  1. If these are the choices, I want Girardi. I don't want a first time manager or a puppet for the player agent running the show, who I already don't like.
  2. now that there are 2 wild cards that play a play-in game, each individual wild card team has halved its chances because they need to win an extra "round" (game). if the post season is a crap shoot you are still twice as likely to win the WS by winning your division. so maybe we should try to build a division winner.
  3. In guessing McEwing, because he will be the cheapest.

  5. =G-Fafif post_id=23168 time=1569636581 user_id=55] Not asking Lugo to give up two runs in the ninth so Alonso gets another crack at 53.
  6. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Gotta keep this Wheeler guy. Wheeler is racking up the dollar signs tonight! I would definitely offer him the 1 year thing and hope he takes it. Remind his agent of all the guys who got fucked by that rule and them work it out
  7. Brewers up 7-1. See you in March, folks
  8. I voted Wright, Beltran, Alfonzo, Hernandez I'm sure some of the other 80s guys deserve it, but I dont know them and I don't care. Reyes beat a woman, Wright didn't. If the Mets felt that was a good reason not to honor Reyes, I respect that. If on the other hand they were just wary of the #hashtag attacks, that is a bad reason.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Just because there are no rules doesn't mean there shouldn't be standards. Not concrete ones maybe, but some kind of threshold which keeps from giving into ceremony whims and/or fan demands that more numbers be retired for the purpose of having more retired numbers. [speculation] As for why Kooz and not Wright: I suspect they're going chronologically during this new era of past player relationship mending meaning Kooz is perhaps just the first step on the way to Tug who will lead them into the Keith/Gary/Dwight/Darryl era (and can they really honor all them while ignoring Ronnie?!?). The ceremony du annum then leads to Franco & Fonzie, then Beltran (Ceetar will lead the charge!!) on the way to Wright & Reyes. And by then deGrom will be retired ... Translation: Wilpon figures he has YEARS, even DECADES to squeeze some dollars and attendance out of the "David Wright crowd" for a day. the median age middle-class "David Wright Fan" has likely not even reached that 'sweet spot' between college and marriage where expendable income hits its peak yet. meanwhile, the time to exploit "Koosman Fans" wallets is running out.

  11. Of course the shitpen gives it right back. It would be totally unfitting for the relievers NOT to be responsible for the endinh of this season.
  12. was not expecting the Marlins to put the final nail in the Mets coffin
  13. =ashie62 post_id=22542 time=1569169918 user_id=90] The Atlanta series, did, us , in
  14. Over the course of a full season the Brewers wouldnt even contend without Yelich, but this is baseball not the NBA, they dont become automatic losers when their best player is sidelined, unfortunately for us
  15. if the bullpen somehow blows it now i'm done for the year.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: If it's strategically valid to walk Alonso there, it's strategically valid for him to take second base uncontested. its also valid to throw a pitch behind Clemens head. just saying.
  17. Alonso intentionally walked in a 6-0 game. a conspiracy by Yankee fans to save Judge's record i'm sure.
  18. =ashie62 post_id=22364 time=1568974407 user_id=90] Pretty much on Alonso watch from here in. LGM
  19. the Phillies loss today was huge, bringing them even with us in the loss column. we control our destiny with regard to one more team now. Cubs down 3-1 right now and it feels like a "must lose" for us!
  20. dumping Cano is the bigger deal. Lowrie makes a perfect backup utility infielder
  21. exactly, i'm not even calling for short rest here - i dont think anyone in rotation right now is so incompetent as to warrant the additional risk that poses - just pitching your best pitcher on ordinary rest as often as you can!
  22. you need to get there first. it would be different if you were guaranteed to be one of the wildcards then sure you save him for that game
  23. =Gwreck post_id=22201 time=1568782798 user_id=56] They shouldn't sign Rendon because of playing time concerns for McNeil??? Nope. McNeil can play 4 positions (and I bet he could play 1B too. Maybe even short also). He'll be an everyday player without a problem. His flexibility is an asset. If there's one thing that bring a Mets fan has taught me, it's that the team always has injuries somewhere. Do I think there's a snowball's chance in hell that Cano plays 130 games next year? Nope. 120? Doubt it. 100? Wouldn't bet on it. Conforto and Nimmo have had their injuries woes too. Not to mention Lowrie. You sign Rendon because he's the best talent available and you need offense. If you have too many healthy players, great. Of course I don't think they WILL do it. As for trading Syndergaard? That's an awful idea. What would you plausibly in return that would improve the team?

  25. Ramos with the gun down!
