  1. rpackrat, i'm not too lazy to look it up...but its simply not there! i've seen several discussions of people on other sites asking about it but the actual numbers are nowhere to be found.
  2. Edgy DC wrote: I have no particular jones for Furcal at all, but he's a "BAD" hitter who has been a better hitter than any fulll-time shortstop the Mets have ever had. i'd be all in favor of getting him to play SS if we had a hole there, but we don't. why would you want to take a guy with a sub 100 ops+ and change his defensive position?
  3. Snake Draft/list draft- pretty self explanatory. Auction- we'd all have to get together in a chatroom at once and find a moderator to run the auction. ths would probably be alot of fun but also alot of work because unlike the snake draft you cant fill out a list to draft if you arent there and you cant leave early.
  4. once we settle the roto/points/h2h debate we'll pick categories, there us a logical order to this
  5. Diamond Dad wrote: I'd go for no free agent acquisitions at all, or a limited FAB. We can draft a 40-man roster and make trades if we have injuries. Or perhaps allow free agent draft half way through the year. Having to keep up daily with free agent availability is a pain. thats why i would suggest a once a week thing, not being able to add guys at all gets boring for many people
  6. yahoo's free leagues will force us to use their position requirements whether we like it or not. unfortunately they sometimes put guys at positions they have never played out of speculation of their role in the coming season. theres nothing i can do about it and it has been one of my outstanding gripes with yahoo the last few years.
  7. well thats the point D-Dad...99% of leagues will regulate the number of starters you have, the two ways of doing it are a minimum number of innings or a minimum number of starters in the lineup. also this raises the question- daily transactions or set your lineup once a week? i've always favored setting your lineup once a week because otherwise someone can "cycle" through a new starting pitcher in 2 of their slots every day and accumulate massive strikeouts and wins just by doing that and it takes no skill. ]The fewer roster slots, the more that skill is rewarded over luck, and the more that active players are favored over inactive ones. i disagree, i think anyone can take beltran or floyd and get lucky, the skill comes with larger rosters and identifying the breakout players like Brian Roberts was last year
  8. now that we have a subforum there is definetaly no need for it to take place elsewhere....i didnt realize Edgy hated it... I for one am a firm believer that it wasn't Ripken or McGwire/Sosa that won back the fans after the strike, it was the rise of fantasy baseball on the internet.
  9. H2H is great in Football...this isn't football, but lets give everyone he choice since they may not feel as we do.
  10. an interesting article with some interesting points, but my response would be this: even if you want a player, he is only worth $1 more than the next highest bid, and i find it hard to believe that anyone else made Ryan a 4 year commitment, much less a 5 year one at that kind of money.
  11. Seawolf- i suppose that depends on where you want movement to come from, i'd prefer it came from trading depth to fill your needs rather than picking guys up.
  12. i must have not explained "points league" in a deragatory enough manner as someone has voted for it...
  13. Elster88 wrote: 5 DL spots = too many. 2 max. until you lose 5 guys in the same week (i've been there). i just hate the idea of having to drop players as a result of guys going on the DL.
  14. alot of leagues will turn the 2nd catcher into a 2nd utility man. we have 19 guys interested i have to assume 20... i look at benches as just that- bench players- prospects, platoon guys, etc. if mike cameron, for example, is on someone's bench i consider the league to be too shallow. with 20 teams is we had 23 starters each thats 460 players which is 15.3 per MLB team (each teams' starting 8, their 5 man rotation, and their closer would be 14) so maybe thats a few too many. at the same time i think only 16 starters per team (320 MLB players) isn't enough (10.6 per team.)
  15. thankfully. Furcal is a terrible fit for this team. he is a BAD hitter who is worth having (perhaps) as a gold-glove SS. as a guy learning a position at 2B he's a liability. I'd rather keep Matsucki
  16. i dont want to turn this into a poll yet because theres plenty to discuss, these are a few of the more standard options: A) C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3xOF, UT, 2xSP, 2xRP, 3xP. 16 starters. 2xC, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 5xOF, CI, MI, UT, 9xP. 23 starters. theres also the matter of bench size and how many starting pitchers you must play (or a minimum innings requirement.) DL-size should probably be set to the yahoo maximum of 5, no reason to penalize people for their guys getting hurt. comments?
  17. 25 should be vacated for you shortly.
  18. maybe they'll repost it for 50 it would have to go down to $25 or so before i buy it just to wear it once and say it belonged to DS.
  19. didn't he come off the DL in august and have a final 2 months like Seo did this year?
  20. Bobby Bonilla, Mel Rojas, Kenny Rogers, Rickey Henders... oh, wrong thread.
  21. allow them or not? saying yes eliminates many potential issues (what if guys get dealt to them midyear or away from them midyear, how will we enforce the rule) saying no keeps the scum of the earth out of our league. i vote yes since i probably won't take them anyway, let them clog up someone else's roster and leave more non-yankees for me.
  22. because i already have a $300 league and a $100 league and i'm a poor grad student next question...
  23. i've done 20 teams before and yes, the spread gets crazy. also in a 10 team league it is a common strategy to "dump" a category (usually either saves or steals) and then finish well in all the others. this would be very impractical with 20 teams as you have to assume you won't be able to finish at the top of 6 or 7 categories and therefore that "1" in steals or saves would kill you.
  24. before i start the draft format poll, i'd like to make sure i have all our choices... 1.) snake draft 2.) auction (probably not feasible, but still a choice) 3.) list draft (everyone makes a list and submits it to yahoo which auto-drafts for us) am i missing any?
  25. if none of the 3 systems gets a Majority we'll do a runoff between the top 2, so feel free to vote for what you really want even if you think it will lose. 1. Roto league- categories to be decide later, in a 5x5 roto league each team is ranked 10 pts down to 1 point (in a 10 team league) in each category. example: in a 10 team league i have the 3rd most steals, thats worth 8 points. i have the 2nd least strikeouts, thats 2 points. if those were the only 2 categories i'd have 10 points total. 2. Points league- each statistic that we choose to use has a point value. example: you get 1 point for every single you hit, inning you pitch, or batter you strikeout, 2 points for every double, RBI, or run scored, you can also have negative points (for caught stealings, errors, runs allowed, etc.) 3. Head to Head League- you have an opponent each week against whom you will be judged in each of the 10 roto-categories. you will have a win-loss record for each week which is added to your season w-l total.
