  1. Well, it’s make or break time for Ronny Mauricio now. He’s the only shortstop on the roster, so look like a long extended chance to prove himself.
  2. Also Mark Vientos is possibly the slowest man I have ever seen play for the Mets. John Olerud carrying a refrigerator is faster.
  3. Stearns tried, Buxton wouldn’t waive the no-trade clause
  4. Senga is starting Saturday against the Rockies.
  5. I also find the personal animosity towards Stearns very odd.
  6. Plus Edward Cabrera. He’d start for any MLB team and there’s a reason the Cubs traded their no. 1 prospect to get him this offseason. The losses to the Dodgers and Cubs are a lot less troubling because they’re good teams (still not an excuse for losing all 6.) The upcoming homestand against Minnesota, Colorado, and Washington — 3 teams that entered this season not even trying to make the playoffs? Mets are going to need 6-7 wins minimum.
  7. Obviously there are bigger issues right now but we can’t let this game go by without observing that a team won in extra innings without any Hits. Walks, HBP, or runners reaching on errors or dropped third strikes. I’ll never forgive Rob Manfred for perverting baseball like this.
  8. So they call up Senger but neither he nor Torrens are in the lineup. Curious.
  9. He’s had the Achilles problem for a while but the hand injury occured Tuesday while batting against Yamamoto.
  10. As a point of reference: the 2022 Phillies fired Joe Girardi on June 3 with a 22-29 record. They went 65-46 the rest of the way, capturing the final wild card spot.
  11. Your lineup today, and I promise there aren’t typos here: Benge RF Bichette 3B Lindor SS Robert CF Alvarez C Melendez DH Semien 2B Baty 1B Taylor LF
  12. True, although more Baty in the lineup right now may be a bad thing.
  13. No, he hasn’t. If/when Polanco goes on the IL, they should call Mauricio back up and give both Lindor and Semien some days off.
  14. Bad in-game decision-making cost the Mets a couple games this year. That’s squarely on Mendoza, but it also was only a couple games. Bad fielding/mental errors suggests a lack of preparation, which is at least partly on Mendoza. But the complete inability to hit? I have a harder time putting that squarely on Mendoza.
  15. I also like Skip Schumacher as a candidate but he is currently managing the Rangers, so that might result in a tampering charge. JD Martinez seems like an obviously choice and checks a lot of boxes (including Spanish fluency).
  16. Yes of course, although using either of those players means burning them plus an outfielder to come in on defense.
  17. Ronnie and Joe Buck have forgotten that Ohtani has only about 10 starts as a Dodger. It’s still a good stat that this was his first leadoff walk but he hasn’t been a starting pitcher for 3 years or something
  18. Pham doesn’t look ready to be playing in major league games.
  19. 1300. MJ Melendez
  20. What’s your thought re: potential changes to be made? -More plate appearances for…Torrens? Tyrone Taylor? -Call up Morabito, Clifford, or Ewing? -See if JD Martinez or some other guy on the scrap heap wants to play? -Wait it out because Lindor and Bichette are going to figure it out?
  21. I was never a huge Buck fan, but it take less than 2 innings to realize just how much better Joe Buck is than Joe Davis.
  22. New this year. Particularly stunning in that they don’t need the money.
  23. I’m not exactly sure the Mets’ TV booth has openings at the moment. That said, Cliff Floyd has done some very good work for MLB Network and if SNY could hire him away I’d be quite happy with that. Curtis Granderson also did some work for TBS which I haven’t seen much of but I can easily imagine him on a Mets broadcast too.
  24. He was. Gerber, Garcia, and Lovelady are not on the active roster. Williams is (but hasn’t pitched in 8 days), as is Austin Warren.
