  1. I don't really care how we score the runs, just as long as we score them. Let's go Lagares!
  2. Some connection with the all-star game this year. I voted for the same four. The other choices, if I recall correctly, were Doc, Darryl, Gary Carter and John Franco.

  4. Put it in the books!
  5. Howie reporting that Mejia went to the clubhouse with Ray Ramirez.
  6. They got rid of the troughs. The problem with the bathroom lines is apparently that they didn't finish renovating all of the bathrooms in time and some of them weren't open.
  7. Michael Cuddyer, 985
  8. Scherzer has always had a real problem with keeping his pitch counts in check. Nice start to the season by Curtis.
  9. I'm really not sad to hear that Kimbrel's no longer in our division.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, I guess that didn't float to the top because it was minor leaguer-for-minor leaguer, with neither ultimately ever playing for the Mets, so the UMDB didn't record it. Makes sense. I only remembered it because of some stupid argument years ago about the Mets failing to hold on to Bautista (when in fact he was never really Mets property).
  11. You are missing one leg of the July 30, 2004 trades. The Mets traded Justin Huber to the Royals to get Bautista so that he could be put in the package going to the Pirates for Benson.
  12. 83-79, 3rd place, no playoffs (narrowly miss the second wildcard)
  13. The only thing I see really keeping the Mets from hitting 1000 this year is the extremely low number of new faces on the opening day roster. I see Cuddyer, Mayberry and maybe 2 relievers as the only new Mets at the start of the year. Also, this list has Mike DeJean as debuting on December 20, 2004 (I think it should be July) Damion Easley is listed as debuting April 30, 2007 which I think is also not right. (He was on the roster at the start of the season and wasn't on the DL, if I recall correctly)
  14. Part 1: YES or NO 1) Curtis Granderson leads the club in HRs? No 2) Jenrry Mejia leads in saves? Yes Will be on the team's ML roster (or DL) the entire season? 3) Dillon Gee Yes 4) Bartolo Colon Yes 5) Travis d'Arnaud Yes 6) Anthony Recker No 7) Daniel Murphy Yes 8) Ruben Tejada No 9) Jonathon Niese Yes 10) Terry Collins Yes Part 2: OVER/UNDER 11) Lucas Duda -- 29.5 HRs Over 12) Michael Cuddyer -- 119.5 Starts Over 13) Jenrry Mejia -- 19.5 Saves Over 14) Wilmer Flores -- 449.5 PAs Over 15) Bartolo Colon -- 17.5 Starts Over 16) David Wright -- 21.5 HRs Over 17) Kirk Nieuwenhuis -- 199.5 PAs Under 18) Noah Syndergaard -- 19.5 ML Starts Under 19) Steven Matz -- 9.5 ML Starts Under 20) Brandon Nimmo - 49.5 ML PAs Over EITHER/OR 21) More PAs w/2015 NYM: Murphy or Herrera? 15. Greg never played as a defensive player in the major leagues. (He did get one hit, though). What can you tell me about Mickey Weston?
  16. As reported by Jared Diamond of Wall Street Journal. https://twitter.com/jareddiamond/status/577470516900073472
  17. "Joint Statement of the New York Mets and Leigh Castergine" The parties have decided to resolve this matter, which has brought more attention to the workplace environment for women in sports and will result in the organization being more attentive to the important issues raised by women in sports. Additionally, we are both committed to the further development and encouragement of female executives in our industry. Both sides have agreed to have no further comments.
  18. One would think it have to be something egregious/felonious and non-baseball related I don't see any baseball scenarios in which Terry doesn't finish the season as manager. Afterwards, it breaks down pretty simply: Team gets worse/doesn't improve: They just don't renew his contract. Team gets only slightly better: ?? Team gets significantly better/makes playoffs: Terry gets new contract if he wants.
  19. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/55550/on-the-hot-seat-terry-collins-bud-black Excluding Connie Mack (who owned his team), there have been only five mangers who have managed a team to five consecutive losing seasons. This year will be Terry's fifth. (Same situation in San Diego for Bud Black). (I do disagree with Schoenfield's claim that Collins' "job will be in jeopardy" if the team gets off to a slow start. He's not getting fired mid-season. but I doubt he returns without a winning record).
  20. Reads as an AP or Reuters story. Content of the story has nothing to do with one's feelings about the website on which it was linked to.
  21. As a business/PR move, this makes good sense for him. I suppose there are some (plenty?) people who want the apology. Perhaps it helps his post-baseball earnings capacity. I read an article about Jason Giambi's retirement today that made the point that people who were felt to be unrepentant assholes (Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds) are disconnected from baseball, while those who have said they're sorry have moved on (eg. McGwire, Giambi) and have continued to work in the game. I really don't care. I'm not going to stop disliking him, I'm not going to stop hoping this negatively affects the MFYs, and I'd still vote for him for the Hall of Fame.
  22. My understanding is that several teams retire numbers only for players elected to the Hall of Fame primarily for their accomplishments with that team. I see no good reason to depart from that standard. Piazza gets his number retired if (when) he gets into the HOF. Keith, Kranepool, Carter - they've all been elected to the Mets Hall of Fame. Particularly as that is now a great feature of Citi Field, they're getting an appropriate honor. I would put uniform number 8 back into circulation. I would also put 24 into circulation as well.
  23. Now, the turnaround is almost complete. Wow. I'm kind of at a loss for words on this staggering understatement

I think the only NYC subway tunnel that is "seated" in the water is the 63rd Street tunnel that carries the F train and, eventually the LIRR to Grand Central.
