Manfred did the most he could under the rules to punish the Astros as a team imo. not his fault the fines are limited, those are still his bosses at the end of the day and while many of them will grumble that Crane wasn't punished enough they wont vote to increase the max penalty because one day THEIR coaches and players will cheat.

Wow. Ahead of anything from the commissioner. Eh. Cora's 1 year ban at a minimum was a foregone conclusion. I'm sure the Red Sox owner was told this "off the record" already. They're just getting a head start on the managerial search this way AND they get to say "hey look we fired him before the commish finished investigating us!! we're so squeeekyyy cleeeeeean"

Why would people stop talking about it? the precedent now is that players won't be punished so every player who doesnt like a coach/front-office is incentivized to rat out his former teams and watch them get punished for lack of oversight

I would have been fine with even more punishments, but this is fine. MLB flat out wrote a memo to the teams saying not to do exactly this and they kept doing it, they should have taken a page out of the NCAA punishment book with programs found to be flagrantly violating the rules and said "no postseason for 5 years"!
