Gonna be interesting to see if someone just can't pass up the so-called "talent" this far down the draft and just deal with the headaches. [crossout]i assume someone takes the flyer and waits to see before even offering him a contract - the player isn't always guilty - look at how La'el Collins got completely fucked over because of rumors he involved in a murder a few days before the draft - he was never charged and as far as some quick googling says it looks like everyone seems to think he was never even really a "suspect" just a person the police wanted to talk to as he'd dated the dead person.[/crossout] OE - googled it and he pled guilty (i had not seen the full story pre-draft), i'm guessing nobody takes him and he quietly signs with someone when the focus isnt on the draft
  2. Absolutely loved it. and while Vic debate its place at the top of the Superhero movie list (clearly the #1 DC film) I would go even further - is this the best movie with a female lead since... ever?

Hopefully Conforto doesn't think like me. the wrong message to Conforto ("we think you still can't hit lefties even though you have a .378 OBP against them this year") is its own separate issue. my issue is that there were far inferior hitters that you cold have pinch hit for earlier in the inning.

  5. Luis Castillo is one of those guys who just brings to mind one play and one play only. I'll spare you all the YouTube clip of f****** Arod popping it up to him.
  6. get Harvey out of there NOW please
  7. you are all welcome. (every time i put Duda and Conforto in my daily fantasy lineups they hit homeruns, this is obviously not a coincidence)

  9. Vic Sage wrote: Eventually, they'll bring up Rosario (mid-June?) and he'll lead off, with Conforto batting 3rd. so they better start getting Confy comfy there. or he can hit 2nd, where he has hit before and where the studies show your best hitter belongs anyway?
  10. the only sandwich fries belong on is a falafel in a pita!

Walking thevpiycher with a 5 run lead is a pretty unforgivable sin/sign you have no idea where the ball is going Sending Harvey to Las Vegas to work on his problems is like sending someone to Colombia for coke rehab. Bad ass. unfortunately, we are stuck in Vegas. you want to send him to AA? i dont think he belongs here right now and the fact that our AAA-Affiliate is in a city known for vices isnt a reason to keep him in NY.

  13. I find this surprising, wouldn't have thought he was here that long.
  14. Whack! and off a lefty reliever brought in to face him! that is really what we need to see from Conforto!
  15. the walks are what is killing me with Harvey, is he nibbling or just missing?
  16. Trammell vs Jeter is a tough argument - Jeter was a slightly better hitter who managed 33% more plate appearances and stayed healthy into his late 30's. He was a huge defensive liability. Trammell was a decent if not good fielder, but he played 146 games in his age 32 season and never more than 112 in the 6 more years of his career. Jeter probably had the better peak too - and while Trammell hit well in the only 3 playoff series his team bothered making, Jeter has a full season's worth of post-season ABs thanks to expanded playoffs and being on a good team - he made the most of those appearances though. I'd give the slight edge to Jeter - but Trammell is a good comp. an even better comp for Jeter - though this guy i'd put slightly ahead of him - is Barry Larkin.

Sure, that's part of it - although four days ago the Mets were a .500 team on a winning streak (so don't start your fire sale quite yet) And part of the Judge-mania was from earlier when his HR-rate was higher than it is now, he hadn't HR'd in 11 days prior to this afternoon. But also there's an element of Yanqui-stroking to this all -- is he the next Jeter?!!?!?!! -- combined with the ridiculous notion of 'projecting' season HR totals two weeks into the season ... he's on pace to hit 126, do ya think he'll do it !?!?!?!! And then there's the fascination these highlight geeks have with their new video game toys of "exit velocity" and distance guesstimates, as if those HRs are worth more than a regular one. Certainly there is always going to be the media sucking some good old yankee cock. the only way to get rid of that is to win a few world series while the Yankees suck then it'll be "the Mets are so great and the Yankees suck and are threatening to move to New Jersey again" every homerun counts the same, but i'm pretty sure i've read that average distance is somewhat predictive of future homerun rate - which makes intuitive sense as the guy hitting it 380 feet routinely is clearing more fences in more parks and in more weather conditions than the guy hitting it 340. not a defense of all the love for Judge as the sample size is too small even if he is smashing them, but i dont think those things you mention are just "video game toys"

But one is the toast of baseball with talk about challenging records while the other is going virtually unmentioned ... Just sayin' One plays for a team that is hurdling towards being sellers at the deadline and the other plays for a team with the best run differential in baseball. it also doesn't help that the Mets have so many other stories - injuries, suspensions - to write and the papers will almost always choose to go negative when given the choice.

  20. i like the move - what else were you going to do? he has hte potential to fill in capably with all the injuries - unlike Adam Wilk!
  21. I get why you need anonymous sources when you are reporting on a chemical spill - maybe we ought to re-evaluate their use in gossip pieces however.

  23. I'm all for moving Harvey, but for a team that claims to be contending how do you tell the fans "we're going to take a loss today and send Adam Wilk out there"? i would have suspended him the 4 games between starts - the team loses nothing and he loses salary and the embarrassment, if any, of getting suspended.
  24. yup, the politics too. they just don't get it - people don't tune into sports for politics!
