  1. Peter Moylan, 40 (got a late start), has performed his last bris. Or thrown his last inning of relief. The longtime Brave and such has announced he's done with majors and will turn his attention toward making the Australian Olympic team.
  2. Will clinch Met of the Decade honors. Pretty much already has.
  3. Brandon Nimmo dealing with bad reaction to chicken he didn't thoroughly cook. Only the Mets, huh? Or anybody, actually.
  4. Todd Frazier has an oblique strain. Will get a cortisone shot. No timetable for return, increasing the chances that when he does recover, "it will be like adding a Todd Frazier at the trade deadline."
  5. Long-ago Marlin nemesis (or Met nemesis as a Marlin) Hanley Ramirez has resurfaced a Wahoo Tribalist on a minor league deal.
  6. DeGrom gives up one first-inning run, Mets hardly score, Jake gets saddled with the loss. Hmmm...
  7. Karma wishes nobody other than Chase Utley an injury.
  8. Diagnosis is left knee capsule sprain. Opening Day probably Jedless. Good news is if Lowrie's out long enough, getting him back will be like "adding a Jed Lowrie" at the deadline. Or "with the Lowrie insurance money added to that from Wright and Cespedes, the Mets could be in position to significantly add to payroll in 2020..."
  9. The junior Senator from New York wants nothing do with the junior ballclub from New York in 1967 (around the 1:35 mark). rpvk8aO9g34
  10. Both sites have been longtime inspirations as well as resources. Congratulations to both!!
  11. Chase Bradford, Phil Evans and Dom Smith applaud Pete Alonso. Chasen Bradford, Phillip Evans and Dominic Smith back Peter Alonso.
  12. Thread title could also apply to Detroit's signing of Josh Harrison, an apple of the Mets' offseason eye last year.
  13. Tyler Clippard's ongoing journey has led him to Cleveland.
  14. White Sox brought in Manny's brother-in-law and his workout buddy. I guess they can always text.
  15. Newk started the fifth-to-last and second-to-last games of the 1951 season, winning complete games in both of them, throwing a shutout in the latter. In the finale, he was brought in to relieve in the eighth on no days' rest and pitched 5.1 scoreless innings; Dodgers won in 14 to tie the Giants. Then, in deciding Game Three of the pennant playoff, he carried a 4-1 lead into the ninth before Dressen pulled him with one out, two on, one run in and Thomson due up. Four appearances over eight games, three of them starts, 32 innings in all, keeping the Dodgers alive as long as he could in perhaps the most searing duel baseball gas ever known. Take what Johan did the final week of 2008 and at least double it.
  16. Don Newcombe, Brooklyn pitching ace, 92. A fixture at Dodger Stadium well beyond his years starring at Ebbets Field.
  17. This will also be the last season at the helm of the Giants for three-time world champion manager (and 1982 Mets catcher) Bruce Bochy, who has announced he will retire at the end of 2019.

    #LGM (TM)

#LGM has been gaining traction on social media since the 2015 playoffs, when the Mets lost in the World Series to the Kansas City Royals. It's shorthand for a catch phrase that was only created during the Mets' second — and last — championship season in 1986 as a song to help drive the team and its fans to victory. I remember us all sitting mute from 1962 to 1985, groping for some pithy expression with which to collectively urge our team forward. Thank goodness somebody came along during the franchise's twenty-fifth season to suddenly craft the musical answer to our prayers from which we could derive a handy phrase.
  19. Multiple reports have Mets signing Adeiny Hechavarria as backup infielder guy. Legit SS behind Amed.
  20. Free-swinging Alcides Escobar, who was just asking for it when Noah Syndergaard stood sixty feet, six inches away and moved him off the plate to start off the most recent postseason Mets victory, has signed with the Orioles. Attack the first pitch there, pest.
  21. Former Joe Pignatano successor several times removed Ricky Bones moves from coaching relievers in Queens to tutoring all the pitchers for the St. Lucie Mets this season.
  22. Bosox seeking that new sound (from December): http://www.insideradio.com/free/tim-neverett-opts-to-exit-weei-fm-red-sox-broadcast/article_cb7e5488-fe59-11e8-ae3c-5f844b008ce7.htmlhttp://www.insideradio.com/free/tim-neverett-opts-to-exit-weei-fm-red-sox-broadcast/article_cb7e5488-fe59-11e8-ae3c-5f844b008ce7.html Boston Red Sox radio play-by-play announcer Tim Neverett has decided not to return to the broadcast booth. Neverett opted not to pursue a new contract with Entercom sports WEEI-FM Boston (93.7) amid reports that the station wanted game broadcasts to sound more like a talk show. “I chose to let my contract expire rather than go back and work for them,” Neverett tells The Boston Globe. He said the station told him to start looking for another job in June, but he had hoped the situation would improve. He told the newspaper that the Red Sox wanted him to return, but he ultimately declined. “The Red Sox were very supportive of me during a very difficult year,” Neverett continues. That included rumors of changes within the radio broadcast booth, including dropping traditional coverage of Sox games in favor of a talk radio approach, the Globe reports. These rumors and talk of upheaval came as the Red Sox were on their way to winning their ninth World Series Championship. Neverett said the season took a toll on him. “When you can say that after you get to call a World Series victory, then you know it was pretty disappointing on how it all went down,” he adds.
  23. Josh indicates on Twitter that the Padres radio hosting is still being ironed out and that much of the Red Sox action will be west of the Mississippi. Given that Josh chartered a plane so he could do Chargers-Ravens in the afternoon and Game Five of the World Series that same Sunday night in 2015, I'm confident he can pull off all logistical necessities.
  24. Josh Lewin lands on his feet, aurally speaking, joining the Red Sox radio crew for approximately a third of all broadcasts this season. Boston decided to upend its traditional setup and make its PBP more chatty (or some such nonsense). Lewin is part of a carousel of announcers who will work with or around Joe Castiglione, Chris Berman and Sean McDonough among them. Ex-Met voice Dave O'Brien, who has nestled at NESN, will spend some time on the radio side as well. May this work better for the Red Sox (and Josh) than the college of coaches worked for the Cubs.
  25. Jack Reinheimer has cleared waivers, allowing the Orioles to assign him to Norfolk, where will stand next to the spirit of David Wright.
