  2. Now that we have a Mets owner with a relationship to Trump, do you think everyone stops blaming the Wilpons for everything?
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: Quick question: why are we AIMING at guys who are minor league relievers? Because our requests for Evan Longoria and Mookie Betts were turned down? Admit it, you want Longoria here just for the wives thread.
  4. don't underrate Wilmer - his defense passes muster at 3B (it didnt at SS) and he mashed lefties, he needs a platoon partner!
  5. I like the road start to get his feet wet. Will he lead off right away, or have to prove his way up the order like the Mets did with Wright his rookie year? Alderson also said Smith could be called up soon. It would be a crowded team with 9 guys who either need to play every day (Cespedes, Conforto, Rosario, and hopefully soon Smith) or guys who likely feel entitled to (Walker, Cabrera, Bruce, Granderson, Reyes) in the 7 non-catcher spots. You probably break the log jam by telling the last 5 that they'll all need to share - I would go so far as to fire Terry if he decides not to play the youngsters almost every day.
  6. Flexen's bunt skills need work.
  7. i think the 2 things i'll remember most about Duda are “WeFollowLucasDuda” and Duda vs Davis. Curtis won't let him leave! http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2724239-curtis-granderson-hangs-onto-lucas-duda-after-duda-is-traded
  8. maybe this is one of those deals where the Mets get the prospect and bring back Duda in November?
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, I don't like the erase-the-guy-forever rule. Guys with 50% or more should return to the ballot the next year, guys with 30-49.9% should return in two, etc. So maybe five years later, voters would get a new chance to look at Lofton, or my favorite one-and-done snub, Lou Whitaker. not counting guys who were banned from baseball or still have eligibility I think the two biggest snubs are Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammel. Kenny Lofton and Jim Edmonds also deserved a lot more consideration than they were given.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Frickin' DeJong. Friggin Terry. Wheeler should not have been back out for the 6th inning after walk-fest showed he couldn't find the plate
  11. Three straight walks with 2 outs, the last one on 4 pitches, that's where I'm willing to pull a starter out of the game early.

  14. New article up at 538 (which does cool stuff when elections aren't going on with like .01% of the server traffic they got in November) takes a look at All-star starters - who got hte starts they didnt deserv and who got screwed out of starts when they were the best player. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-all-time-leaders-in-undeserved-all-star-appearances/ Guess who is #1? Meanwhile, the anti-Ripken is longtime Cardinals and Mets first baseman Keith Hernandez, who only started a single All-Star Game (1986) despite leading National League first basemen in WAR eight times. Four of those seasons, the slick-fielding Hernandez was thwarted by Steve Garvey, who — not coincidentally — is tied for third on the “over-selected” list above. He also lost out to Jack Clark, Al Oliver and even Pete Rose, who moved to first base (and was one of the league’s worst fielders there) late in his career. Keith’s list of grievances Seasons where Keith Hernandez did not start the All-Star Game despite having the most WAR at his position [snipped] renew the HOF debate!
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: Obviously the Nats brass thought they saw something that made them think that starting late was better than starting - then stopping - then starting again. Just as obviously they blew the call but it's not like that goof helped them in any way and no one wants two rain-outs (given the Wed game canceled w/the Mets) and two days off just before the ASB when you're going to have to make up those games late in the season anyway. that "something" they saw was their crap bullpen - they were scared of losing their starter after 4 or 5 to rain
  16. The Nationals tonight started in a "rain delay" despite total dryness. they had a 2+ hour window until real rain came and its the kind you could play through. why not just call the game ahead of time if you dont want to play? I think given the state of modern radar, MLB should have a meteorologist who decides if games start or not and then also consults remotely with umpires (much like instant replay) on when to resume or cancel them once a delay in-game happens. its time to take the decision out of teams' hands.
  17. are you playing for NEXT year or 3-4 years from now? with Syndergaard, deGrom, Matz, Wheeler, Lugo i just can't see blowing the whole thing up. trade away anyone who is a free agent that you dont plan to sign and/or older players but not the core. you may never assemble a staff like that again. take the chance that they stay healthy next year. Syndergaard deGRom Conforto are untouchable. Matz Wheeler Rosario Cespedes shouldnt be going anywhere either. Granderson, Walker, Cabrera, Reyes should be available to anyone who puts a decent offer out there. Bruce takes a slightly better offer and Duda a "fair value" one.
  18. Angel Hernandez is suing MLB claiming racial discrimination is the reason he hasn't been promoted. No, jackass, you havent been promoted because YOU FUCKING SUCK and you deserve to be fired and replaced by a more competent umpire.
  19. Granderson on fire lately - did one of you guys start a "Curtis Sucks" thread again and make him mad?
  20. I think the thought is more that he plays "well" enough to continue selling jerseys and boosting attendance well into next spring.
  21. Tomorrow is DOLLAR NIGHT - $1 Tickets, $1 Beer, Tim Tebow, and a capacity crowd of drunken Florida Gators fans!
  22. Anyone wanna guess who homered today for St Lucie? Well, nobody would be posting about it if it was anyone else. As for the promotion, yeah its more cash grabbing. Tebow doesn't need to play well to get promoted, he needs to avoid being a complete and utter joke. I suspect by the end of the year the Mets' goal will be to have sold jerseys at every level.
  23. Trea Turner stole 2nd and 3rd. then he stole 2nd and 3rd again. we're in the 4th inning. anyone know the record offhand?
  24. Edgy MD wrote: Worth noting that a week from today is ASDRUBAL CABRERA BOBBLEHEAD DAY. Yeah I saw them advertise that and Sandy probably told him "dude - shut up, you need to stay here another week"
  25. You are joking right? The Daily News actually published that letter?
