even briefly considered not going. Selfishly, one of my biggest fears was that by choosing to not go to (very many) games this year, I might miss what happened tonight. To answer a question from before, I don't know if the stadium really did shake but it felt like it might have, just a tiny bit. I was definitely the loudest I had ever heard the park (the only thing comparable was David's game-tying homer at the first ever game at the stadium). I was so pleasantly surprised to see how everybody in the crowd got it. As said above, to have the Mets fans united again around something positive is so refreshing. I haven't walked out of a game feeling like this since the Mets were last in the playoffs.

  18. Wow. If you were wondering: yes, Citi Field can get loud.
  19. Checking in here from Section 328 tonight. Everybody doing ok? Not so much? Same here.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: As for "extremely poor" performance, isn't it more fair to call the showing "disappointing," "uninspiring" or maybe "lackluster"? I don't think "extremely poor" was an unfair description. The team has eight straight years of over seventy wins. If they make it a ninth this year (and it certainly looks like they will), that'll tie them for the longest such streak in team history. True, the Mets are better than they have been in the past. But seventy wins itself is certainly not "good," and I'm not uncomfortable with deeming seventy wins "poor." If folks don't want to support such a team, that's great. But it helps to keep perspective. Folks do want to support such a team. The problem is that tickets to that team are priced as if the team has a regular streak of seasons with 82 or more wins.
  21. He's probably the top CFer in Mets history. Only Darryl could be considered a better outfielder in Mets history, and even that's debatable. -- Beltran's HOF cap: It pretty much has to be the Mets, right? He spent about the same amount of time here as he did in Kansas City but his accomplishments here were clearly greater. I think he needs a couple more good seasons before he gets there, though. The 300 HRs/300 SBs combination helps, certainly.
  22. There were times I felt like, What do I have to do in order to be one of their favorites? Fans choose who they want to cheer for. Im a quiet player. Youre never going to see me out there showing a lot of emotion. I am who I am. When you try to be someone else then youre being fake to yourself, and I dont like to do that. I dont know how its going to be [tonight]. Theyll decide if they want to cheer or boo. (Quotes taken from this NY Post Story). Given that I was profoundly disheartened by how the Mets fans treated Jose Reyes upon his return, I would probably be apoplectic tonight except of course that so many fans of this team showed what idiots they were while Beltran was actually here. Welcome back Carlos. At least a few of us appreciated you for what you were: one of the greatest and most talented players to ever play for this team. Edit: screwed up the BB Code
  23. Objectively, the reasons for replacing Shea all made sense, whether it was seat comfort, aesthetics or financial potential. Most people probably would have embraced the new stadium had the Mets not screwed up so many things with the transition in one way or another. If it wasn't the lack of Mets' history in the park, or the way ticket plans were handled, or the offensive name, it was the lack of affordable seating, or the obstructed view seats. Add in the teams' extremely poor performance on the field, and they reaped what they sowed. I am curious what the new place will be like when (if) the Mets start winning consistently.
  24. Nice KTE. I saw that Jaime Garcia (supposed to start Friday) was scratched and the Cardinals moved everyone back a day, so we get Wainwright on Friday instead. Carlos' 15 homers lead the NL.
